For Paws Dog Training For Paws offers Hoopers, Agility, Scentwork, Trailing & Parkour lessons on a 121 or group basis. We can clean them out as well if needed.

For Paws provides dog training, specialising in focus work/brain games, scentwork, goopers and trailing. if you want to work on getting your dogs focus and being the most exciting thing to your dog ................ then come and see us and we'll work with you on achieving that

We also provide Small pet services so we'll visit your smaller pets, let them out, have cuddle time with them and feed t

hem. We'll also be hosting courses with guest trainers such as Scentwork, Ttouch, Canine First Aid and many others

What did you get up to with your dogs last week?

Some of the For Paws Hoopers members had a competition this wkend - it was first time competing at hoopers for some.of them.- they did very well - we're very proud of them, (there's a couple of dogs missing from the picture but they also gained rosettes)

A great scentwork session with the Friday morning group

Today we looked at distractions using a banana, an empty sweet packet that had had unwrapped sweets in, and ....................... horse p**p!

Some of the dogs love banana but gave it no more interest than any of the other articles that were out & they weren't thrown by the empty sweet bag either
They still found the correct scent article as well

The scent being hidden on the horse p**p meant most the handlers were convinced the dogs would eat the horse p**p, (there were some horse p**p eaters in the group), and not indicate

Trust your dog

Not one tried to eat the horse p**p, all the dogs knew they had a job to do and did it very well and gave a lovely clear indications

Meet Cuilan Cuilan does Scentwork with For Paws A few months ago, Cuilan was finding scentwork a bit hard, he was giving a few false indications It was suggested by another trainer that Cuilan didn't really know what he was doing & would just find the scent by accident Having known Cullan since he was a pup, I knew how much Cuilan likes to please and how much he needs to know he's doing the 'right thing' We reduced the length of his indication so he got his rewards quicker, changed to working him on lead so that connection is always there between him & his human Mum and when he had to give indications on different finds in one search, we slowly built up those multiple hides and gave Cuilan a 'reset' cue in between each indication All this, along with homework, and most of all, making sure that everything remained relaxed & fun for Cuilan, has led to a huge improvement His Mum has learnt to handle him on a longer lead, to stay calm & encouraging and helped boost his confidence Cuilan is happy to give multiple find indications in one search, has developed a lovely calm methodical way of searching, is giving less false indications & is happily searching without getting stressed Here's a quick video from the wkend, with some lovely indications The first find is a hard one as it's right at the beginning of the search area. Cuilan used to rush along, missing areas as he was so eager to get things right Now look at how steady & thorough he was Isn't he a handsome lad, but most importantly, he's a happy handsome lad 💙
