Astrid is showing that she's pregnant, with pups moving a little (easier to see on her white side). Caspian is never far from her now. It will still probably be 4 weeks before we get to meet their pups, but it's great to see the confirmation of pregnancy. 💜
This video is of ARBA Judge Robert Spitzer judging a small class of Broken American Cavies. As always, he is a wealth of good information!
Of special interest to us is that both Cheshire and Chamomile are in this class! We are thrilled to share that Cheshire is black and white, so he is showable! (You can hear the comments on him in the video.) He is available, and preference is given to a showmanship and/or show home, since he has such a good type and is such a sweet little guy. 💜
ARBA Judging Youth Cavies - 10-09-21 - Phoenix, AZ
Part 1:
What color is this cavy? Lilac can be darker or lighter... but is this one Lilac or something else? ARBA Judge Robert Spitzer takes the youth's cavy outside to see it in daylight to make sure, then instructs us about it. In this 2-part video, Judge Spitzer also covers how to bring out the color points on Himalayan cavies, and more.
Even if you're not going to show cavies in ARBA, this information may help when you show cavies in 4-H and FFA. 😉

Presentation of Open Class Best In Show, 10/09/21! We raise short-haired cavies, but look at the display of gorgeous long-haired cavies!!! 😍
Curious Cutie
This little pup has so much personality! It notices everything! It looks up at us when we're refilling food, water, etc. In this short video, it notices something odd - the water bottle - and goes to explore. It's such a curious little one! 😊
First Look at Day-Old Guinea Pigs
Chamomile had her pups last night! There are three healthy, beautiful pups from Chamomile to play with Mariposa's pup, Otter! Mariposa and Otter both helped Chamomile clean off the pups! It was adorable to watch! Today, all 4 pups have been nursing from either sow. Mariposa has been "stealing" pups at times... She's such an incredible Mum! They are bringing us a lot of joy tonight! 🥰
This year, we are thankful for our Moms, both 2-legged and 4-legged! For the critter Moms, who have Ginny’s critters in your homes, thank you for choosing them, and for giving them great homes (and great kids to love them)! Astrid was weaning her pups, then a call came in from an incredible young lady who had an orphaned pup. Astrid accepted the little guy right away, nursed him, and cared for him like he was her own pup. Ginny hand-fed a rabbit kit that had fallen behind his siblings in the fight for food, and Dreemurr accepted him into her litter and cared for him, even though she was a first-time Mom! There was also a litter of pups who were orphaned a few days after birth. Ginny and I hand-fed them milk replacer. We are blessed with incredible Mothers! We wish you all a blessed Mother’s Day! 💖
Ginny's new little boar enjoys eating dried split peas and veggies. He was still really skittish in this video, but has been settling in more. He will ALMOST take food from our hands. We'll get there! <3
Krystal found an orange "light saber" and is practicing her skills as a self-proclaimed Jedi Knight! Krystal looks like she's attacking an imaginary Sith. What an imagination this pig has! ;)
Sprouts / Microgreens - Alternate green feed for Cavies
Phoenix, like all cavies, loves his greens! With store stock unpredictable and a desire not to go shopping more than needed, we started sprouting seeds. When sprouts get their first leaves, they are ready to eat. Our cavies love them, and they are very nutritious! Sprouting seeds is easy - you will want a glass jar and cheesecloth to cover it or (for a small price) a lid meant to help drain water from the sprouts. We eat them in sandwiches and salads, or stir-fried in with rice and veggies. (Of course, Phoenix eats them raw, by themselves!)
Dreemurr - White Mini Satin Junior Doe - 03/13/20
Dreemurr is just trying to eat. She is not sure why someone wants to take a video of her eating. The look on her face is hilarious! She's definitely a teenager! Her fur is shaggy because she's molting, so it's hard to see her sheen. There's a show next weekend, but it doesn't make sense to take rabbits that are molting... so relax and eat, Dreemurr! We'll look at your adult coat once this molt is completed. <3
Cavies don't like hiccups!
We were laughing on the way home Friday night, so when I went to feed the cavies, I was still hiccuping. Astrid and Krystal were acting like their normal starving selves... until I hiccuped! Their reactions were so funny! They looked disturbed! 😂
Dreemurr is almost 4 months old, and has so much bounce! We joke that she looks like a Britannia Petite, especially when she poses with that "full arch" look! We're happy with the way she is progressing, and hope to show her again once her adult coat comes in.
Best in Show, Mini Satins - AZ Convention - 02/16/20
The 2020 AZ Convention was held in Phoenix, AZ at the AZ State Fairgrounds. ARBA Judge Drew Bliss placed his Best in Show (BIS) from some gorgeous Mini Satins. We learned a lot from watching and listening to Drew and the other wonderful judges at the event!
