🐈 Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) is an infectious disease that was previously fatal to cats, however the last three years have seen the development of legal treatments with excellent results. With the help of Surrey University in the UK and Sydney University in Australia, as well as the support of ISFM, data was collected from 307 cats treated with legal compounded antivirals around the world. 🌍
The study, published today in the Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery (JFMS) represents a unique collaboration between vets from 105 clinics in five countries, with the sole purpose of helping more cats with FIP. Read it here for free 👉 https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/1098612X231194460
The authors hope this study will help encourage import of legal sources of antiviral drugs in countries where they are not currently available and more sharing of information that will benefit cats. 😸
👩⚕️ Lead author Sam Taylor, ISFM Veterinary Specialist Lead, says “It is very unusual to perform a study where vets from all around the world are so keen to provide information, discuss and collaborate with the aim of learning more about a treatment. It was humbling to see the efforts made by fellow professionals for their patients and their generosity in providing us with information about their cases. I hope we can replicate this level of collaboration when studying other conditions.”
