How I began ZiggyDoo to bring the Ferris Cat Wheel into the lives of cats, and to bring happiness to cats and their humans
Back in 2012, my wonderful bengal kitten Nikita became an important part of my world (some would say the center of my world !). She has taught me everything I know about bengals and has expanded my relationship with her as a cat - for bengals are like having a cat, dog, monkey and ferret all in one beautiful body.
And thus began my adventure with cat wheels! Back then, everyone on the bengal forums was talking about cat wheels and how they were a necessity. Like so many people, I too rolled my eyes at the thought of bringing such a huge item (and investment) into my home.
Haha! Within 6-8 months Nikita quickly taught me that the wheel was an absolute necessity if we were all of us to keep our sanity! Wheels were different then - big and clunky. My first wheel was a Petwheel - their first attempt at modular version to make shipping easier. Nikita was on this thing before we could finish assembly! I was amazed and so very entertained! But the wheel was so poorly designed and the bearings were inadequate (kept seizing up and dripping grease everywhere almost every month) - so I had to redesign so much of it.
So I started researching different brands of cat wheels. We ended up trying out another 3 different brands of cat wheels. The first two were huge disappointments, either too small, or safety and quality issues etc.... But on the third one, we got our first Ferris Cat Wheel and absolutely loved it - Nikita could run like a demon and the wheel was wonderful - safe, solid and sturdy. I paid a rather huge amount to order that first wheel since had to be shipped to me from Malaysia. And I also got another Ferris Cat Wheel for Chatopia Cat Rescue in Montreal.
