GCH. Paperbirch Dbara Bit of a Maverick

This picture of Mav was given to me after the passing of my dear friend and mentor, Pat Lorenz, of Paperbirch fame. Maverick was a Billy the Kid son and the first of our dogs that helped break the brown barrier. A multiple group and specialty winner. Shown on this occasion about to be awarded 1st Award of Merit behind the impressive “Walker” at Poodle Club of America some 15 years ago. Kaz would later tell me that for the first time he was worried about losing the variety when he saw this dog own the circle. I can’t help but see my current browns in this photo, some 5 generations later.

Maverick became a valuable producer via his son, Ch. Paperbirch Call me a Rebel . Rebel would go on to produce two bi***es for me that would claim high honors at PCA with Best of Winners and Best of Variety credits to their names.

Photos stimulate memories, some wonderful and some hard. I feel privileged to have these memories entombed in this format and to have been able to share these moments with people I loved. The photo is bordered with a crate tag that decorated Pat’s crates for 30+ years.

While we take a reprieve here in the states, some wonderful owners abroad have taken the torch and have carried it with incredible success. Their stewardship of these dogs and their incredible dedication have shown both in their accomplishments in the ring and as exceptional companions. Thank you Sara and Carita for your dedication and friendship.

💛💜WESTMINSTER 2024 💜💛

The ebb and flow of the universe always seems to come back to water you when you’re thirsty for rain.

This year I had the honor to stand by a young
brown dog as he carried me on his proud young shoulders. To say that Ham always delivers cannot be understated. He commanded full attention and earned a beautiful Best of Variety under the insightful Pam Bruce followed by being shortlisted in the strongest collection of toy dogs that I can remember.

As if that wasn’t enough, I got to watch proudly as Hosaka-san claimed the big ribbon. With patience, repetition, repetition, repetition…and a pinch of nervous energy, Kaz has subtly shaped who I am. He is a master class in unwavering self-criticism and once again proves that pressure makes diamonds.

It was an honor to stand by him as he ascends the throne, this time with the homebred Sage leading the charge.

The Squeeze had a whirlwind debut making him a champion before 9 months of age!!! Beautifully presented by his talented co-owners Olivia Hodgkinson and Ethan Coye. Look for him to make select apperances as he continues to blossom.

Parfait Easy Peasy, 🍋Lemon Squeezy🍋 won ❤️Second❤️ in a beautiful American Bred class, piloted by his owner Olivia Hodgkinson.
