*Update as of 1/4/24 - 213 dogs and cats (155 dogs, and 58 cats) sick eating Purina, 57 of which have died.

Since 12/5/23 in the 'Saving Pets One Pet @ A Time' group on Facebook there have been 48 dogs and 3 cats sick eating Purina, 10 of which have died. It seems to be from all different types of Purina, with Purina Pro Plan being the most common. If you or someone you know is feeding this food, I would stop immediately! Do NOT wait until your pet gets sick or Purina issues a recall.

Purina has already been notified by numerous pet owners and they have not done anything to alert unsuspecting pet parents. Initially, there were offering to reimburse the pet owners for their pet food. Currently, they are offering pet parents $10 in coupons (which is what Hills offered me for my dead dog) and having a third party contact the pet parents.

Eventually, we may see Purina pet food become “unavailable” on the store shelves. This is called a silent recall. The pet food manufacturer doesn’t want to admit there is a problem with the product, so they start pulling the products off the shelves quietly. (Hills did this for 60 days before the recall)."

If anyone is looking for a Vegan option to add to their ratties food. ( I would NEVER recommend this diet for dogs, even though it's made for them) Open Farm Kind Earth Premium is great for ratties. The protein is 22%.
Now remember rats are omnivores so they NEED meat in their diet. Meat protein and plant protein are two VERY different things. So the above mention should be given with a meat based food as well. I will be adding this to my rattie mix.

Though you may have been led to believe it is harmless, Cytopoint does dysregulate the entire immune system and yes, it does cause similar issues to immunosuppressants.

If your pet is going to respond to a Cytopoint injection, it will be within 1 day. It is labeled as a once per month injection, though it lasts 4-8 weeks. They do advise to try a second injection even if the first one doesn't work. The problem is, their body can make antibodies to this synthetic antibody injection. If you've been getting repeat injections and you notice the "positive" effects wearing off, that means it is no longer working.

Proin is used to treat urinary incontinence in pets with poor urethral sphincter muscle tone. This one is close to my heart because my own dog went blind and lost both of her eyes after just one dose of this medication skyrocketed her blood pressure.

Proin is labeled to be used with caution in dogs with heart disease, liver disease, kidney insufficiency, diabetes, glaucoma, and conditions with associated hypertension.

What does a candy company have to do with pet care?

You can purchase your Mars owned pet food, (Royal Canin, Nutro, Iams, Eukanuba, Whiskas, etc)
then take your pet to the Mars owned vet hospital (Banfield, VSH, VCA, etc)
then have diagnostic testing done at a Mars owned lab. (Antech)

The concern with one company having so much money and power over the pet industry is that this could force prices to increase and quality of veterinary care and services to decrease.

Someone could mass produce poor quality food, oversell vaccines and flea/tick/hw chemicals, and keep our pets on a constant wheel of disease while profiting from each link in the chain...

Watch Out for Birch Sugar in Foods❗

If you see the ingredient “birch sugar” on a food label, keep it out of your pet’s reach. ❌ This ingredient is the same thing as xylitol, a sugar alcohol sweetener that’s toxic to pets. If consumed, xylitol can lead to a sudden release of insulin, followed by a sharp drop in blood sugar (hypoglycemia), triggering vomiting, loss of consciousness and seizures in dogs (cats appear less sensitive). 🆘🐕

Xylitol may also be referred to as “birch sap” or “wood sugar,” so keep an eye out for these ingredients on labels as well.
