Happy national dog day! ❤️🐾
It was a fun weekend for me as I learned all things "scentwork." If you're not familiar with the sport here's a definition of sorts from the American Kennel Club site: Scentwork is "a sport that mimics the task of working detection dogs to locate a scent (e.g., explosives or narcotics) and communicate to the handler that the scent has been found. Scent Work is a positive, challenging activity that allows dogs the opportunity to use their strongest natural sense in a way that’s fun, engaging, and that builds and strengthens a foundation of trust between the handler and dog." If you think you and your dog might like to try scentwork there are classes through Paws Pet Resort and through K9nosesports.

To those who participated in the Dock Diving competitions this summer, THANK YOU! Thanks to you guys having fun with your dogs and your generosity, I took a check to Veterans Community Project of Sioux Falls for $2700! They're almost finished with the huge community center at the village that will need to be furnished, so I told them to use the money for whatever they needed. Today, they made my day when I got an email saying they'd like to use it to furnish the dog wash station that will be in the new community center! I think this is the perfect use of funds that came from soooo many wet dogs! 🐾💦🧽

Fun was had on the dock this past weekend! If you participated in the DockDogs competition at Scheels the gallery is now live. I warn you, the gallery is huge! If I was able to hold focus then it's in there. Congrats to all the medal winners, and for those who didn't place I think it's obvious from the photos that your dog had a blast! 🐾💦

This may not be an image that's scroll stopping, but this is the kind of thing that stops me when I'm editing. It's the cheers from the crowd that makes this a great photo for me! When I go through the images from a session it's always obvious when a dog (or human) reaches the point where they felt they could relax and be themself. While scrolling through the images I often catch myself smiling and saying out loud, "Aaaaaand, there it is." When I'm scrolling it's also rare that the first image I take is one of my favorites and doesn't get thrown out. But, then there's Ilsa. This was the first image of the session, and it's obvious that this seasoned girl exhibits not only beauty, but class. ❤️🐾

What makes a happy dog? Dog moms and dads do! When you're happy, they're happy... and so much fun! This weekend was a hot one, but it was a lot of fun out at the Paws Summer Showdown. I took almost 7K pictures and am editing away, but I wanted to share a few from the first day showing how happy these dogs are about being on the dock with their handlers (and Sam 😊). 🐾💦

I've had more end of life Zoe Sessions lately than I would like. It's always sad when we have to say goodbye, but I'm thankful for those who can let their dogs go when it's time.
Sandy was one of the dogs I photographed over the last 2 months who meant so much to her dog mom. We got some beautiful pictures of Sandy the night before she said her goodbyes. You can see more on the blog. ❤️🐾
