'M' is for Martha!

Martha has always been shy and scared, but recently, she has been making slow but steady progress. She is starting to trust, starting to believe that kindness exists. But her journey hasn’t been easy.

She shared her world with her dear friend Agatha, who gave her comfort and reassurance. Sadly, Agatha passed away unexpectedly earlier this month, leaving Martha feeling even more lost. Now, more than ever, she needs love and support.

At around ten years old, Martha deserves a forever home, but it would need to be with someone very experienced and patient, someone who understands fearful dogs and can help her build confidence at her own pace.

Until that special home comes, a kind sponsor could make all the difference in her life. Keeping a dog safe at our shelter costs around £40 per month, providing food, warmth and medical care. You don’t have to cover the whole amount, a £5 monthly sponsorship would help more than you could imagine.

'M' is for Matthew!

Matthew has spent his entire life in shelters, never knowing the warmth of a loving home. Born in 2015, he is a medium-sized boy who has grown very nervous around people and doesn’t tolerate human contact. While he isn’t suitable for foster or adoption, Matthew still deserves kindness and care.

He has a big personality and loves food more than anything - it’s the way to his heart! Though he struggles with trust, Matthew gets along with dogs and shares his space with his companion, Nadia 2.

Matthew’s foreseeable future will be in the safety of the shelter, but he still needs your help. By becoming his sponsor, you can ensure he receives the love, food and care he depends on.

Alaska was good when meeting the resident shelter cat.

Having been abandoned as a young pup Alaska has not had the best start in life. We will never know her story before she was rescued. Our hope for this lovely girl is that someone will see her and offer her a loving home where she can have the future she deserves.

She’s shy and nervous, having experienced trauma in her past (rescued from a public shelter in 2019), but with time and patience, her true nature will shine through. Mouse needs someone special - a patient and compassionate owner who won’t be overwhelmed by her slow progress. She thrives in a quiet environment and would love to have a friendly, confident dog by her side to help guide her.

Her best friend Freddy is her rock - they live together, and Mouse feeds off his confidence, finding comfort in his presence. Margo, born in 2019, is a pretty and lively girl with a zest for life. She adores being outside, whether it’s exploring, playing, or simply soaking up the world around her. Margo thrives on human attention and even loves a good grooming session, making her the perfect companion for someone ready to share her active lifestyle.

She’s good with people and other dogs, but isn’t a fan of cats. Margo has made great progress with her lead training but will need someone committed to helping her continue her journey to becoming the best version of herself.

We are absolutely overwhelmed with gratitude. Thanks to your incredible generosity, we have not only raised enough to rescue all 11 dogs from the kill shelter and bring them to safety at our shelter, but we also have enough to cover their vaccinations and some puppy food!

While this is a huge first step, more funds will still be needed for any medical treatment they require, neutering/spaying, and lots of puppy food to help them grow strong. But right now, we are just so incredibly happy that we can save them and give them the future they deserve.

First thing tomorrow morning, as soon as the public shelter opens, we will reserve them and then get them out as quickly as possible.

Right now, we know very little about the eight puppies, including who their mother is. But thanks to your kindness, if she is there, we now have the funds to rescue her too. We have no confirmation that she is, but we are hoping with everything we have that we will find her.

We will update you as soon as they are safe. Until then, we just want to say - thank you, from the bottom of our hearts. Every single donation, share and kind word made this possible. Because of you, these 11 innocent souls get a second chance at life.

TIME IS RUNNING OUT – WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Yesterday, we shared how we were aiming to save 11 dogs from being killed on Tuesday - 3 adults and 8 puppies! At just 3 months old, these poor babies have not even had a chance to live yet. They have all suffered so much already, we can't let their lives end before they've even had a chance to experience kindness.

To save them, we urgently need to raise £150 per dog to cover their rescue, transport and vaccinations. Without this, they have no future. We also want to provide them with proper puppy food to help them regain their strength.

We know this is a big ask, but every single donation - no matter how small - makes a difference. These dogs have already been let down by the world; let’s not let them down again.

Friendly boy Maddox is our next alphabet of dogs star and our first 'M'!

Maddox’s journey began when he was rescued alongside his mum, Sierra, and his five siblings - Diego, Odin, Naira, Lala and Rosco. Born around November 2020, Maddox has grown into a friendly and sociable boy who enjoys the company of both people and other dogs.

Lovely Lora is our next 'L' star!

You may remember Lora from our volunteers’ trip last September, where she joined our shelter alongside her friend Darcy. This small, resilient girl was rescued in poor condition, covered in mange. Thanks to dedicated care and love, Lora has made an incredible recovery and is now thriving.

Born in 2017, Lora is a loving and friendly dog who adores human attention. She’s not a fan of cats or other dogs, so she’d do best as the only pet in a home where she can soak up all the love and affection.

URGENT APPEAL – 11 DOGS FACING DEATH

We have just received devastating news - 11 innocent dogs are set to be killed on Tuesday if they are not reserved or removed from their kill shelter in time. 8 puppies, just three months old, and 3 adult dogs.

We cannot let their short, heartbreaking lives end this way. We need to raise £150 per dog to cover their rescue, transport, vaccinations, and ensure their safety - protecting not only them but also the dogs already in our care.

We also desperately want to provide puppy food to help these little ones grow strong and healthy after so much suffering.

Our next 'L' dog is Leroy!

Leroy was rescued from Petro Public Shelter on 25th July 2019, and he’s been waiting ever since for the love and comfort of a real home. Born in 2013, Leroy is a friendly and affectionate boy who adores people and gets along well with other dogs.

He currently shares his days with his friend Mireya, but what Leroy truly longs for is a foster or forever home where he can finally experience the warmth of a family.

Gorgeous LuLu3 has the chance of a home, but she needs surgery.

Lulu 3 may have the chance of a home, but she does have hip dysplasia issues in both back legs and she needs two operations to sort it. It really is best to have the ops before leaving for pastures new, mostly because it is cheaper to get done in Romania.

Despite her tough start, Lulu has grown into a friendly, playful and affectionate pup who adores attention and loves spending time with her siblings.

Shy sweetheart Lisa 2 is our next 'L' dog of the week!

Lisa’s journey hasn’t been easy. Rescued from a public shelter in July 2019, this gentle girl has known fear and uncertainty for much of her life. Born in 2015, she is very nervous around people and will need a patient and understanding foster or forever home to help her feel safe and loved.

Lisa is good with other dogs and currently shares her days with her canine companion, Timothy. While she may be shy with humans, her interactions with other dogs bring her comfort and happiness.

This sweet girl deserves a chance to experience the kindness and warmth of a loving home. She needs someone who can gently guide her, giving her the time and space to overcome her fears at her own pace.

'L' is for... Lady Penelope!

Lady Penelope was rescued from a public shelter on 19th July 2019 and has been waiting patiently for her chance at a better life ever since. This beautiful girl is medium to large sized and is a little shy with people at first. However, once she learns to trust you, she reveals her sweet and loving nature.

Lady Penelope gets along well with other dogs and currently lives with her friend Lucky 3 (who you can see her posing with in the second picture). Born around 2016, she is still hoping to find her foster or forever home - a place where she can finally feel safe and loved.

Unfortunately, our sweet girl Roxy suffered a stroke yesterday and is currently under the care of our vets. It’s absolutely heartbreaking to see her go from being so full of life, happy and energetic, to now being so down and confused. On top of this, Roxy has also contracted a genital infection, which is adding to her struggles. Help us fund x-rays for Peggy, Pearl and a friend! Peggy and her pup Pearl have been through so much already. Now, they’re showing signs of possible hip issues, and we need your help to get them the x-rays they urgently need to determine the cause. URGENT APPEAL A hungry mother and her four precious girls were found together along a busy road, dangerously close to traffic. Thankfully, one of our amazing team members spotted them near the shelter and managed to rescue all five, bringing them to safety just in time. We are so sad to have to announce the passing of our lovely boy Cash. While he was never adopted, he certainly didn't lack a family at our shelter. He will be dearly missed. Here he is enjoying a brush and run around in the summer, with his friend and kennel-mate Connie. Sleep well baby boy. 💛

Our Story

Romanian Rescue Appeal was founded by Lindsey Church in March 2014.

The Romanian Rescue Appeal brings together a team of people dedicated to rescuing dogs from the awful situations they face in Romania. It is run by the trustees and volunteers, with the support of several other experienced rescuers in the UK. and Romania. Our aim is to find loving new homes for the dogs that we rescue .

We are in the process of building our own Rescue Centre in Tecuci, Romania. This will enable us to provide the care needed for the dogs destined to die in the Public shelters.

We rely totally on donations and fund raising events. Our main platform to raise donations is via Facebook. Without the support of the supporters on here, our dogs would have nothing. We have found loving homes for over a thousand dogs since our start.
