Looking for something fun to do with your dog this spring?
The Fast Coursing Ability Test (Fast CAT) is a timed 100-yard dash where dogs chase a lure to measure their speed in miles per hour. Fast CAT is a fun sport for all dogs.
Fast CAT is especially attractive to novice competitors. All that is needed to compete is your dog's natural instincts and healthy body condition. Most dogs chase the lure once it starts moving, the course is straight so no sharp turns are required.
To participate in the AKC Fast CAT, your dog must be at least one year old. Participating dogs must have an AKC number through their AKC Registration, AKC Canine Partners, Purebred Alternative Listing (PAL) program, or Foundation Stock Service (FSS). Also, spayed and neutered dogs are eligible to compete in these events and are welcome. Dogs with Limited or Conditional Registration are eligible to participate. Females in season are not eligible to participate. An inspection committee will inspect each dog for lameness and fitness before competing.
Fast CAT offers a fun and friendly environment where people can share their love of dogs. Come watch or participate on May 13th - 15th out to the History Center of Olmsted County where the AKC Fast CAT Event presented by the Rochester Minnesota Kennel Club will take place. Entries may be submitted beginning Friday, March 18th, at 8 am.

This week's mystery breed is the Whippet!
The Whippet was recognized as a breed by the AKC in 1888.
Also known as the “Poor Man’s Racehorse” and the “Lightning Rag Dog”, this affectionate medium-size sighthound gives the appearance of elegance, fitness, power, and balance without coarseness. This calm and playful dog is the fastest of its size, reaching speeds of up to 35 miles per hour. Standing between 18 and 22 inches at the shoulder, these dogs look like a Greyhound, but smaller. They have a deep chest and trim waist, a lean head supported by a long, arched neck, and slim but sturdy legs. Lure coursing provides an excellent outlet for this dog's need for speed.

I’ve got a treat for you… but it’s not what you may think. Chocolate cake may be delicious, but I’d rather share a slice of encouragement with you today. You are doing better than you think. You are the light someone else is depending on right now. I know it may not always feel like it, but you’re making a BIG difference, and I find that way sweeter than cake! What’s your favorite treat? Share the sweet deets below!
Honestly? If I could go anywhere, I’d probably go back in time to this Delightful Downtown Dog walk my parents hosted in 2006. I know it’s not glamorous, but I have always loved training dogs and exploring around my city mastering real-life obedience skills. I am pictured here wearing my favorite poodle pajama bottoms and walking a small dog who did not belong to me but benefited from my help training. What about you? If you could go anywhere today, where would you go?
This week's mystery breed is the Skye Terrier!
The Skye Terrier was recognized as a breed by the American Kennel Club in 1887.
A member of the terrier group, this dog weighs between 35-45 lbs and stands between 9.5 and 10 inches at the withers. Originally they were bred to control fox and badger populations during the 1600s in Scotland's remote Isles of Skye. This breed is recognizable by its long, flat-lying coat and peekaboo hairdo, feathery ears that stand up like bat wings, and these elegant but substantial terriers are twice as long as they are high. Their character is that of a typical working terrier: dedicated worker, fearless, clever, resourceful, and devoted to their owners.

This week's mystery breed is the American Eskimo Dog!
This breed belongs to the AKC Non-Sporting Group.
German immigrants brought their nordic breed, the German Spritz, to the Midwest in the early 1800's. These white wonder dogs performed various chores around MidWest farms and later charmed audiences at the circus. Distinguishing features are their dense, sparkling white coat with a lion-like ruff around the chest and shoulders, smiling face with black nose lips and eye rims that convey a keen intelligent expression, and plumed tail carried over their back. These dogs come in three sizes: toy, miniature, and standard.
