As you can see, my cousins and I are so proud of our nana (my mom’s mom)! She was honored last night for her kindness and philanthropy. We made this video to show everyone how we feel. My nana is my mom’s biggest inspiration and so much of who mom is as a person stems from the love, kindness, and GOODNESS that she’s watched from Nana. Mom has always aspired to be more like her mom, which in turn has made her a better person. The most beautiful part is that it’s a cycle—nana also learned to be a better person by watching her parents (my incredible great-grandmother passed away this past January and my great-grandfather a few years ago). The lesson you can take away from this is that your children are watching. SHOW THEM THE KIND OF PERSON YOU HOPE THEY CAN BE! Model the ways you can make the world a better place and maybe they will strive to do the same. My favorite Hebrew phrase is “tikkun olam,” which means “mend or heal the world.” So much of our world is in need of repair and you have that power—it doesn’t matter what action you take so long as you put forth your best effort.
