I typically work reptile shows in the Charlotte / Concord area and Raleigh in NC; and in Columbia and Fort Mill in SC. I also ship reptiles in the continental USA. I'm a small scale reptile breeder and artist and I take a lot of pride in providing you support for the lifetime of your pet. I love getting updates on past hatchlings as well! About Sunfish Exotics:
My first season breeding reptiles wa
s in 2015! I started with a handful of leopard gecko pairings but have expanded over the years into other species and projects. I really like to focus on quality over quantity, and that includes both quality morph expression and the overall health of my animals. I'm an artist and love doing reptile related artwork! I have an online shop coming soon, but you can always get art from me at reptile shows. :)
I'm currently in the process of scaling back a bit with the number of animals I keep. I just need to take a year or so to refocus on what I really am passionate about keeping and producing. IMPORTANT: Over the next few years (likely until 2023 at the earliest) I will ONLY be producing Western Hognoses (various morphs) and Northern Mexican Pinesnakes (Pituophis deppei jani)

I’ve decided to break two tanks down for some refurbishment and restocking! All fish / inverts are available. Located in Harrisburg, NC 28075. No shipping with the summer heat, but can meet within an hours drive. I also have some reptiles available that I’d be happy to make group deals on. Just ask! South American
-7x Young adult turquoise phase green severums (Heros efasciatus) I have one breeding pair that I will not separate, the rest can go as singles.
-Adult female wildtype bristlenose pleco
-?? Adult emerald cory cats (Corydoras / Brochis splendens) - Unsure how many I have, will get an accurate count in a bit. will not separate
-2x Young adult meesi imitator catfish (Brachyrhamdia meesi) - Rare, will not separate. Peaceful nocturnal catfish that shoals with cories in the wild. These guys grow to about 3-4” and should be kept with cories.
Livebearers
-?? Yellow tiger endlers (K Class), not sure how many I have. Will sell in 1.1 pairs or 1.2 trios until gone. I’ve had some hypomelanistic individuals pop up in this group and would be a fun project to play around with. Will throw in whatever young / fry I net as well for free.
African
-1x Synodontis sp. - was sold to me as a multipunctatus but it’s either a hybrid or similar dwarf species, it’s an adult and has settled out at around 4”.

Tanager (Male DRMB) looking fresh after a shed. I'm taking it pretty easy this season (one clutch of hognoses, one Mexican pine) partly in prep for next year which is gonna be SUPER busy! Big plans! Hope everyone is doing well!

I picked up a new light tent setup and it's been really fun to play around with! I'm getting pics together of the janis and will hopefully be able to start listing the ones who have had a growth shed today or tomorrow. I definitely want to get them shipped out before the weather starts getting truly hot.. or I may be tempted to keep them until fall! Pictured are Dahlia (female, maybe gravid?) and Snapdragon (male).

The little janis are going into their first growth sheds now! After they've all shed out and I've decided exactly how many I'm keeping I will start listing them. I'm mostly taking it easy this year in terms of pairings but I'm hoping to have a nice clutch of half-siblings to this batch and maybe a hognose pair or two. This season is a lot of prep work, I have several new species that will be ready next season so I'm trying to get all my caging ready and in a good spot for a busy 2025. Hope you guys are doing well! 🌿

I apologize for the lack of updates and posts! I caught covid for the first time and it was pretty rough! Here is the full jani clutch, I'll go back in and label with s*x and ID in a bit in the comments. I'm keeping them for another shed cycle but then will start making them available. Hope you all have a wonderful and peaceful Christmas & New Years!

I'll be working the Charlotte / Concord repticon this weekend! As far as animals go I'll be bringing some hognoses (22s and 23s) and leopard geckos (23s and a handful of proven breeders). I will have a selection of original art prints, vinyl stickers, posters, and enamel pins. I'm also bringing a gently used (steam cleaned) AP 10 level, 32qt rack with heat tape and tubs priced to sell- it just needs a thermostat and will be good to go.

Some updated pics of my western hognose holdbacks from last season.
1. Granite - Male - Purple line / extreme red X arctic (?) superconda het albino ph sable (Citrine X Amethyst) - he was slow to start and insisted on scented feeders but is now finally on unscented and starting to take off.
2. Ruby - Female - Extreme red arctic ph albino (Gabbro X Garnet) - in shed
3. Galena - Female - Arctic anaconda het albino (Gabbro X Splendid)
Got big plans for them in a couple years!

The enamel pin pre-orders are going out today! I had to do some research and planning on how to package them for safe travels! I've decided to go all out and pack them first (with the freebies!) in padded bubble mailers and then packed into flat cardboard envelopes. I've heard of people having mixed results when only using one or the other so I figured I'd rather spend a little extra on supplies and shipping than send out pins that will end up damaged. I still need to take & edit photos / video for the listing ad for the pins but I will definitely make a post when they're ready to go!

The first round of enamel pins have arrived! Couldn't resist having a hognose face be the first one. I've got to sort them out and send out the preorders but then will have them up for sale on my Etsy and of course at shows as well!

The first small clutch of the year is out and feeding! Two little red arctic ph albino girls. I'm going to be holding back all the hognoses this year until at least 15g to ensure they're bullet proof too, so they'll be here for a while. Eager to see their colors develop! 🌿🐍

I'll be vending the Charlotte (Concord) Repticon July 8th & 9th! I will have the last of my 2022 juveniles (leopard geckos and western hognoses) as well as a few adult proven breeder leos. I'll also have lots of art, including some new products! Prints, posters, vinyl stickers, and originals. Enamel pins coming soon!

Still in the incubating eggs phase of the season, haven't had anything hatch out yet! I've got hognose and leo eggs cooking though, hoping for at least one clutch of Mexican pine eggs too.

Not exactly a nice picture, but a few days ago I pulled Marigold out to get a weight on her. She's up almost 300g since coming out of brumation and has only been fed 3 times. She's also in shed (she's cleared up as of today!) so I'm really hoping it's pre-lay and I'll get a nice clutch of eggs in a couple weeks! I'll keep you guys posted!

About Sunfish Exotics
Sunfish Exotics is a passion project owned and operated by Morgan Carpenter. I've always had an obsession with animals. I actually began in the aquarium hobby as a teenager, but after getting my first leopard gecko I fell completely in love with reptiles. I learned a lot in those first few years and made some mistakes, as we all do when first starting out. My small collection of pets grew, and in 2015 I made the leap and bred a single pair of leopard geckos for the first time. It was certainly not a perfect first attempt, but I was hooked. Each subsequent season I've put more and more time into this hobby and my plans for the future have grown. I'm also an artist! Most of my portfolio is animal or plant related. I love painting pet portraits, but I also offer other services such as logo design. I mainly work with watercolors, acrylics, and digital media.
My goal is to provide you with the best possible buying experience, no matter if the animal is your first reptile or you're a seasoned breeder.

Because I am focused to giving each of my animals individual attention and getting them off to the best start possible, I am only producing a limited number of hatchlings at this time. Each year at Sunfish Exotics I will be increasing the number of hatchlings that are produced, though I will always stay small-scale so I can continue to provide each animal with the very best in care and husbandry. I pride myself in being transparent with the methods I use and am eager to see other hobbyists and breeders go beyond the "bare minimum". I love designing and building enclosures and am always happy to give advice on how best to meet the needs of your pets.
