Did you know?

While antifreeze is vital to shield your car's engine from severe winter weather, it can put your pets in danger.

Ethylene glycol is a common ingredient in many de-icing products and is highly poisonous if consumed by dogs, cats, birds and wildlife. To make matters worse, animals can find the taste of antifreeze enjoyable, so they lick areas that have been treated and poison themselves.

Signs of poisoning can include being quiet or lethargic, vomiting, unsteadiness, muscle twitching, seizures and collapse. Urgent attention is very important as the results can often be fatal.

We recommend you switch to a pet-safe, propylene glycol-based antifreeze, which is considered less toxic than ethylene glycol-based antifreeze.

Please get in touch with us immediately if you suspect your pet has ingested something they shouldn't have. Also, please consider sharing this post with other pet owners to help prevent more cases of antifreeze poisoning.

When was the last time you verified that your pet's microchip details were up to date?

Ensuring that your pet's microchip information is up to date is vital for their safety and provides you with peace of mind for you as a responsible owner.

Here's why you should ensure they are up to date:

📝 In the unfortunate event that your pet goes missing, having accurate microchip information significantly increases the likelihood of you and your pet being reunited.

⏰ It is important to update your pet's microchip information whenever there is a change in your address, phone number, or any relevant contact details.

📞 As a responsible pet owner, it's important to remember that you play a crucial role in ensuring your pet's microchip information is up to date. You can contact your microchip provider directly, and the process is quick and straightforward.

Please remember: A microchip is effective only if the information associated with it is accurate.

Check your pet's microchip details are up to date today! 🐶🐱

🌍 This Week is World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week (WAAW), and this week's theme is "Educate. Advocate. Act now."

Antibiotic resistance is a serious global issue that affects both humans and animals. It's crucial to protect the effectiveness of antibiotics so they can continue to save lives when truly needed. 💊

You can make a difference...

November is Pet Diabetes Month, and today is World Diabetes Day! 🐾💙

Did you know there are several signs of diabetes mellitus in dogs and cats? Look out for these symptoms:

🐶 Excessive thirst
🐱 Increased urination
🐶 Inappropriate urination
🐱 Weight loss
🐶 Increased appetite
🐱 Cataracts
🐶 Weakness
🐱 Lethargy
🐶 Poor skin condition

Pet obesity is a rising concern in the UK, and it often goes hand-in-hand with diabetes. Our team offers glucose testing through blood or urine samples to detect diabetes early. Additionally, our tests can check for elevated liver enzymes and electrolyte imbalances—both of which can be indicators of diabetes.

Do you have a pet with diabetes? Share your experiences in the comments below; we'd love to hear from you.

🦷 When was the last time you checked your pet's teeth?

Did you know that your pet's dental health is just as crucial as your own? Dental disease is a common issue for both dogs and cats, and it can impact their overall health more than you might think.

Here are some key signs to watch for:
👃 Bad breath (that "doggy breath" isn't normal!)
🔴 Red or bleeding gums
🍽 Difficulty eating or chewing
💦 Excessive drooling
🦷 Loose or missing teeth
🟤 Teeth covered in tartar

If you spot any of these signs, it might be time for a dental check-up! A healthy mouth means a healthier, happier pet. 🐶🐱💖

🐀🐀 Meet Dino and DK, two brave rats who recently visited our Roundhouse Hospital for their castration operations!

We understand that surgery can be a bit daunting for our furry friends. That's why we go the extra mile to provide a comfortable and caring environment. After their procedures, Dino was feeling much better and ready to enjoy his special “packed lunch.”

We always encourage owners to bring a little meal for our small patients to help them recover with a bit of extra love! 🍽️

We hope that both Dino and DK have a smooth and speedy recovery.

Are you and your pet prepared for bonfire night? 🎆🎇🧨

Loud bangs, pops and bright flashing lights can be very stressful for pets and their owners, so we wanted to share a few measures you can put in place to help your pet, including a great pet playlist, which you can play to help distract your pet from the frightful fireworks.

While fireworks light up the skies, we advise you to:
🏠 Stay at home with your pet
💧 Ensure they have access to fresh water
🚪 Close curtains, blinds, windows and keep doors closed
🎪 Provide a safe space with bedding for your pet to snuggle in, and consider bringing small animals inside.

😺 🏥 Does your cat experience stress during veterinary visits?

There are several effective strategies you can use to make the experience more comfortable for your cat—and for you too! 💙

📦 One of the most important steps is providing a safe, sturdy, and secure carrier. 🧳 Please refer to the image below for guidance on selecting the right carrier.

🧣 It’s also a good idea to cover the carrier with a towel or blanket as soon as you leave home, and keep it covered throughout your visit to the veterinary practice. This helps to minimize your cat's stress by blocking unfamiliar sights, especially any 🐶 dogs in the waiting area.

🚶‍♀️ When you arrive at the practice, head straight to the designated cat waiting area and place the carrier on a seat before checking in with our customer care team. This will help avoid interactions with curious dogs while you’re checking in.

For more information and advice on reducing stress during veterinary visits, we recommend this guide from International Cat Care >> https://ow.ly/ixU250TRfKr

If you have a fabulous feline in your life or know someone who would find this information helpful, please save or share this post with them! 🐱💙
