🐀🐀 Meet Dino and DK, two brave rats who recently visited our Roundhouse Hospital for their castration operations!

We understand that surgery can be a bit daunting for our furry friends. That's why we go the extra mile to provide a comfortable and caring environment. After their procedures, Dino was feeling much better and ready to enjoy his special “packed lunch.”

We always encourage owners to bring a little meal for our small patients to help them recover with a bit of extra love! 🍽️

We hope that both Dino and DK have a smooth and speedy recovery.

Are you and your pet prepared for bonfire night? 🎆🎇🧨

Loud bangs, pops and bright flashing lights can be very stressful for pets and their owners, so we wanted to share a few measures you can put in place to help your pet, including a great pet playlist, which you can play to help distract your pet from the frightful fireworks.

While fireworks light up the skies, we advise you to:
🏠 Stay at home with your pet
💧 Ensure they have access to fresh water
🚪 Close curtains, blinds, windows and keep doors closed
🎪 Provide a safe space with bedding for your pet to snuggle in, and consider bringing small animals inside.

😺 🏥 Does your cat experience stress during veterinary visits?

There are several effective strategies you can use to make the experience more comfortable for your cat—and for you too! 💙

📦 One of the most important steps is providing a safe, sturdy, and secure carrier. 🧳 Please refer to the image below for guidance on selecting the right carrier.

🧣 It’s also a good idea to cover the carrier with a towel or blanket as soon as you leave home, and keep it covered throughout your visit to the veterinary practice. This helps to minimize your cat's stress by blocking unfamiliar sights, especially any 🐶 dogs in the waiting area.

🚶‍♀️ When you arrive at the practice, head straight to the designated cat waiting area and place the carrier on a seat before checking in with our customer care team. This will help avoid interactions with curious dogs while you’re checking in.

While pumpkins are a popular seasonal treat and look fantastic when they have been carved and lit up, there are a few hidden risks for pets that every owner should be aware of.

Here's what to watch out for...

🎃 Raw pumpkin: It can upset your pet's stomach. Stick to plain, cooked pumpkins if you want to give them a treat.

🎃 Pumpkin seeds: Raw seeds are hard to digest and may cause blockages.

🎃 Spiced pumpkin foods: Pumpkin pies and treats often contain harmful ingredients like sugar, nutmeg, or cinnamon, which are dangerous for pets.

🎃 Pumpkin decorations: Be careful with lit jack-o'-lanterns - they can be a fire hazard if pets knock them over.

🎃 Candles: Jack-o'-lanterns with real candles pose a fire risk if your pet knocks them over. Opt for LED candles and keep them out of reach of curious pets.

Keep your pets safe this season by keeping pumpkins, especially spiced and decorative ones, out of their reach! 🍂🐕🐈

KEEP YOUR PET SAFE THIS HALLOWEEN 👻🎃👹

Halloween can be a ‘spooktacular’ time of year for many, but it can be a stressful experience for pets. Here are some helpful tips to keep your pets safe and happy during the Halloween season:

🐶 Spend time reassuring your pets if you plan to dress up for Halloween. Masks and makeup may be enjoyable for you, but your pets may find them scary if they don't recognise you.

🚪 With the constant opening and closing of doors for trick-or-treaters, ensure your pets are kept from potential escape routes. It's also important to have your pets micro-chipped in case the unexpected happens.

🎆 If bright lights or loud noises are anticipated, provide a safe and comfortable space for your pets to retreat to.

🍬 Keep sweet treats out of reach, including chocolate, sweets, and anything containing xylitol.

🎃 Decorations have become a big part of Halloween; however, curious pets can sometimes get into trouble with them. To ensure your pets stay safe, keep open flames, small decorative lights, and decorations out of their reach.

We hope you have a safe and 'fang-tastic' Halloween, but should you need us, we will be here for you and your pet.

🌙🛏️ Who else is looking forward to an extra hour of sleep this weekend?

As we get ready for the clock change, it’s important to remember that our pets may need a little help adjusting, too! 🐶🐱

Dogs and cats thrive on routine, and while they don’t understand the time change, they can definitely feel its effects. Here are a few simple tips to ease them through the transition:

🐾 Shift bedtime gradually: Bring their bedtime forward a little each evening to prepare for the new schedule.

🌙 Walk your dog earlier: With darker evenings, an earlier walk can help them stay safe and adjust to the changing light.

🍽️ Adjust meal times: Gradually shift feeding times over the next few days so the change doesn’t feel too sudden.

🚗 Keep cats safe: With darker evenings, cats are more at risk on busy roads. Bring them indoors earlier to keep them safe.

If you have any questions or notice your pet struggling with the transition, don’t hesitate to reach out to us! 💙

🦟 Fleas in Winter? Yes, they’re still a problem! 🦟

Fleas don’t disappear in winter - they can stay active and even thrive indoors where it’s warm. Keep your pets protected all year round with these tips:

Regular treatments 💧 - Continue using flea prevention products even in colder months.
Check for fleas 🔍 - Inspect your pets regularly for any signs of fleas.
Clean bedding 🧼 - Wash your pet’s bedding frequently to kill any hidden fleas.
Vacuum often 🧹 - Regularly vacuum your home to remove fleas and eggs.

Stay vigilant and keep those fleas at bay! 🐾❄️

Today is World Mental Health Day, a significant day to reflect on the importance of prioritising our mental well-being and supporting those around us to do the same.

One unique way to achieve this is by showing kindness, and there's nothing quite like the love we receive from our pets. Their unconditional love and support can work wonders for our mental health, making them invaluable companions in our journey towards well-being.

With 1 in 4 people experiencing mental health issues each year, caring for a pet can contribute to positive mental health in many ways, including:

💚 Providing companionship, security, and someone to spend time with
💚 Reducing anxiety and increasing self-confidence
💚Offering unconditional love and being great listeners
💚 Encouraging physical activity through daily walks or runs
💚 Facilitating social interaction with other pet owners
💚 Providing structure to the day with feeding, exercising, and caring for a pet
💚Elevating serotonin and dopamine levels through play leads to a calming and relaxing effect

Take some time today to prioritise your mental health by spending time with your pet. Enjoy the time you spend with them, taking your dog for a walk, cuddling with your cat, or giving your pet a stroke.
