We've said it once and we will say it again: Building a successful rehab program requires clinical reasoning and evidence-based knowledge.

While there are guidelines, such as time spent in each stage of healing, this is individual to each horse, injury, and tissue type.

In our courses, we teach you how to analyze each case, and develop the best possible plan for recovery using science, strategy and clinical reasoning: What does the horse need?

You know as well as we do that each horse's injury is unique. For example, a joint is complex because it is stabilised by various structures. Each has a different timeline for healing.

Depending on the diagnosis, the location, the structures involved, and the type of lesion, the rehabilitation plan CANNOT be a one-size-fits-all approach!

The essence of the Academy of Animal Sport Science approach is this: We teach you how to use clinical reasoning to develop evidence-based rehab programs for individual cases.

A successful rehabilitation for the horse DEPENDS on the practitioner's plan, including a highly-refined ability to shape rehabilitation to the injury. Where different structures are involved (for example, a joint and a collateral ligament), healing time will be different for the bone and the ligament, and different treatments are usually required to address the individual lesions.

Equine rehab is not a job that anyone can 'just do.' It is a profession that requires qualified training, credentials, knowledge of the horse's body on a deep level, critical thinking, the ability to work with a veterinarian's diagnosis and as a part of the horse's care team, and someone who can think "out of the box!"

Most importantly, the equine rehab professional should always remain focused on one question: "What does this individual horse need?"

Our flagship program - the Animal Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation certification - is a post-graduate, 285-hour course designed exclusively for licensed professionals to deepen their knowledge of equine rehabilitation.

*Licensed professionals include veterinarians, chiropractors, osteopaths, physical therapists/assistants, veterinary nurses/technicians.
