Sarka is hanging out with us at barn hunt enjoying one of her favorite snout snax treats.

Barn Hunt is a dog sport that tests a dog's ability to locate and signal the presence of rats hidden in a straw or hay bale maze. It's designed to showcase the natural hunting instincts of dogs, particularly those bred for vermin control.

In a Barn Hunt trial, dogs navigate a course of stacked hay bales, searching for safely enclosed live rats (protected in ventilated tubes). The challenge is to differentiate between empty tubes, litter (bedding) tubes, and the real thing. The dog must signal to their handler when they find a rat, and the team must complete the course within a set time limit.

Barn Hunt is open to all breeds and mixed breeds, encouraging teamwork between dogs and handlers. It’s a fun and inclusive sport that provides mental and physical stimulation while honoring a dog's natural prey drive.
