🤔 “But my dog is just naturally hyper!”

Ever heard this before? Or maybe you’ve said it yourself?

Here’s the truth: No dog is meant to be “on” all the time. Even working breeds, sport dogs, and high-drive puppies need to learn the art of settling.

👆 Swipe to learn why the “always on” dog is a myth - and what we can do about it!

The secret? Every dog has the capacity for emotional regulation. They just need to learn how to access it.

Think about it:
• Working dogs can switch off after their job
• Sport dogs settle between training
• Even wolves rest most of their day

Your high-energy dog isn’t broken - they just haven’t learned the skill of regulation yet!

💡 The Mellow Canine Approach:
We don’t suppress energy - we teach balance. Because a truly well-trained dog isn’t one who’s always calm... it’s one who knows WHEN to be calm.

Ready to help your “high energy dog” find their off switch? Let’s talk about how! 🐾

Bringing a new dog into your life is exciting, but it’s also a big adjustment – for them! 🐾

Everything we take for granted – doorways, stairs, traffic – is new and potentially overwhelming for your dog. They aren’t born knowing our rules or routines. It’s up to us to teach them with patience, empathy, and consistency.

At The Mellow Canine, we help you understand your dog’s perspective so you can build a stronger bond and guide them through our world with confidence.

Remember: Understanding is the foundation of trust. 💛

🎉 What’s a “Jackpot” in Dog Training? 🐾

In dog training, a “jackpot” is when you reward your dog with lots of treats at once for an amazing performance! 🌟 It’s a fun and effective way to keep your pup motivated, especially during challenging tasks or when learning something new.

Here’s how to use jackpots:
✅ Reward exceptional efforts, not every time.
✅ Vary treats to keep things exciting!
✅ Use jackpots during training and even for great everyday behavior.

Remember, sparingly used jackpots = higher motivation and engagement! 🙌

💡Saturday Tip💡

Choose interactive toys based on your dog’s age, breed, and skill level. Starting with simpler puzzles allows your dog to build confidence as they solve them. Gradually increasing difficulty helps them stay motivated and prevents frustration. Remember, a well-matched challenge promotes focus and boosts self-esteem! If your pup is struggling, guide them through it until they get the hang of it. 🐕‍🦺

Check out the link in my bio for some interactive toys! Also, DM me anything questions you have about what toys are best.

This Holiday Season, We’re Filled with Gratitude

As the year comes to a close, we find ourselves reflecting on what truly matters — and for us, it’s you. Our incredible clients, our loyal followers, and the wonderful pups we have the honor of working with every day.

To our clients: Thank you for trusting The Mellow Canine with your beloved dogs. Whether through training, daycare, or boarding, being part of your journey is a privilege we don’t take lightly. Watching your bonds grow stronger and seeing your pups thrive fills our hearts with joy. You are the reason we do what we do, and we are so grateful to be part of your lives.

To our followers: Your support means the world to us. Every like, comment, and share reminds us that we’re building a community of people who believe in going beyond obedience. Thank you for being here with us.

This season, we’re wishing you all peace, love, and so many wagging tails. May your holidays be filled with the same joy and warmth you’ve given to us this year.

Advocating for your dog is essential. Not every stranger needs to say hi, and that’s okay.

🐾 If your dog is reactive, nervous, or overly excited, saying no protects their well-being and builds trust.
🐾 Even if someone says “I don’t mind,” you’re allowed to set boundaries.

You don’t need a “valid” reason—your dog’s comfort and safety always come first.

Puppy biting can be frustrating, but it’s completely normal! Redirect their attention with toys or treats to show them what’s okay to chew on. Make sure they’re getting plenty of exercise like walks or playtime, and use a leash indoors for gentle guidance when needed.

Sometimes biting happens because they’re overtired or overstimulated, so give them breaks in their crate or playpen. Offer chew toys or frozen treats to help satisfy their need to bite. And don’t forget, puppies need lots of rest to stay calm and happy. Stay patient and consistent; this phase will pass!
