❗ Remember, never punish your dog’s growling. Instead, figure out WHY they’re doing it and address the root cause.
🔸 Growling is a way for your pup to communicate. It’s their way of saying they feel uncomfortable or threatened and need some space.
🔹 You can try to suppress the growling, but that won’t solve the problem. Your dog might stop growling, but they could just move on to snapping or even biting.
❣️ So, listen to your dog! Learn to communicate effectively and humanely. 💪

If you’re facing behavior issues, don’t wait! Most of the time, things won’t improve on their own.

Let’s Get Pawsitive LLC is here for you! Message us today if you’re struggling 💜

Here’s a fun way we keep our dog’s mind busy during this super cold weather! 🥶

We take a box, fill it with some packing paper and toilet paper rolls, and roll up treats inside before tucking it all in. It’s like a treasure hunt for our pup!

You can get creative with this too! Anything dog safe you have lying around can work. Just let your imagination run wild! 👏

It’s really important to keep doing enrichment activities with our dogs when they can’t enjoy the usual outdoor fun. Not only does it keep them entertained, but it also helps stimulate their minds and prevent boredom. So, let’s get those brains working!

Congratulations to this wonderful family! Ember and Magnus, were both adopted from Waynesville Shelter. They just turned 1yr old, and are a mastiff mix. Then there is their step-siblings is Spark (black dog)

This is the review from them❤️: “We adopted some dogs who did not start out life very well. We tried to work with them ourselves, having had several dogs before. But these two were scared of most things and had a hard time getting close to us. We decided we needed help. That’s when we met Agnes from Let’s Get Pawsitive LLC. Wow what a difference she made in the pups, and our, lives. We are so appreciative of Agnes and all she has done. So we say thank you Agnes. Ember and Magnus are so much more outgoing and trusting thanks to you!”

How wonderful was it to work with the family and see the dogs go through a big, positive change!

**Preventing Resource Guarding in Dogs and Puppies**

Resource guarding is a natural behavior in dogs and puppies, often stemming from their instinct to protect food, toys, or other valued items.

One outdated method often recommended is to stick your hand in your dog’s food bowl, with the thought of establishing dominance or to get them “use to it”. Not only is this approach ineffective, but it can also exacerbate the problem, leading to increased anxiety and defensive behavior around food. Instead, you should be making it a good thing when you are near their food.

**The Treat Drop Method:**

1. When your puppy is eating, casually drop a high-value treat into their bowl. This simple act teaches them that your presence near their food is a good thing.

2. After dropping the treat, walk away. This reinforces the idea that you’re not a threat to their resources, but rather someone who brings good things.

3. Make this a regular practice during feeding times. Over time, your pup will begin to associate your presence with positive experiences, reducing their instinct to guard their food.

**Understanding from Their Perspective:**

Consider how you would feel if someone approached you while you were enjoying your meal. If a family member or friend kept sticking their hand in your plate of food, you would mostly likely get irritated! I know I would, that’s my food! Dogs feel similarly about their resources. We should be respecting their space and helping them feel secure with being able to eat in peace.

What a year it’s been! ❤️ We couldn’t possibly shout out every single client, every glowing review, or all the incredible dogs and people we’ve had the pleasure of working with, but we’ve done our best to highlight as many as we could. We're super grateful to every client who trusted us with their dog, and we feel so lucky to have worked with so many amazing pups! Each dog and their human are so special and unique. ❤️🥰

We are sick of hearing other trainers say you have to use a E Collar, aka Shock Collars, in order for your dog to have off leash freedom. That Shock Collars are so “great” because they allow a dog to live a happier life with more freedom.

It’s bu****it. Please don’t believe the lies. ☺️

Both of us at Let’s Get Pawsitive LLC, and many many many others, have dogs that can run around off leash without having to resort to using painful methods.

This is such an important message.

From determining what and when they eat to deciding where and how they walk, and even who they interact with, our choices shape our dogs daily experiences. While this responsibility comes with the joy of living with them, it’s important to handle it with empathy.

Dogs thrive on routine, but they also have their own preferences and instincts. By recognizing that they are individuals with their own needs, we can create a more enriching environment for them. Offering choices, even in small ways, can make a big difference. For example, allowing your dog to choose between two different toys or letting them decide which route to take on a walk can empower them and enhance their overall well-being.

It’s important to be aware of your dog’s emotions and preferences. If they seem hesitant about a new food or anxious during a particular walk, take the time to adjust and provide alternatives. By nurturing an environment that respects their individuality, we can strengthen our bond and increase their happiness in life.

*thanks heal the dog for making this*

We LOVE lick mats! 🙌🤩

Having a lick mat for your dog’s enrichment activities is a must! These mats offer tons of benefits to meet all sorts of canine needs. 🤩

Using a lick mat can help reduce stress, provide mental stimulation, slow down eating habits, and serve as a positive distraction/association during grooming or other stressful situations. They can help with desensitization such as helping dogs get used to the doorbell without barking. They can also help manage anxiety by giving them a calming activity through repetitive licking—basically, it’s a great way to enrich your dog’s life.

Licking is soothing for dogs because it releases endorphins, Plus, licking on a textured mat keeps their minds engaged and can help prevent boredom, which might reduce destructive behaviors. 👏

The only limit to what you can put on a lick mat is your imagination (and, of course, making sure the food is safe for dogs)!

Attention, Pet Parents: A Yearly Reminder About Rawhide Safety!

🐾🚫🙅‍♂️🚫🙅‍♀️

It’s that time of the year again when we emphasize the importance of choosing safe and healthy options for our beloved pups. Unfortunately Rawhide is still being marketed as a safe and yummy treat. Another year I see tons of rawhide products on local store shelves.

Rawhide, while commonly found in stores, may actually pose risks to your pet’s health and well-being. These products are often made from the inner layer of animal hides, which undergo a process involving chemicals and artificial additives. Rawhide can also pose a choking hazard, especially if it’s not properly chewed or if large pieces are swallowed. In some cases, it can also lead to blockages in the digestive tract, which may (and has many times before) require surgical intervention.

The chemicals and artificial additives used in the processing of rawhide can cause stomach upset, diarrhea, and other digestive issues in some pets. These products may be difficult for some animals to digest, leading to discomfort and potential health complication.

🐾🚫🙅‍♂️🚫🙅‍♀️

But fear not! There are plenty of healthier alternatives available for your pet’s chewing needs. Opting for safer options, such as natural chews made from quality ingredients, can provide both entertainment and dental benefits without compromising your pups safety.

When selecting chews for your dog, keep these important factors in mind:

1️⃣ Choose natural chews made from quality ingredients, such as bully sticks, real bones, dental chews, or durable rubber toys designed for chewing.

2️⃣ Look for products that are free from artificial additives, chemicals, and preservatives.

3️⃣ Consider your pet’s size, age, and chewing habits to ensure you select an appropriate chew that meets their needs.

Lowes is PET FRIENDLY, making it a great spot to bring your dog for a walk, whether it's cold, snowy, rainy, or really hot outside!

Of course there is other pet friendly stores to choose from, which one is your favorite?

It was 28° outside today with a windchill that made it even colder, so we opted to stay inside.

I love pet friendly stores because its great enrichment for most dogs! (Some dogs may be nervous inside of stores)

You can let your dog sniff all the different objects, go up and down all the aisles, do socialization training, obedience training, and more!

Understanding your dog’s body language is super important! 🐾

By the time your dog starts growling or, even worse, bites, it usually means they’ve already been showing signals that they were uncomfortable and/or stressed. Dogs communicate a lot through their body and nonverbal cues.

Take a look at their ears, eyes, and overall body posture! These little details can tell you if your pup is feeling anxious, scared, or even excited. It’s all about catching those subtle signs before things escalate.

We often hear stories of dog bites happening out of nowhere, but trust us—there are always warning signs leading up to it, and it’s never just for no reason. Being aware of your dog’s feelings can help create a safe environment for everyone.

This holiday season, let’s prioritize learning about our dogs’ body language to prevent bites. A little understanding goes a long way in keeping our dogs and loved ones safe! 💖🐶

I'm so proud of Ein for completing the Puppy Basic Manners Training Course at only 6 months old! 🥳 What an accomplishment. All that hard work and dedication has really paid off.

This loves everyone! He also walks well on the leash, knows all his basic cues, like sit, down, stay, leave it, come, hand target, eye contact.

Ellie and Moose have a sad history and lack socialization. People might look at them weird when they react because they don't know what these girls have been through. It's easy to judge, but hard to be compassionate! We are super proud of them and their accomplishment! They have come so far and can enjoy so many aspects of life they never could before.
