Avalon For Animals Avalon for Animals shares the mission to bring awareness of and to prevent harm and suffering to the sentient beings and nonhuman animals across the earth.

Avalon For Animals is the parent organization partnering with Rescue For Earth Angels for both the promotion of animal welfare, care, rights, rescue and finding good, safe, loving forever homes for a diversity of animals including domestic pets,a diversity of wildlife globally, farm animals and marine life. The founder of Avalon For Animals is also the founder of Rescue For Earth Animals, both being located in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Dr Dame Daphne Sheldrick, our founder and matriarch, had the deepest reverence for all creatures — but none more so than the elephant. She made it her life’s work to protect and, crucially, understand the species. The husbandry and insights she discovered have helped us save hundreds of orphaned elephants.

Although Daphne is no longer with us, her legacy lives on through these orphans, and the families they have gone on to have in the wild. We proudly continue what Daphne began over half a century ago, forging a future for these remarkable creatures.

Yesterday would have been Daphne's 91st birthday. In honour of all we continue to learn from our matriarch, are revisiting one of our favourite pieces written by her. ‘Elephant Emotions’ offers a profound glimpse into the elephant psyche, gleaned through a lifetime of dedication to the species:
