Win a free, one-on-one dog training session with a certified dog training professional! (no aggressive dogs, please).

To improve my dog training business, I'm doing market research and offering a free one-hour evaluation and training session to a randomly selected participant.

I am collecting information from dog owners regarding their dog training needs. As a dog trainer, my number one goal is to help dogs by improving their behavior and strengthening their bond with their owners. I am seeking honest answers regarding what your needs are for dog training.

1. How much are you willing to budget for an hour of private dog training?

2. What is your budget for a single group class lasting 60-90 minutes and focusing on a specific topic such as leash manners or basic dog training?

3. What is your budget for a six-week group class, such as puppy training or basic obedience classes?

4. What attributes are important to you when choosing a dog trainer?

5. Do you consider a dog trainer with a facility to be more reputable than a mobile dog trainer?

Thank you for your time!

Is Your Dog Walking You?
Let’s Flip the Script – One Paw-sitive Step at a Time.

On June 7th, at 10:30 AM Join my “Leash & Learn” Group Training Class, where we turn tug-of-wars into tail-wagging strolls! This isn't your average obedience class—it's a focused leash manners makeover powered by positive reinforcement and good old-fashioned fun.

What You’ll Get:

Calm, controlled walks without the squirrel-chasing chaos

Techniques that reward good behavior—no scolding, just tail-wagging wins

Socialization with other pups (and their people!)

A trainer who speaks fluent "Doglish" and loves a good pun

Perfect for:
Dogs who zig when you zag, or treat your arm like a rope in a tug contest.

Because manners matter. And so does having fun while learning them.

Space is limited—grab your leash and sign up today!

Your champion tugger must be good with other dogs and people. No reactive or aggressive dogs, please. Proof of current rabies vaccine required. Class is held in a fenced area outside, the rain date is June 14th.

Join us for our Leash Manners Group Class where you and your pup can learn how to walk together like a dream team!

Artemis is my service dog in training. Service dogs are an important part of their handler's lives, even providing life-saving alerts and tasks.

The pictures below show the difference after 3 minutes of Deep Pressure Therapy from Artemis!
I have very high anxiety today, with increased heartrate (my regular resting rate is below 70) palpitations and buzzy teeth.

The bottom number (diastolic) is still high for me so I will check it again a bit later.

Deep Pressure Therapy is a therapeutic technique where pressure is applied to the body to provide tactile input and relaxation. In the case of service dogs, they can lay across the legs or across the whole body of the human.

This week's class was tough. I watched videos that showed how aversive 'training' techniques actually effect learning. Watching an animal refuse a food reward, pace, attempt escape and then freeze because it knew a punishment (shock) might come was heartbreaking.

I have decided to offer free sessions for people who have suffered domestic violence with their dogs.

Dogs get PTSD and trauma responses too. The behaviors seen can be reactivity, urinating/defecating in the house and when meeting new people, shaking, hiding and fear.

If your abuser abused your dog, I will teach you how to help your dog feel safe and have confidence again.

I am a judgement free zone. I have been there.

"The Link"

"There is a significant connection between domestic violence and animal cruelty, often referred to as "the Link". Abusers often threaten or harm their victims' pets to control them, keep victims from leaving, or to punish them for leaving. In one survey, 71% of domestic violence victims reported that their abuser also targeted pets. Multiple studies have found that from 49% to 71% of battered women reported that their pets had been threatened, harmed, or killed by their partners. Pet-friendly domestic violence shelters can provide housing and services for dogs and other pets."

Here is the next course I will be taking. This one is being offered through the Association for Professional Dog Training International while I have learned the basics of this. This is a more in-depth exploration of this fascinating topic.

Did you know that when your dog is in a negative, heightened emotional state (EG: fear, stress from pain) they do not learn as well?

In this stressed state, the learning center of the brain takes the back seat and allows the instinctive/reactive survival brain to take the wheel and steer. This leads to impulsive responses without much, or any, thought.

This is the answer to the question: Why do dogs that attack porcupines never learn? Because they are not in a learning state of mind once they experience the pain of being quilled.

Understanding how dog's biology affects behavior helps me to be a better dog trainer. I can look at behaviors and understand the possible motivations behind those behaviors. Once I understand the motivations, I can find alternate behaviors that work for both dog and human.

Our Story

I love animals. For as long as I can remember I have been completely at ease with animals and could understand and teach them easily. I only recently realized that not everyone has the same understanding! I opened For P.E.T.S., Pawsitive Education, Training & Services, first and foremost so that I could help pet owners and their dogs. I want to help you have the dog that YOU want, the one that makes YOU happy by behaving within the boundaries that YOU set.

My specialty is pet dog training. I am all about the bond between animal and human. I have never participated in obedience competitions with my dogs. Nor have I shown my horses. I didn’t participate in sports in school or ride during 4-H shows when I was a teen. I am not a competitive person. I also don’t agree with many of the forceful and often painful techniques that I have seen used to make sure that competing animals win.

I teach dogs to follow the rules and have manners while still allowing them to do the things they need to do in order to be happy dogs. What are those things? Sniffing the ground while on walks, being included in family activities, playing, exploring their environment and being allowed to meet and interact with other people if they want to!

Why am I offering professional dog training now? Because the field has had many advances over the last two decades that have changed how dogs are trained! I am so excited by these changes! I always hated seeing dogs cringe when their leash was je**ed or they were thrown to the floor in a ‘dominance roll’. I learned to train when physical punishments and painful management tools (think shock & prong collars and yes, I used them because that’s what MY teachers told me to do!) were the norm. I hated it. I finally went against the norm, trained my way and kept it as a ‘hobby’; something I did for fun or to help others.
