GRRAND Golden Retriever Rescue & Adoption of Needy Dogs (GRRAND) - Greater Louisville, KY, Greater Lexington, KY & Greater Cincinnati Area.
(1)

GRRAND is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Since our inception in 1994, we’ve rescued and re-homed more than 5,000 Golden Retrievers and mixed breed dogs. Averaging around 200-300 intakes per year, our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home dogs that have been abandoned, abused, or neglected along with those who are the victims of changed life circumstances such as finan

cial hardship, divorce, allergies, relocation, illness, or death. The medical resources and cost required to rescue one dog are vast, ranging from basic vaccinations and medical tests to heartworm treatment and surgeries. We rely on adoption fees, donations, and fundraising so that we never have to say no to a dog in need.

Meet Winston

Winston is a 3 year old, male Great Pyrenees weighing about 100lbs. This boy is looking for a home where he can roam and patrol in a secure above ground fenced yard as he has proven to NOT stay within invisible fence boundaries... he ignores them, and that is not good for anyone. We are told: " Winston will not stay in the yard and I will not keep him on a lead any longer, he has been on a lead for 2 years after not staying in the invisible fence. He deserves an above ground fenced yard with other dogs and space to move! He is the best dog and deserves better."

He is said to have lived with other dogs and cats (GRRAND has not cat tested him) and his house-trained but not crate-trained, and is trusted to have full run of the house.

He is a typical chill, low-key Great Pyrenees and we will update as we learn more, but if you would like to meet Winston our handsome Great Pyr, please fill out an app at https://www.wagtopia.com/search/pet?id=2575083&name=Winston+Dooley

Meet Sweet Face!

Hi, I'm Sweet Face! I am a gorgeous cream Lab, and I am absolutely adorable. I came in with my brother 12 months ago and am still waiting for my forever home.

My kennel dad tells me that my time will come and to be patient, but 12 months is a long time! I know someone out there wants a big, sweet, very playful, and absolutely beautiful dog.

Sweet Face is a typical beautiful Lab who is looking for her forever family through no fault of her own. Unfortunately her people are devastated that they had to surrender her, but they have fallen on some hard times, and came to GRRAND for help.

Shortly after intake, Sweet Face became very sick. She had open sores on her skin, difficulty with her vision and a lot of difficulty with breathing. She was rushed to Metropolitan Vet Specialist where she was diagnosed with Blastomycosis. The vets said that they had never seen a more severe case and based upon her condition, they recommended euthanasia because they didn’t feel that she would pull through and knew GRRAND would be spending thousands of dollars trying to save her. Nevertheless, we didn’t want to make this decision in haste so we decided to give her another 24 hours or so. 24 and 48 hours later she was still alive and her condition had not deteriorated. She was placed on the very expensive medication, Itraconazole, used to treat Blastomycosis, and was placed in an oxygen tent to receive full oxygen round the clock. Slowly, but surely, Sweet Face, only a 10 month old puppy at the time, started to improve. She was discharged from the hospital after a little over a week with a GRRAND bill of over $10,000. She requires, and continues to require, eye drops every 6 hours due to the infection in her eyes in order to attempt to save her vision from this horrible disease.

URGENT PLEA FOR FOSTERS!

SAVE A LIFE! FOSTER A DOG THIS HOLIDAY SEASON!

The holidays focus on love, warmth, and embracing compassion… and for countless dogs, a foster home is the miracle they hope for and deserve.

At this moment, we have so many pups coming in to GRRAND wishing this would be the season they truly feel HOME! The time when they can finally rest on a cozy bed rather than the cold ground. The time they learn the true meaning of being loved!

Do you have room in your heart and home to foster a dog in need?

GRRAND has been rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming dogs since 1996. Unfortunately, presently we have more dogs in need than room to accept and are looking for loving homes to foster some of our sweet dogs while they await their forever homes.

Fostering is a great way to help GRRAND as it frees up kennel space, helps our dogs rehabilitate and gain social skills making them more adoptable, and gives foster parents tons of love in the process! Fall is great time to foster -- great weather for walks and outside play!

Meet Cyclone

Cyclone is an 8 year old, female Labrador mix weighing about 45lbs. She is looking for a home where she will be the only dog and get all of the attention she can handle.

She is a very smart girl and knows lots of commands and one would think she knows the human language with the words she has learned! Her release word after being told to wait is "tractor pull", when she is to go to her crate, she is told "in your house", and "cookie" when she gets in her crate. She sleeps on the bed at night and is house-trained and crate-trained. She is quite the lap dog too, and when she gets restless, she is told to "settle". This pretty girl does get freaked during storms, and she finds her space to go for comfort, and is there until she is ready to come out.

We are happy to report she is in a foster home and they say:

Cyclone, (we call her Dolly round here as Dolly fits this gentle girl so much better... but for GRRAND records and communications, she is still Cyclone)

Cyclone is a sweetheart who’s happiest in a calm home with her special person. The world can be a little scary for her (cars, busy places, loud noises), but when she’s home? She’s all cuddles, zoomies, and relaxed. Here are a few things about Cyclone:

🐾 Loves snuggles and cozy time
🐾 Zoomies in the yard, especially in the snow ❄️
🐾 Fully housebroken and an excellent communicator
🐾 Tennis balls = yes (retrieving = no 😌)
🐾 A true girly girl who prefers women and good “girly pop” music

Dolly would be perfect for an older adult or anyone looking for a quiet, loving companion. She’s coming out of her shell and has so much love to give.

Think Dolly might be your soulmate? 🐶💗

Meet Hamilton

Hamilton was taken in by GRRAND in 2024 from the Spencer County hoarding situation. There are no records of his age, but we estimate he's about 4 years old. When he first came to GRRAND, he was terrified of people, malnourished, and had papillomas (warts) on his face. This sweet boy has come a long way since then!

Now, he lets volunteers love on him and will even push up next to you for pets and treats. He's never shown any aggression to people or other dogs, and we suspect he might get along with cats, too. He loves to play with other dogs in the play yard and always does his "business" outside, never in his kennel.

Our volunteers are working with Hamilton on leash training, but he has a long way to go. Initially, he'll have to be a dog that stays in the home and yard. We do believe with time, love, and consistent training, he'll be able to go for walks outside the home.

Hamilton is considered a flight risk for now. He will need an above ground and securely fenced yard. He cannot go to a home with small children or anyone who may inadvertently leave a door open. We believe he'll be less of a flight risk once he's comfortable in his new home and with his new family.

Hamilton needs someone with lots of patience who will be committed to helping him grow and work through his insecurities. We think he will do best in a home with another stable dog who can teach him how to be a family pet. Could you be the right home for Hamilton? This sweet boy will reward you handsomely.

If you would like to donate to Hamilton's care, please visit the GOFUNDME link at https://www.gofundme.com/f/rescue-for-dogs-in-deplorable-conditions

Meet BIG BOY!

Hi, I'm Big Boy! I am a gorgeous 90-plus pound cream Lab, and I am absolutely adorable. I came in with my sister 12 months ago and am still waiting for my forever home.

My kennel dad tells me that my time will come and to be patient, but 12 months is a long time! I know someone out there wants a big, sweet, very playful, and absolutely beautiful dog.

Big Boy is a typical handsome Lab who is looking for his forever family through no fault of his own. Unfortunately his people are devastated that they had to surrender him, but they have fallen on some hard times, and came to GRRAND for help. We are told that "Big boy doesn't care for cats. He doesn't hurt them but he will bite the air in their direction as to say "stay away". He loves to be snuggled and touched all the time. He loves to run and is as smart as whip!

Meet Daisy Hill

You guys have been asking about little Daisy Hill and here are some gorgeous pictures to show how much she’s improved. One of our most valued volunteers Rhonda has made an absolute difference in Daisy’s health and appearance! Thank you Rhonda!

TISSUE ALERT! 😢

***Pictures may be hard to look at, but Daisy is on the road to recovery!

Daisy is a small Golden or Goldendoodle at only 30lbs. She was likely dumped as a puppy over 2 yrs ago and has spent her entire life struggling to survive on her own. She has wandered the countryside of Pulaski County, Ky for over 2 yrs, being observed by residents in the area, but never able to be caught. People put food out for her but they knew if they notified authorities about her, she would be picked up and euthanized because of her terrible condition. Residents said that over the years, she had several litters of puppies, but they don’t know what happened to the pups.

Her situation was brought to the attention of GRRAND’s wonderful friend and trapper in the Pulaski County area, Rhonda Wilson. Rhonda wanted to help her, but couldn’t keep Daisy herself so she didn’t want to trap her without somewhere for her to go. Rhonda appealed to us because she thinks so highly of GRRAND and the wonderful homes we have found for other dogs she has rescued. Daisy’s information was shared with a few GRRAND volunteers who offered to take her if Rhonda could trap her. Well… within a couple of days, Rhonda was able to catch Daisy! So many folks who had worried about this little pup were so grateful!

Please consider GRRAND in your legacy plans

Leaving a legacy gift to GRRAND is a meaningful way to ensure that your compassion for dogs continues for generations to come. Planned gifts provide long-term support for our mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome Golden Retrievers, Labrador Retrievers, Doodles, Great Pyrenees, and other at-risk dogs in need of loving homes. Below are several ways you can include GRRAND in your legacy plans:

• Bequests
• Beneficiary Designations
• Charitable Remainder Trusts (CRTs)
• Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs)
• Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs)
• Gifts of Stock

Additionally, GRRAND is committed to caring for every dog we place, for life. Should you pass away before your GRRAND adopted dog, we ask that you include instructions in your will to notify GRRAND so we can rehome your dog with a loving, approved adoptive family. While rehoming is already part of our commitment, a legacy contribution can help offset the costs of transport, veterinary care, and fostering during the transition, allowing us to provide your dog with the same loving care they received when first adopted.

All charitable gifts should be directed to:
PO Box 6132
Louisville, KY 40206
Federal Tax ID: 61-1314499
