Meet RubyThis beautiful girl was rescued from the Spencer County Rescue in September and is now ready to live the good life with her very own family and home. Can you be her hero?Check out the before and after pictures. They are simply amazing! Here is what her foster mom has to say...I wanted to give an update on Ruby. She is learning she can trust me and that a collar and leash is not the end of the world.🤣 We have been taking things a bit slow - baby steps with her due to her fear but she is coming along nicely. She is now crate trained, house broke, (we already know she is good with other dogs), learned how to go up and down stairs, she has been meeting many new people as that was her biggest thing to overcome. She is walking on a leash, starting to play with toys, learning “leave it” which is a big one for her as she tends to try and back out of collar/harness and bite the leash so I am really focusing on that and switching directions often so she is not trying to lead me.I am sooo very proud of her progress!!!What are you waiting for? HATTIE!!!
MAJOR UPDATES - Hattie is now with one of our best fosters and she is starting to come out of her shell.
Here is what her foster mom has to say...
"Hattie is eating and drinking well and reliably. She weighed 61 lbs when she got spayed last week. Obviously still needs to gain weight and particularly needs to gain muscle mass. She is terrified of being on a leash but is tolerating a collar just fine. I am not even taking her outside due to her terror of a leash. I just put pee pads down which she is using. She never makes a sound. Pyrs start to bark when they feel well and feel like they are home. Neither of which Hattie is feeling yet. Her safe spot is her bed. Will go to the vet this Saturday to get the stitches out and she will get her weekly medicated bath for her infections that day also. I hate inflicting such trauma on a feral, terrified dog, but there is no help for it. It is a testament to her temperament that she shows zero fear aggression. Hattie is months away from gaining even a semblance of being a normal dog, but you know what? She has that opportunity now thanks to everyone involved in her rescue, her care and treatment and to GRRAND for agreeing to take her. Instead of weeks if not days away from death, she now has the opportunity to become the dog she was always meant to be."
GRRAND was recently contacted about Hattie, a courageous dog from Columbia, KY, in Adair County. Hattie was found on an abandoned property with approximately 15 other dogs living in dire conditions. The animals sought shelter wherever they could—inside the abandoned house, a barn, or even the remains of a human residence. Hattie’s health was among the worst, requiring immediate intervention.
Currently, Hattie is battling a host of severe health challenges, including anemia, parasitic infections (tapeworms, hookworms, and giardia), three tickborne diseases, and sarcoptic mange. At just 18% blood levels, she underwent a life-saving transfusion and remains un
Meet Elli
She is a little over a year old, 80ish lb, Great Pyrenees mix who was sadly surrendered by her family because the other dogs in the family were attacking her. Amazingly, she still loves all dogs and want to play with them and she still has plenty of puppy energy!
Elli is in a foster home now and her foster mom shared that ‘Elli is a sweet, happy-go-lucky girl that loves all people and dogs. She gives a Pyrenees warning bark when someone new comes in the house, but immediately comes to them for pets. She plays hard – will pounce and use her paws to bat the other dogs, so may not do well with small dogs or older dogs. Elli also loves to ‘bite wrestle’ and will roll around playing in the house with her foster brother until he’s had enough.
Elli is fully house trained and when I say ‘let’s go outside’, she runs to the back door. She will also stand by the door when she needs to go out. She was crated her first night here and quietly laid in the crate watching me until I finished getting ready. Since she’s on the large size (about 80 pounds), I’ve also let her sleep free in the bedroom so that she can stretch out with no issues. She will roam so I keep her in a contained area at night. She sleeps part of the night on a chaise, part on the floor, and part in the crate.
Her personality is that of a big live teddy bear! Very affectionate, very loving, loves to get and give attention and be petted and loves to be around people. She will do great in a home if she is able to socialize with other animals and or people. (but no chickens or turkeys)
Elli loves to go for walks and does pretty well on a leash. She stands quietly to put her harness on and then runs to the door. She generally walks on my side when walking alone but does get distracted by sniffing. She will also lean into my legs when something scares her. When she walks with her foster brother, she wants to be along his side and will pull to get close to him.

HATTIE IS ON THE ROAD TO RECOVERY!!!
It shouldn’t be long before Ms. Hattie will be able to go to a foster where she will be well loved and receive much needed TLC!
GRRAND SUPPORTERS ARE PAWSOME!
We wanted to share this video from #littlebrowndogproductions of highlights from the Grrand Affair and GRRAND Central Station.
Thanks to everyone who made the GRRAND Affair a great success this year. It was an exciting night with remarkable bidding, food, drink, friends, music, and fun! We are grateful to everyone who helped us plan and present Paw-sibilities - Healing Bodies & Souls. Live and silent auction donations, ticket sales, monetary and in-kind donations, volunteers, and of course the presence of our 4-legged rescue ambassadors made the event the crème de la crème.
When all the numbers are in, we will share the impact of this event with you. We believe your donations and participation will translate into a significant asset for GRRAND’s 2024 rescued dogs.
Sincerely,
The GRRAND Affair Committee &
GRRAND Board of Directors
