GRRAND Golden Retriever Rescue & Adoption of Needy Dogs (GRRAND) - Greater Louisville, KY, Greater Lexington, KY & Greater Cincinnati Area.
(1)

GRRAND is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Since our inception in 1994, we’ve rescued and re-homed more than 5,000 Golden Retrievers and mixed breed dogs. Averaging around 200-300 intakes per year, our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home dogs that have been abandoned, abused, or neglected along with those who are the victims of changed life circumstances such as finan

cial hardship, divorce, allergies, relocation, illness, or death. The medical resources and cost required to rescue one dog are vast, ranging from basic vaccinations and medical tests to heartworm treatment and surgeries. We rely on adoption fees, donations, and fundraising so that we never have to say no to a dog in need.

Meet Dantes

Dantes ( from Count of Monte Cristo) is a 4 year old, about 50ish lb, male Golden Retriever mix looking for a home where he can get more attention and direction than he is currently getting now. His family has had some life changes that have caused this difficult decision for them, but they feel it is best for Dantes to be re-homed.

Dantes is house-trained and crate-trained, and needs supervision when roaming around as he will get into things. He is in his crate for eating and when his person leaves.

His people say: "He is the happiest most loving dog I have ever had. He is beyond sweet. Easy to care for and groom. Loves to play ball and get pets and love. A real snuggle buddy. He will chew shoes and maybe some wood furniture if left alone. That's why I put him in the crate when I am gone. He hasn't chewed on the furniture in a long time. He is a happy boy that has a lot of energy and would love an active person to to run and walk and play ball with him. He loves hugs and will jump up. But he is very trainable for someone with fewer dogs and time. I don't have small children around but I think he would be great with kids as he loves everyone he meets. He gets along great with my other dogs and plays well. He is very gentle with my little schnoodle but gives the cattle dog a run for his money. Dantes tends to follow the other dogs and bark or act up when my cattle dog does. He can be reactive on the leash around other dogs and honestly needs more leash training than I was able to give to him. As he does live with other dogs, they can not have any chew toys out as it results in confrontations. Dante's has a tendency to get urinary stones. He is on a special food and treats. No people food or regular dog food at all."

Meet Ginger "Snap"

Ginger is a 7 year old, 70ish lb, female beautiful Labrador who was sadly re-homed at no fault of her own, due to a change in her family situation.

We are sad to say, that Ginger is now in a Hospice care foster home as she has been diagnosed with osteosarcoma, and even with the pain she loves people. It’s heartbreaking for her. She also has a torn ACL, and this girl deserves to live her best life. We are asking for donations to help with Ginger's medical care to help keep her as happy and comfortable as we can. She is getting lots of love, attention and TLC in her foster home as this is what she was needing all along.

Our GRRAND volunteer who helped transport Ginger says: "I could tell Ginger is a sweet, fun, cuddly lab from the get go. She rode well in a crate in my car. Once we arrived at the GRRAND kennel, Ginger ran in our field but came back for snuggles and belly rubs. She likes treats and playing with frisbees. According to her former owner, she loves to swim. Ginger is energetic and athletic but is not overwhelming in any way. Ginger Snap is beautiful, sweet, and loving."

Her family tells us "Ginger is a loving dog to people and other dogs and she is smart but just needs more attention than we can give her right now. She gets excited to see people and will settle down when given love and attention. She needs more exercise and and direction than she has been given, and is just a dog starved for non-stop people attention and interaction. She needs more play time as well and would love to get that from a family with older kids, as she jumps up on you. But with more people around and constant interaction, she will calm down. Ginger loves frisbee and the pool.", please fill out an app at https://www.wagtopia.com/search/pet?id=2421907&name=Ginger

Meet Echo

Echo is a 4 month old female Great Pyrenees/Anatolian Shepherd mix who was rescued from a farm where she was an outside dog with no socialization and no human interaction, so her rescuer wanted her to have a chance of having a home and contacted GRRAND. She is only about 45lbs now, but she will grow to be a big girl.

Echo will be looking for a home with a secure fenced in yard as the Great Pyr and Anatolian Shepherd breeds are Large Guardian Dogs and like to roam and patrol their property and this is best done in a safe and secure environment. This sweet girl is house-trained, and gets along well with other dogs and cats. The woman who rescued her says: "Echo had a lonely start, but she has grown leaps and bounds at my house and loves her freedom on the farm and loves other dogs. She has come out of her shell and has confidence and is always happy. I believe she would do best having another dog as company as she loves all of her friends around here.

Her new family will need to have the time and patience to work with her and give her the exercise and direction she needs to be a good girl.

We are still learning about Echo, so please check back later for more info, but if you would like to meet this pretty girl, please fill out an app at https://www.wagtopia.com/search/pet?id=2514850&name=Echo

Meet Sabrina

Sabrina is a 2 month old, female Golden Retriever/Great Pyrenees mix puppy who loves attention and belly rubs. Loves all other dogs, cats, and hoomans! She is full of energy and lots of LOVE!

She has made a fast friend of Natalie Anne who is also up for adoption.

She is looking for a home that abides by the GRRAND puppy guidelines:

Puppies are a lot of work, and if you are interested in Sabrina and have children, you should check out GRRAND policies page before you read further...

A: GRRAND will NOT place a puppy under the age of 6 months with families with children under 6 yrs old

B: Any applicant with children under the age of 16, will require a home with direct access to a securely fenced yard… so this means no apartments or condos

Apartments and condos can also be tricky for adult only households, as puppies can be whiny and loud, and may make too much noise for the neighbors as well

She will be looking for a home with a fenced in yard and a family with lots of time and patience to socialize and work with a puppy so she can grow up to be a good dog! Exercise and direction are a must as a tired puppy is a good puppy!! Puppies have boundless amounts of playful energy and need a constant outlet for it! They just eat, p*e, p**p, play and repeat ALL DAY!!! It is a lot of fun, but it is a lot of work, and if you don't have time for all of that, a small puppy may not be for you!

Along with that wonderful puppy breath, comes those razor sharp puppy teeth too, so families must understand there needs to be constant supervision as children need to learn to respect an animal and puppies need to learn boundaries.
