GRRAND

GRRAND Golden Retriever Rescue & Adoption of Needy Dogs (GRRAND) - Greater Louisville, KY, Greater Lexington, KY & Greater Cincinnati Area.

GRRAND is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Since our inception in 1994, we’ve rescued and re-homed more than 5,000 Golden Retrievers and mixed breed dogs. Averaging around 200-300 intakes per year, our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home dogs that have been abandoned, abused, or neglected along with those who are the victims of changed life circumstances such as finan

cial hardship, divorce, allergies, relocation, illness, or death. The medical resources and cost required to rescue one dog are vast, ranging from basic vaccinations and medical tests to heartworm treatment and surgeries. We rely on adoption fees, donations, and fundraising so that we never have to say no to a dog in need.

Meet Shelby

This beautiful boy was rescued from the Spencer County Rescue in September and is now ready to live the good life with his very own family and home. Can you be his hero?

A beacon of hope shines bright as GRRAND and animal advocates across the commonwealth collaborate to help rescue animals trapped in a devastating hoarding situation on a rural County Kentucky farm. Advocates eagerly await justice for the abused animals and the swift rescue of those still suffering in inhumane conditions.

It's awful to think of the terrible lives and abuse they have been subjected to. A litter of 4 week old puppies were found on the property and all had to be treated at the Emergency Vet for Parvo to save their lives and sadly, one did not make it. We have extremely high vet expenses for these dogs and really need ongoing donations to pay for all their care and we are also in desperate need of foster homes for these dogs.

As we continue to assess the individual needs of these deserving animals, additional information to come, so please check back for more updates... This is Shelby and he is believed to be Golden/Great Pyr/Lab mix, and he is ready for his forever family. He will need a home with an above ground securely fenced yard as she is considered a flight risk due to lack of socialization and human love. He will need a family with the time and patience to work with her through any insecurities she may have.

Meet Larue

This beautiful girl was rescued from the Spencer County Rescue in September and is now ready to live the good life with her very own family and home. Can you be her hero?

We are happy to say she is in a foster home with a comfy bed, a warm onsie, and a family who is offering her any love she will take. They say:

Hello all, we're pleased to introduce Larue, who is one of the rural County hoarding dogs. Larue is an older gal (thought to be a Golden/Lab/Great Pyr mix) who lived in horrendous conditions and suffered years of neglect. She has had several litters of puppies and while she is super sweet, sadly she was super scared of the world, but has really come out of her shell.

Afraid at first, Larue has blossomed since her rescue. She's dog-friendly, house-trained, crate-trained, an excellent companion and just an all around great pup. While leash training remains ongoing, significant strides have been made.

Watching her grow is delightful. Given her background, we're impressed with Larue's resilience. She's discovering her canine nature, and it's heartwarming.

Larue is spayed and fully vetted, making her completely ready to be your new family member. All Larue wants is a family, and we hope she finds one soon.

It was discovered at her vet appointment she had a tumor on her spleen so she is also recovering from spleen removal, spay, and a mammary tumor removal. GRRAND needs donations to care for these dogs as almost all of the dogs that have been taken from that property are sick, so please donate to help them if you can!"

Larue will be looking for a home that has a secure above ground fenced yard, as she has never been socialized and is considered a flight risk. Her new family will need to be committed to having the time to work with her through her fears and insecurities, as this will take time.

What are you waiting for? Visit https://www.wagtopia.com/search/pet?id=2180220&name=Larue+ to adopt this beautiful girl!

Meet Dewey

Dewey is an 8 year old, very laid back and overweight (106ish lbs) senior Golden who sadly is being surrendered due to the fact his current family can not financially care for him and feel he needs a home who can give him more time and attention.

They say: "Dewey is a very friendly and silly dog, and has been good with older kids and other dogs/cats. (GRRAND has NOT cat tested Dewey) He is extremely food oriented and needs more exercise than he gets."

He is house-trained and has full run of the house when his people are away.

We are still learning about Dewey, so please check back for more info, but if you would like to meet him, please fill out an app at https://www.wagtopia.com/search/pet?id=2298076&name=Dewey

Meet Laurel

This sweet and beautiful girl has experienced a life time of pain and neglect that no living creature should ever endure! What she needs more than anything now is a calm and loving home to give her the love and compassion she always deserved!

Meet Jazzman

We are still learning about this sweet pup but here is what we know so far...

Jazzman is a 9 month old, 40ish lb, Great Pyrenees/Lab mix looking for a family that has a secure above ground fenced yard (as she is considered a flight risk, and needs a safe space to go outside) and who is going to be committed to having the time and patience to help her through her insecurities and fears. Jazzman was surrendered to GRRAND in not good health, and very unsocialized. We are still learning about Jazzman, but we feel she could benefit from another confident and stable dog in the home who can help build her confidence and show her the ropes. She is said to have lived with a cat, but GRRAND has not cat tested her. She is in a GRRAND kennel and has not made any messes in her run and they say she is very slow to warm up to new people, but with a few yummy treats and patience, she comes around.

Her new family will need to understand her anxieties and fears will take time to diminish, and compassion and dedication to helping her grow and learn what love and direction are about, will be the most rewarding thing for all involved. She has had no training and minimal care in general, so she is starting out new.

What are you waiting for? Just go get this sweet girl, https://www.wagtopia.com/search/pet?id=2074376&name=Jazzman

Meet Ross

"Do you believe that when one door closes that another one opens? I sure do, and I hope you come walking through my door soon..."

Hi! I'm Ross and I am looking for an adult only home where I would be the center of your world.

There's a lot of debate as to my DNA, but my kennel guy thinks I'm a Golden/Duck Toller/Collie mix! But I don't care - I'm adorable whatever I am - just look at my pictures!!! I'm six-years-old and a I have been at GRRAND for 4 of those years. But I'm happy, love to walk, play on our agility equipment, and entertain my kennel people with my zoomies! I'm now working with a trainer. I'm teaching him how to pet me all over without me getting agitated - he's doing well and says I can go to a forever home soon. My kennel people love me and treat me so well that I'll hate to leave them, but 4 years in a kennel is a long time, and I'm really hoping someone will find it in their heart to take me home so I can snuggle and watch TV!

I hate to brag but I am house-trained and I walk pretty well on a leash if I do say so myself!

What are you waiting for? Just visit https://www.wagtopia.com/search/pet?id=870072&name=Ross and come and get me!

Meet Tess

Here is what her foster family has to say....

"The vet says she is mostly Labrador retriever. She plays like a puppy and is very gentle when bringing you a toy or ball. She has the biggest, warmest grin and smiles up at you when you talk to her. She soaks up love and it’s impossible not to rub her soft head when she looks up at you. She seems to trust people and other dogs. She does bark when our other two dogs start a bark-fest but two or three deep chuffs and she’s done. She doesn’t love going in her crate but will chase a treat in and then rests quietly once she is settled. She seems to want relationships with us and our other animals and she is so smart she has already learned to communicate with us clearly. She will be such a good friend to someone. We have been working on house/potty training and she is learning so fast! Tess is always on the move but stays with us anytime we are out. She responds to “no” well. She is used to following commands outside but is still learning indoor manners. She is a fast learner and wants to do a good job! She is very strong and would not be a good fit for someone who is at risk for falling. She will also not do well if left alone for long periods of time so would probably work better in a work-from-home household.

Her favorite treat so far is little pieces of beef hot dog, which will convince her to do even the things she hates. No matter how much attention we give her she is ready for more, but grateful for any. Such a sweet girl! She doesn’t seem to be bothered by or afraid of anything!

What are you waiting for? Please fill out an application at www.grrand.org/adopt to give this deserving girl a forever home.

Meet Dove

Dove is a 16 month old, 35ish lb, Chocolate Lab who was "used" as a breeder dog, and is so needing a very special family. When they were "finished" with her, she was placed with a young woman who was told by the breeder that she was a little timid, but would come around in a few days. As we know with unsocialized breeder dogs, that’s not the way it works! Dove is going to need another stable/confident dog in the home, an above ground fenced yard and an experienced adult household with folks who are willing to put the time and patience into working with her. She is most comfortable around other dogs and another stable dog in the home, can help with her adjustments and confidence building.

She is going to need TIME... LOTS OF TIME! And PATIENCE... LOTS OF PATIENCE. Dogs like Dove who have never known love and affection from people, have to work through everything on their own time... not ours. We are still learning about Dove, but if you have had any experience with dogs like Dove, and you think you are the one to help her, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org

What are you waiting for? Please visit https://www.wagtopia.com/search/pet?id=2222361&name=Dove to adopt this sweet girl!

Meet Faith

This beautiful girl is Faith... Faith was one of the breeder dogs that was rescued from horrid conditions from the Amish puppy mill rescue in early Dec.

**** Faith continues to be extremely unsocialized at this time, and the type of home she is needing is not just your typical home. There are quite a few MUST HAVES for her and they are: MUST have someone who is experienced in helping unsocialized breeder dogs transition from the kennel situation to a home. This is NOT just for anyone, as the time and patience put into helping to rehabilitate these dogs is huge. She also MUST have another stable dog, MUST have a secure above ground fenced yard with direct access to the yard from the house, MUST have someone home more than the typical working family, and a home with NO kids under the age of 16.

We know we need to get her out of the kennel so she can begin her new journey in life. She needs to find a forever family or foster family that is excited to show her what love and compassion are about. Faith is going to take time... things can not be rushed for her. As said above, she is going to need to have a stable dog living in the home so they can show her the ropes and help build her confidence in everything, especially people. Faith is considered a flight risk, and will need a home with a secure above ground fenced yard with direct access to the yard from the home. We do not know how she will be with kids and or chaos, so a home with no kids under the age of 16 is best and we do not know how she is with cats at this time.

The training is going to cost $6000+, and that's with significant discounts. If you can't help with fostering or adoption right now, perhaps you would like to contribute to their training fees: https://www.gofundme.com/f/emergency-puppy-mill-rescue

Meet Webster

This handsome boy was rescued from the Spencer County Rescue in September and is now ready to live the good life with his very own family and home. Can you be his hero?

Here is what his foster mom has to say....

"What does it take to unlock a dog's full potential? For Webster, one of the Spencer Co. dogs it was love, care, and patience. This shy neutered one year old boy has evolved into a happy, outgoing companion, exceling in leash walks, stairs, and crate training. Housebroken and car-ready, Webster loves dogs of all sizes and has won over children and adults alike. Now, he seeks a home with a confident dog and patient family to continue his growth. He is ready to bring joy to his new family."

Meet Tyg (Tygrys)

PLEASE SHARE THIS POST FAR & WIDE. TYG DESERVES HIS HAPPILY EVER AFTER!

Sadly, Tyg has been at the GRRAND kennel for over a year. The kennel volunteers recently had a pool party to celebrate Tyg's one-year anniversary at the kennel - he got to swim, eat doggie cake, and of course, get dressed up!

Tyg is a 5-year-old Anatolian Shepherd/Belgian Malinois mix who came to GRRAND in 2019 as a 3-month-old puppy. He was adopted by a couple who sadly had to return him in June 2023 due to unforeseen circumstances. He was so sad and would sit by the fence looking for his people to return. He is now settled at the kennel and is certainly a volunteer favorite! Once he decides you are okay, you will be his best bud - but it takes him a while to warm up to new people.

He will try and squeeze his 100+ lb body on a chair with you for hugs and kisses. The volunteers love to dress him up and he never complains; the perfect model! He loves the pool and gets to go for a swim every day in the summer. He is very well trained on the leash and loves to go for walks, but he does have a tendency to lunge at large trucks and vans so he needs a strong hand to keep him under control.

Tyg is a special boy. He is extremely sweet, loyal and protective of his people. We believe it's best for Tyg to go to a home with an experienced dog owner, no other pets and no children, ideally with a large fenced yard he can patrol, and few outside visitors. Please open your heart and home for this wonderful boy. He will repay you with an abundance of love and loyalty.

Meet Roger (Ranger)

DESPERATELY NEEDING A FOSTER OR FOREVER FAMILY!!! Don't Roger's sweet eyes call to you? Roger's dad is having serious health issues and we are hopeful a family will step up to help Roger AND his family!

Do you have room in your heart and home for a senior pup?

Here is what Roger's Family has to say about him...

Roger is an 8 year old, 75ish lb Lab mix who is sadly looking for a home where he can spend his senior years!

His owner has health issues which are causing the sad decision to rehome Roger. He needs a home with no kids under the age of 16, as he tends to be a resource guarder when he has something in his mouth and someone tries to get it from him, so dog savvy owners would be best for this handsome boy. His people say "We really want Roger to go to a good family that can love him and give him the proper care and exercise he truly needs and wants. We had to downsize and now we don't have a fenced yard for him to run around in, so he is full of energy and we cannot get out with him the way he needs and he does not get many walks. He really needs a yard to run in, with space to spread out, be free and play, and we can not provide that for him. On walks, he can bark at the wildlife, and cars and bikes, so we all really miss the fenced yard we used to have for him".

His people also tell GRRAND: "He is a sweet dog and just loves to be around me, loves to get affection and be petted, and follows me from room to room! Roger lets me know when people are at the house because he gets so excited and he barks a bit when they come in, but settles down quickly and melts into the background after about 5 minutes. He is very well house trained and has never had an accident in the house, and he will bark and let me know when he needs to go out or when he needs/wants something".

He used to have a doggie companion who passed away and he is said to miss his friend and is lonely.

What are you waiting for? Just visit https://www.wagtopia.com/search/pet?id=2004235&name=Roger+(Ranger) and come and get me!
