GRRAND Golden Retriever Rescue & Adoption of Needy Dogs (GRRAND) - Greater Louisville, KY, Greater Lexington, KY & Greater Cincinnati Area.
(1)

GRRAND is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Since our inception in 1994, we’ve rescued and re-homed more than 5,000 Golden Retrievers and mixed breed dogs. Averaging around 200-300 intakes per year, our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home dogs that have been abandoned, abused, or neglected along with those who are the victims of changed life circumstances such as finan

cial hardship, divorce, allergies, relocation, illness, or death. The medical resources and cost required to rescue one dog are vast, ranging from basic vaccinations and medical tests to heartworm treatment and surgeries. We rely on adoption fees, donations, and fundraising so that we never have to say no to a dog in need.

Urgent Plea for Action!

Warning this video contains images of severe neglect!

Courtesy post.

GRRAND was contacted by Anderson County Animal Control last night regarding their seizure of 40 dogs from a hoarding situation. These dogs had been extremely neglected and likely would have perished on the property they were found on if a kind stranger hadn't reported this horrible situation to the authorities. As you can see from the video many of these dogs are extremely emaciated but nonetheless eager to have the attention and affection they have always deserved. Our GRRAND volunteer that went to the shelter today to assess bringing 2 of the dogs into the program had a hard time holding back the tears at the horrific physical condition of some of these pups.

Thankfully 9 of the yorkie pups will be taken in by another rescue and should be picked up by Monday. GRRAND has agreed to take the Golden Retriever who has been tethered to a chain for the entirety of her life and the extremely emaciated male Great Pyrenees.

The young lab mix puppy you see in the crate was on her way to the emergency vet as she seems to be in shock from unexplainable injuries and blood loss. We are still waiting to hear if she is going to make it. She was left on the back of the property and was finally found after the Anderson County Animal Control officers searched for hours. We are praying that she makes it.

The remaining pups appear to be hounds and or lab/hound mixes. Our volunteer can attest they were all extremely friendly even though they have endured so much.

How can you help?

Can you recommend other rescues?

Can you foster?

Would you be willing to adopt?

If you can help at all please message us on socials so we can put you in touch with the kind people at Anderson County Animal Control. We and they fear that if they can't get these dogs out of their overcapacity shelter their outcome will not be secure. While these dogs are not GRRAND dogs we want to do everything possible to help them and the kindhearted (overworked) animal control officers who are begging for the community's help.

URGENT PLEA FOR FOSTERS!

Fall Into Fostering!

Do you have room in your heart and home to foster a dog in need?

GRRAND has been rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming dogs since 1996. Unfortunately, presently we have more dogs in need than room to accept and are looking for loving homes to foster some of our sweet dogs while they await their forever homes.

Fostering is a great way to help GRRAND as it frees up kennel space, helps our dogs rehabilitate and gain social skills making them more adoptable, and gives foster parents tons of love in the process! Fall is great time to foster -- great weather for walks and outside play!

Meet Opie

Opie is a 2 year old, 100ish lb, gorgeous male Black Lab on the hunt for his forever family. He is being rehomed as we are told: "I recently took Opie in, as he was rescued from a flood, and he’s so sweet and super good with people and kids."

Our GRRAND volunteer says: "Opie is an athletic, curious, and very friendly full sized Black Lab. He will not jump on you for attention but will stand quietly by your side, waiting to be petted, then he will go off to sniff and explore, checking back with you every few minutes. Opie loves people and is said to be afraid of cats and steers clear of them. Opie was originally found as a stray, then lived mostly outdoors so we are not sure about his behavior indoors, though all signs point positively to him responding with eagerness to please and to the consistency of training." Opie does not actively seek out other dogs nor seems to pay attention to them

He is crate-trained and house-trained and is said to walk well on leash. Opie will need a home where he will get lots of exercise and direction from his people and he would benefit from training with his new family. We are still learning about Opie, so please check back for more info, but if you would like to meet him, please fill out an app at https://www.wagtopia.com/search/pet?id=2465268&name=Opie+%236102

Meet Betty & Traveler

Betty (3 years old) and her dad Traveler (4 years old) are a beautiful bonded pair of Goldens that were rescued from living in a tin hut and were tethered to the hut outdoors in sad living conditions. They are very new to GRRAND but what we were told by our GRRAND transport volunteer that: "Traveler likes to regally lay on the ground and Betty likes to sit up next to him (like the best Holiday card picture ever). They are very sweet and like to be petted. Before loading them into my car, I sat in their kennel with them and they just ate up the affection. Traveler would kiss my hand if I stopped petting him. Traveler and Betty are timid, unsure, and scared of their environs, but seem very trusting of people. We are told they like to be with and play with other dogs. Traveler has a smile that looks like a growly face, but it really is a smile and is his way of showing his gratitude for snuggles."

They are currently going through long term heartworm treatments, so a calmer home with not a lot of chaos would be best for them.

They will need a family that has the time and patience to support them and help them through all of the adjustments of being in a new environment, and help them work through their fears and insecurities. As they are scared and timid, they will need a home with a secure above ground fenced yard to keep them safe and contained. We can't wait until Betty and Traveler get to experience a warm and loving home, a nice plushy bed, dog toys and ALL of the good things dogs are supposed to have in their lives with us. The GRRAND kennel staff will update as they get better acquainted, but if you would like to be that family to open up your hearts and home to them and get them out of the kennel, please fill out an app at https://www.wagtopia.com/search/pet?id=2470060&name=Betty+Hart or https://www.wagtopia.com/search/pet?id=2469750&name=Traveler+Hart
