GRRAND

GRRAND Golden Retriever Rescue & Adoption of Needy Dogs (GRRAND) - Greater Louisville, KY, Greater Lexington, KY & Greater Cincinnati Area.

GRRAND is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Since our inception in 1994, we’ve rescued and re-homed more than 5,000 Golden Retrievers and mixed breed dogs. Averaging around 200-300 intakes per year, our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home dogs that have been abandoned, abused, or neglected along with those who are the victims of changed life circumstances such as finan

cial hardship, divorce, allergies, relocation, illness, or death. The medical resources and cost required to rescue one dog are vast, ranging from basic vaccinations and medical tests to heartworm treatment and surgeries. We rely on adoption fees, donations, and fundraising so that we never have to say no to a dog in need.

Meet Harry

This guy has made so much progress and really needs to find his forever home. Can you be his hero?

Here is what his foster mom has to say...

Harry is doing really well in our foster home, he has won over all the humans hearts in the week he’s been here, he is tolerated by one feline, the other remains elusive to him. It took him a full day to get the lay of the land and explore the common areas, day two he gained the courage to walk down the hallway, by day three he was visiting every room. He is so very brave after all he has been through. He really enjoys being outside, chasing the birds and munching on leaves, he overcame the stairs very quickly and goes in and out without issues. He doesn’t quite understand the difference between humans and dogs, and tries to play with us like we are dogs. He is great about meeting new people in a safe space, he doesn’t bark or shy away. He will sometimes back away from being pet but generally accepts any love he gets, hopefully soon he will have enough confidence to request pets and rubs. He adores children, our boys are 4 and 5, he follows them around and wants to be close to them. He has not had any accidents in the house so I would call him fully housebroken. He did great in the car, no whining or barking, although he was scared. He is crate trained, he does not whine or barking while in the crate and walks in voluntarily, it’s become his safe space (although the cats do like to challenge him occasionally and he is fine with that). He sleeps in his crate all night and wakes up slowly and calm in the morning, he doesn’t run straight to the door. He is not protective over food or toys in any way, not with cats, children or adults. He LOVES cats, but respects their cues, he wants them to love him so badly.

Meet Larue

This beautiful girl was rescued from the Spencer County Rescue in September and is now ready to live the good life with her very own family and home. Can you be her hero?

We are happy to say she is in a foster home with a comfy bed, a warm onsie, and a family who is offering her any love she will take. They say:

Hello all, we're pleased to introduce Larue, who is one of the rural County hoarding dogs. Larue is an older gal (thought to be a Golden/Lab/Great Pyr mix) who lived in horrendous conditions and suffered years of neglect. She has had several litters of puppies and while she is super sweet, sadly she was super scared of the world, but has really come out of her shell.

Afraid at first, Larue has blossomed since her rescue. She's dog-friendly, house-trained, crate-trained, an excellent companion and just an all around great pup. While leash training remains ongoing, significant strides have been made.

Watching her grow is delightful. Given her background, we're impressed with Larue's resilience. She's discovering her canine nature, and it's heartwarming.

Larue is spayed and fully vetted, making her completely ready to be your new family member. All Larue wants is a family, and we hope she finds one soon.

It was discovered at her vet appointment she had a tumor on her spleen so she is also recovering from spleen removal, spay, and a mammary tumor removal. GRRAND needs donations to care for these dogs as almost all of the dogs that have been taken from that property are sick, so please donate to help them if you can!"

Larue will be looking for a home that has a secure above ground fenced yard, as she has never been socialized and is considered a flight risk. Her new family will need to be committed to having the time to work with her through her fears and insecurities, as this will take time.

What are you waiting for? Visit https://www.wagtopia.com/search/pet?id=2180220&name=Larue+ to adopt this beautiful girl!

Meet Leslie

This beautiful girl was rescued from the Spencer County Rescue in September and is now ready to live the good life with her very own family and home. Can you be her hero?

Here is what her foster mom has to say about her progress...

"We’ve been addressing their fears and teaching basic skills like leash watching and navigating stairs. As they’ve never been socialized or shown love."

A beacon of hope shines bright as GRRAND and animal advocates across the commonwealth collaborate to help rescue animals trapped in a devastating rural County Kentucky farm. Advocates eagerly await justice for the abused animals and the swift rescue of those still suffering in inhumane conditions.

It's awful to think of the terrible lives and abuse they have been subjected to. A litter of 4 week old puppies were found on the property and all had to be treated at the Emergency Vet for Parvo to save their lives and sadly, one did not make it. We have extremely high vet expenses for these dogs and really need ongoing donations to pay for all their care and we are also in desperate need of foster homes for these dogs.

As we continue to assess the individual needs of these deserving animals, additional information to come, so please check back for more updates... This is Laurel and she will need a home with an above ground securely fenced yard as he has ever been on leash and remains very fearful of people and is considered a flight risk at this time. Kennel staff says: Leslie, is a very sweet yet timid girl who will take treats and will let me pet her, but still very timid.

Meet Hattie

MAJOR UPDATES - Hattie is now with one of our best fosters and she is starting to come out of her shell.

Here is what her foster mom has to say...

"Hattie is eating and drinking well and reliably. She weighed 61 lbs when she got spayed last week. Obviously still needs to gain weight and particularly needs to gain muscle mass. She is terrified of being on a leash but is tolerating a collar just fine. I am not even taking her outside due to her terror of a leash. I just put p*e pads down which she is using. She never makes a sound. Pyrs start to bark when they feel well and feel like they are home. Neither of which Hattie is feeling yet. Her safe spot is her bed. Will go to the vet this Saturday to get the stitches out and she will get her weekly medicated bath for her infections that day also. I hate inflicting such trauma on a feral, terrified dog, but there is no help for it. It is a testament to her temperament that she shows zero fear aggression. Hattie is months away from gaining even a semblance of being a normal dog, but you know what? She has that opportunity now thanks to everyone involved in her rescue, her care and treatment and to GRRAND for agreeing to take her. Instead of weeks if not days away from death, she now has the opportunity to become the dog she was always meant to be."
GRRAND was recently contacted about Hattie, a courageous dog from Columbia, KY, in Adair County. Hattie was found on an abandoned property with approximately 15 other dogs living in dire conditions. The animals sought shelter wherever they could—inside the abandoned house, a barn, or even the remains of a human residence. Hattie’s health was among the worst, requiring immediate intervention.

Currently, Hattie is battling a host of severe health challenges, including anemia, parasitic infections (tapeworms, hookworms, and giardia), three tickborne diseases, and sarcoptic mange. At just 18% blood levels, she underwent a life-saving transfusion and remains under constant care. Her delicate condition means she cannot yet receive a bath, as her fragile skin is covered in scab-like layers. Despite her struggles, Hattie is showing signs of resilience—eating, drinking, and cautiously exploring her new foster home.

Efforts to rescue other dogs from the property are ongoing, with three more in critical condition expected to join Hattie soon. While their stories are heartbreaking, they are not without hope. With the continued support of the GRRAND community, Hattie and her companions will receive the care they desperately need. Thank you for being a part of their journey to healing.

Meet C.C.

C.C. is looking for an adventure-loving family to devote herself to and who are devoted to her!

CC is approximately 4-5 years old and is a strong 65lbish medium to high energy Doodle. She would do best in a home with a similarly-sized playful dog (she’s fine with small dogs but has a play style that may be too rough for them), no cats, an above-ground fenced yard, and no kids under the age of 16.

Likes: Long walks on the beach (or through the woods, or along the river), playing in the water, and wrestling with another similarly-sized playful dog.

Dislikes: Overstimulating, chaotic environments (like breweries or festivals) and not getting to choose her own friends (she’s a lady! - let her have a proper 1:1 introduction rather than the feeding frenzy of a doggy daycare or dog park!).

What are you waiting for? Visit https://www.wagtopia.com/search/pet?id=1483097&name=CC to adopt C.C.

A home in Greater Cincinnati is preferred so Alicia can work with you on CC’s transition (yes! direct access to the behavioral trainer who knows CC intimately!), but the perfect home outside of this area will be considered.

Be Prepared for the Possible Upcoming Snow Event in Louisville, Lexington & Cincinnati

What drivers can do:

Slow down, don’t rush – approach roads with caution, as they may be icy and slippery
Plan ahead – give yourself ample to time, by at least doubling the time it usually takes to get there during normal weather

Look out for snow plows and give our Snow Team room to work – Snow plows are big and bulky, and sudden maneuvers around them create additional hazards

Weather Updates are not our usual posts but this forecasted storm warrants sharing this important information...

Winter Storm Blair LG&E and KU Update/Info

• We have full crews ready to respond safely and as quickly possible to any issues created by Winter Storm Blair.
• More than 1000 crew and restoration personnel are immediately available across our service area to protect the public, respond to emergency situations, assess and repair damage, and ultimately restore impacted customers safely and as quickly as possible.
• We have more than 40 crew centers across the state and are able to strategically position and redirect those resources to areas where they’re needed most.
• We also have reserved staging areas in Louisville and Lexington for outside restoration resources that can immediately be operational in the event system damage caused by Winter Storm Blair requires additional assistance.
Downed Wire, Public Safety:
• Safety is our top priority and we’ve already begun communicating preparedness and safety messaging with the public through the news media, social media and our website. This will continue during and after the event.
• As always, we urge the public to stay away from downed lines – and to always assume they could be energized and report them to us immediately.
• LG&E customers
502-589-1444 or 800-331-7370 (fast path 1-1-3)
• KU/ODP customers
800-981-0600 (fast path 1-1-2)
• We have a variety of public safety resources available on our website, including, but not limited to:
o Portable Generator Safety
o Service Connection Safety
o Preparedness Tips
More from Ready.gov
o Electric Safety During An Outage
o Natural Gas Safety (For LG&E Customers)
• With the forecasted weather, driving conditions could be extremely hazardous for the public.
• The public is also reminded to please limit travel to what’s necessary when snow and ice are on the roads, and to give our crews – as well as other essential response personnel – plenty of room to safely navigate hazards, as weather, traffic and road conditions can alsoimpact our crews’ ability to timely access and maneuver equipment in and around problem areas.
Outage Tracking and Reporting Tools:
• Our online outage map will have the most up-to-date estimated restoration times for outages as they become available based on direct feedback from our crews in the field.
• Customers can access our online outage map at stormcenter.lge-ku.com or through our mobile app.
o An important caveat is that each outage job is different and presents its own unique challenges for our crews, which is why estimated restoration times can vary by customer and are determined based on direct feedback from our crews in the field.
o As we assess damages safely and as quickly as possible, we will establish area-wide, or “global,” estimated restoration times when we expect to have power restored for the majority of customers in an area.
• Customers can report outages quickly and easily through our mobile app, by text or online. Visit lge-ku.com/outagesfor more information on all the ways you can report and receive information on your outage.
Restoration Process Overview:
• Service restorations take place through a prioritization process that involves several different layers. While we work to restore customers’ service, we’ll also use our ability to reroute power when we can from our control center, coupled with automated controls installed on our system, to limit the number of customers affected. During the restoration process:
o First, we’ll restore critical services in our community - hospitals, fire and police stations, airports and nursing homes.
o Next, we restore as many customers as we can as safely and quickly as possible.
o Then, we repair any damaged equipment. Whenever possible, temporary repairs are made to restore power quickly, and allow time for longer repairs to take place.
o For customers still without power, crews then make repairs to the individual power lines and service lines that feed directly to customers’ individual homes and businesses

Luke is a 4 year old, about 60ish lb Goldendoodle looking for a home with no kids under the age of 16, no other dogs and a family that has the time and patience to work with him with some resource-guarding tendencies, as Luke is not a fan of sharing his toys or food. He is house broken, crate-trained, knows some basic commands and has full run of the house when his people are gone. As you can see from one of the pictures, he has no problems with the family lizard! LOL!

Meet Hank

Handsome Hank! He is a 2 year old, 77ish lb, (should be 100lbs or so) Great Pyrenees who came to GRRAND as a stray from a rural shelter in KY, and went directly to our amazing Great Pyr foster mom (who has GRRAND dog Snow right now too)! She says Hank came to her with hookworms, giardia and coccidia, horrible matting of his fur (hence his new hair cut) and.is going to be a work in progress, as he has had no socialization (however he loves people), never been in a building or, none the less a home and everything is new to him. This is going to be a process for him, but his love for people gives him comfort and will help him learn it will all be ok!

His foster mom says: " Hank is a beautiful, young and totally neglected boy. Underneath all those mats is an emaciated skeleton of a dog. But shining forth despite that abuse, is a loving soul who followed me around the yard as I mowed and waited by the gate for me to finish mowing the front yard so I could come back to pet him. Hank loves to lean against a person to be scratched and petted. Hank just went to the vet to get all those mats shaved off (see pics) and start getting the medical care he needs. He has a lovely calm temperament, and one of these days, Hank will be as beautiful on the outside as he is on the inside.

And... The pics show Hank getting his first bath. I have never seen spotted fur on a Pyr before. They all have spotted skin, but not fur that I have seen before and it is beautiful! And right after his bath, of course, I went in to fix his food and the little turkey rubbed against the wood fence, getting himself filthy!!! LOL! Typical Great Pyr! He is still skeptical of going inside, but is getting better everyday and daily walks help him decompress some. He gets along well with my female Pyr, but he has no idea how to play just yet. Time... it takes time"!

Meet Faith

This beautiful girl is Faith... Faith was one of the breeder dogs that was rescued from horrid conditions from the Amish puppy mill rescue in early Dec.

**** Faith continues to be extremely unsocialized at this time, and the type of home she is needing is not just your typical home. There are quite a few MUST HAVES for her and they are: MUST have someone who is experienced in helping unsocialized breeder dogs transition from the kennel situation to a home. This is NOT just for anyone, as the time and patience put into helping to rehabilitate these dogs is huge. She also MUST have another stable dog, MUST have a secure above ground fenced yard with direct access to the yard from the house, MUST have someone home more than the typical working family, and a home with NO kids under the age of 16.

We know we need to get her out of the kennel so she can begin her new journey in life. She needs to find a forever family or foster family that is excited to show her what love and compassion are about. Faith is going to take time... things can not be rushed for her. As said above, she is going to need to have a stable dog living in the home so they can show her the ropes and help build her confidence in everything, especially people. Faith is considered a flight risk, and will need a home with a secure above ground fenced yard with direct access to the yard from the home. We do not know how she will be with kids and or chaos, so a home with no kids under the age of 16 is best and we do not know how she is with cats at this time.

The training is going to cost $6000+, and that's with significant discounts. If you can't help with fostering or adoption right now, perhaps you would like to contribute to their training fees: https://www.gofundme.com/f/emergency-puppy-mill-rescue

Meet Boone

This beautiful boy was rescued from the Spencer County Rescue in September and is now ready to live the good life with his very own family and home. Can you be his hero.

Here is what his temporary foster mom has to say...

"Boone is getting along with both Angel and Mr. Sedge. He is a chewer so I will be getting Boone some chew toys - he is eating well and loves doggie goodies. He goes out to 'do his business' and immediately wants back in [maybe because he is cold or
maybe he just likes being in the house]. Boone spends most of his time on his doggie bed [when not hunting out something to chew on] and is open to being rubbed. He does not like being on leash and fights a bit if you try to lead him so we are not going to try that again until he is generally more comfortable."
