Cockatoos can be silly birds! Here's Mindy playing in a box!

We would have shown you Pancho chewing on a piece of a toy, but he gets really suspicious of you when you point your camera at him. Anyway, here he is, being suspicious of a person with a camera.

Pancho is a blue-front amazon parrot, looking for a loving home. He purrs when you scratch his head, and is sometimes shy and sometimes feisty.

This week’s birds of the week are Penni and Buttercup.

Buttercup knows that to stay healthy, one has to have a healthy diet. She is a very good eater, eating both her pelleted diet, and her healthy vegetables and fruit. She also sometimes hides choice pieces of food in her feathers, for later.

Penni and Buttercup are both available for adoption to qualified homes.

This week’s birds of the week are Penni and Buttercup.

Buttercup wants to look her best during events, so she made sure that all her grooming was done beforehand. Maybe you’ve met Penni and Buttercup at one of our events. Or one of the other birds under Greyhaven’s care.

Penni and Buttercup are both available for adoption to qualified homes.

This week’s birds of the week are Penni and Buttercup.

Here are a few photos of Penni and Buttercup representing Greyhaven in the booth at a couple recent events. They both did a great job interacting with the public, and going into the spray booth when it got too hot.

Penni and Buttercup are both available for adoption to qualified homes.

This week’s birds of the week are Penni and Buttercup.

Some birds get all goofy when you run the vacuum cleaner. Penni is one of those birds. When they hear the vacuum cleaner, some birds will start bathing in their water bowls, and some will do whatever Penni is doing. We did ask Penni what she was doing, and she just gave us a coy look. Some theories are that the vacuum cleaner sounds like rain or running water, and it gets the birds into a bathing mood. Many birds, maybe most birds, or maybe almost all birds, love bathing.

This week’s birds of the week are Penni and Buttercup.

Buttercup is very calm and mellow, and gets along with everyone she meets. Here she is getting scratches with Pappy (Buttercup is on the right), and eating some mash with Snowdrop.

This week’s birds of the week are Penni and Buttercup.

Here are Snowdrop, Pappy (foster), Buttercup, and Penni enjoying banana. But Snowdrop and Buttercup had some banana earlier so they’re not as hungry.

Penni is a double-yellow-headed amazon parrot. She loves food and is a little bit overweight, so we have to watch her diet. She needs a bit of encouragement to let someone scratch her head, but she really enjoys it once she gets going. Penni is pretty opinionated and does not hesitate to let you know what she thinks of things. Penni’s favourite place to hang out is your shoulder, from where she can give you her thoughts.

This week’s birds of the week are Penni and Buttercup.

Penni and Buttercup were some of the birds representing Greyhaven at recent events. To ease logistics, Penni and Buttercup spent the night at Snowdrop’s house before the Ladner Village Market. Here are Snowdrop and Buttercup enjoying some banana.

Buttercup is a sulphur-crested cockatoo. She is very gentle and affectionate, and very well behaved.

JAN'S CANS UPDATE

July may just have been our best month yet, with a grand total of $290.70 in returnables. This is just fabulous! Thanks to all of you who contributed.

While Cher may not look too happy about things in the photo - Suzanne is holding her while Diane puts a drop of medication in her eye - she actually is pretty chill about getting her drops. It may help that she doesn't see the little dropper heading towards her eye anymore. Whatever the reason, she handles her twice daily drops like a champ and is doing well. If she could thank each and every one of you, I'm sure she would.

We'll continue putting Jan's Cans funds towards paying off her medical bill. This has been a huge help. There is still a lot of nice weather ahead, with beach time, barbeques, and long walks. Let's try to top July's total!

Tip of the month: U.S. products don't contain deposit amounts that can be refunded to our account. So if you buy returnables across the border they can be recycled here, but there won't be a container refund. Please put them in your recycling bin instead of your Jan's Cans bag. Thank you!
