JAN'S CANS UPDATE

Another late update. But I'm sure you are all collecting your returnables anyway. You know your hard work will go towards helping an amazing and worthy bird, since they are ALL amazing and worthy.

Louie would like to thank you for May's total of $178.45. With barbeque season, hot weather, and vacations coming up we are confident that June will beat that total.

To encourage you, our bird of the month is a sweet old gal named Holly. She is a blue and gold macaw, lovingly bonded with Buddy. Although we do not know their ages, they are definitely geriatric. Deemed palliative shortly after coming into our care 9 years ago they have defied the odds. But Holly is starting to lose the battle. Her heart is failing, her papilloma is affecting her more, her appetite and fluid intake are not what she needs to thrive - the list goes on. But she is getting loving care, from her vet, our staff, the volunteers, and, most importantly, from Buddy. He is her partner, her nurse, her bodyguard, her everything. June's returnables will go towards the many medications she takes. Let's show her how much she is loved. ♥️

We are currently recruiting for a personable, energetic and hardworking individual to assist with parrot care at our South Delta location.

Primary Function:

The Shelter Assistant is responsible for feeding, cleaning, and socializing with our flock of parrots

Job Duties include but are not limited to:

• Cleaning cage grates and trays, perches, wiping down inside/outside of cages and surfaces
• Provide fresh water, food, and serve veggies
• General cleaning – Laundry, dishes, cleaning air filters, cleaning floors, wiping down other areas as needed
• Administering medications

Knowledge:

• Bird/animal knowledge would be very helpful – must love animals

Experience:

• Must be 18 years or older
• Experience working with animals is an asset
• Must be able to stand for length of shift, lift 25 lbs. if needed
• Full training provided

Hours/Days: 16 to 36 hours per week, 8 hour shifts

Note: This position can be physically demanding and a fast paced role. You will be on your feet and on the move for the duration of your shift. Also, parrots naturally produce dander from their feathers which creates dust. If you have allergies to dust or nuts this position may not be the right fit for you.

Due to our location, transportation is required as we are not accessible by public transit

Tiki is worth eating a lot of food for. Want proof? Just look at our waistlines. Tiki loves being with you. If she’s not with you, she’s anticipating being with you, so much that she jumps up and down. She loves you! And when she’s with you, she’s in heaven. And so are you!
