🎉Happy Birthday Kruz🎂

A general practicing Veterinarian gave this guy 6 months to live upon his Megaesophagus Disease diagnosis. And here he is turning 6 YEARS old today!

Today we celebrate all of Kruz' personalities:
Hiking, exploring waterfalls, chasing squirrels, playing ball, his daredevil side of tubing behind the boat and jet skiing around the lake, regurging raw food and aiming for carpet in the middle of the night, obsessively barking everytime someone enters the room, an occasional nip in the ass to his human brothers friends, and just challenging us daily to be better pet parents and advocate for dogs with special needs like him...
Here's to hoping for 6 more years!

For those "new" to Megaesophagus, this photo shows how close the esophagus and the trachea are to each other in the dog's anatomy.

Food that enters the trachea can cause aspiration pneumonia by entering the lungs. It's also not providing nourishment to the dog as it won't go through the digestive system.

Thus, the importance of the vertical feeding process and the avoidance of a dog with Megaesophagus eating from a bowl on the floor or any position with the head in a downward angle.

Learning how to bypass locks....

I FINALLY got this on video!!! Brian and I thought we were losing our minds because we swore we locked Kruz's bailey chair door after every meal. But, right around dinner time, we would find him sitting in his chair with his door open on multiple occasions. Twice in the last week I saw him intentionally use his nose to unlock his door and let himself in his chair Tonight I decided to try and catch him doing it on video and he did! Gotta love a problem solving dog. #hesasmartcookie

He has to eventually get this trick, right? Lol

Kruz was given a box with sardines in it and taped shut. The game was for him to figure out how to shred the box to get I the prize. Well, he got to the prize and then got a box stuck on his head in the process. Lol

Kruz is bound and determined to literally strip the hedge tree of all it's bark. Lol
