It was a cold and early start to the day, but the team was excited to get to work. Off to Greyton we went, with our mission set on sterilisation. Hosted by the wonderful Greyton Animal Welfare Society ,who always use a sterilisation day as an opportunity to educate the local children on proper pet care. And today, like every other sterilisation day,was a resounding success! By the end of the day, Dr Beer and Dr Bennie had sterilised 54 animals, including one horse gelding.
Each animal that was sterilised also got a special little "x" tattooed in their left ear to show they had been sterilised.
A huge thank you to our fabulous hosts and our awesome CVC team! What a way to celebrate Mandela Day!

On 20th June, the Ebervet Community Veterinary Care team travelled to the charming town of Greyton for a vital sterilisation day, organised and hosted by the Greyton Animal Welfare Society (GAWS). Our dedicated veterinarians, Dr Beer and Dr Bennie, were supported by an enthusiastic team comprising Sam, Tiffany, Devan, Nina, Eileen, and Bianca.

The day was filled with love and joy, and as it progressed, the excitement among our team grew even stronger. We are deeply committed to these sterilisation days because we understand the crucial role they play in population control and disease prevention.

GAWS also seized this opportunity to educate the local children about proper pet care, emphasising the importance of love and sterilisation. By the end of the day, we successfully sterilised 49 dogs and cats.

We are excited to collaborate with GAWS again on 18th July for another sterilisation day and continue our shared mission of promoting animal welfare.

This week, our CVC team visited Fisantekraal to support FAW Fisantekraal Animal Welfare in sterilising 25 animals. Our dedicated team included Aldorette McLaughlin and Sam Mann from Ebervet Pet Clinic, along with our Veterinary Surgeon, Dr Beer. The photos highlight the significant need for veterinary care in the area, including cases of cancer, mammary tumours, and a dog with a deformed p***s. We're grateful for the opportunity to make a positive impact and are committed to continuing our efforts to improve animal welfare in the community.

Day 3 in Nieu Bethesda, and we finished strong! Today, we sterilised 31 dogs and 1 cat. Dr Bennie skillfully performed two dog leg amputations for badly broken legs. Over the course of our mission, we have successfully treated 85 dogs and cats and gelded 19 horses.

A special thank you to Victoria Nance for organising this life-saving mission. Victoria is a true saint in this small Karoo town, single-handedly taking on the task of looking after all the town's animals. We close this adventure with a sense of happiness and accomplishment, knowing we've made a significant impact on this wonderful community. Thank you for all your support!

-Ebervet CVC Team Continues Vital Mission in Nieu Bethesda-

On the second day of their mission in Nieu Bethesda, the Ebervet CVC team was strengthened by the arrival of Dr Beer. With renewed energy and an additional pair of skilled hands, the team tackled the demanding task of sterilising and neutering a large number of animals.

The day's objective was ambitious: to sterilise and neuter as many dogs and cats as possible while also attending to a horse requiring gelding. Despite the high expectations, the team rose to the challenge with exceptional dedication and efficiency.

From early morning, the team members were hard at work. Dr Beer and Dr Bennie, leading the veterinary efforts, demonstrated remarkable expertise and teamwork. Their collaborative spirit ensured each procedure was performed with the utmost care and precision.

By the end of the day, the team had successfully sterilised and neutered 53 dogs and cats, in addition to gelding one horse. This achievement highlighted their commitment to the welfare of the animals in the community.

The atmosphere was one of intense focus, camaraderie, and mutual support. Each team member played a crucial role, handling and preparing the animals for surgery and ensuring post-operative care. Their collective effort ensured every animal received the best possible treatment.

As the sun set, the Ebervet CVC team reflected on their accomplishments with pride and fulfilment. They knew their work was making a significant impact on the lives of both the animals and the people of Nieu Bethesda.

With two successful days behind them, the team looked forward to continuing their mission, driven by the knowledge that their efforts were bringing much-needed veterinary care to a community in need. Their dedication and hard work underscored the profound difference that compassionate and skilled veterinary care can make.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, the dedicated team of Dr Bennie, Sam, Devan, Pia, and Bianca from Ebervet CVC set out on a crucial mission to Nieu Bethesda. Their objective: to provide essential veterinary services by gelding horses and sterilising dogs and cats in a community where access to such care is scarce.

As the sun rose on Monday, casting a soft glow on the horizon, the team embarked on their mission, fully aware of the significance of their undertaking. With no resident veterinarians in Nieu Bethesda, their presence was not just appreciated but absolutely necessary.

Monday morning greeted them with a crisp chill in the air, but undeterred, they wiped the ice from their windscreen and prepared for the day ahead. Their first task: to tend to a stallion in need of gelding. Dr Bennie, leading the charge, approached the task with determination and a reassuring smile. Despite the challenges, he remained steadfast, his expertise shining through.

With the successful completion of the first procedure, the day gained momentum, each member of the team working in harmony to provide quality care to every animal in their care. By 13.30, they had performed an impressive total of 18 geldings, a testament to their skill and dedication.

Yet, their work was far from over. With the horses tended to, the team eagerly anticipate the next phase of their mission: sterilising dogs and cats. Tomorrow promises new challenges, but also the opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of countless animals and their human companions.

As the sun set on another day, the Ebervet CVC team retired, their hearts full, and their spirits lifted by the knowledge that they had truly made a difference. And as they looked ahead to the tasks awaiting them on the morrow, they did so with determination, knowing that their work was not just a job, but a calling—a commitment to compassion and care for all creatures, great and small.

In the heart of Ladismith, nestled among the rugged landscapes of the Little Karoo, Dr Hilldidge Beer and Sr Hilda Mills embarked on a noble mission: to assist the Karoo Animal Protection Society - KAPS in their vital work of sterilising dogs and cats.

Day one dawned with promise, but it wasn't long before events took an unexpected turn. Sr Mills, with her unwavering dedication, found herself on the receiving end of a canine's anxious nip. Yet, undeterred by adversity, she soldiered on, fortified by a tetanus injection and a course of antibiotics.

Undaunted by the challenges of day one, the team regrouped, their resolve unwavering. Day two dawned with renewed determination, and the sterilisation project resumed with vigour.

Despite the initial setback, the team's efforts bore fruit. On day one, they successfully sterilised 26 animals, providing a lifeline to countless more by curbing overpopulation. And on day two, they continued their crusade, sterilising a further 25 animals, leaving a lasting impact on Ladismith and its beloved furry residents.

As the sun set on their mission, Dr Beer and Sr Mills reflected on the journey they had undertaken. Though punctuated by challenges, their shared commitment to animal welfare had triumphed, leaving an indelible mark on the Little Karoo community and its cherished companions.

It's 42deg today in Greyton but nothing stops the EberVet CVC team! We're steaming through dozens of sterilisations for Greyton Animal Welfare Society. Our target was 60 animals but we've already surpassed that and we're still going. Well done to our awesome veterinary team and to the volunteers from GAWS who have done such an awesome job in organising this spayathon and for helping curious kids learn a little about why it's important to sterilise.

On the first day, there was a gradual start with minimal community support. However, day two, which took place on Saturday, 18th November, commenced with enthusiasm. Queues of community members, accompanied by their pets, eagerly waited at the door. The dedicated care team operated seamlessly, resembling a well-oiled machine, and successfully sterilised 104 animals in a single day.

This Mass Animal Sterilisation program is funded by The City of Cape Town and executed by various organisations within the Cape Animal Welfare Forum.

What an amazing team effort that led to an incredibly successful day! 86 animals were sterilised in Nomzamo, preventing countless unwanted litters and future suffering. Five highly skilled vets and five dedicated organisations came together to ensure the day ran smoothly. This initiative was spearheaded by Dogs Day Out South Africa and received support from Ebervet Community Veterinary Care, TOP - The Outreach Program , HART - Helderberg Animal Rescue Team - Western Cape , and PETS - Pets Empowerment In Townships Western Cape

Being part of such a remarkable day is truly special. Everyone worked tirelessly, all driven by their passion, making it hardly feel like "work."

A heartfelt thank you to Dogs Day Out South Africa for initiating and funding this event. Gratitude also goes to Talisman Hire Strand for their consistent willingness to donate lighting for our Steri days, and to Jimmy's Trailer Hire for their generous trailer donation. Most importantly, a massive thank you to every volunteer who put in countless hours of hard work, not only on the day but also in preparation.

We are so excited to be apart of this fantastic initiative taking place this Saturday.

The first day of our involvement in the MASP, which is funded by the City of Cape Town and executed by various organizations within the Cape Animal Welfare Forum, got off to a slow start. Unfortunately, we faced numerous "no-shows." Nevertheless, we persevered with what animals we could collect, and gradually, word began to spread. People started bringing their animals for sterilisation.

By the end of the day, we had successfully sterilised 39 animals. This accomplishment is significant considering the initial challenges we encountered in securing the community's cooperation. Encouraging people to register their animals for sterilisation was met with resistance, but we remain optimistic that the success of day one will motivate more people to participate in the next two days of the programme.

A heartfelt thanks to our invaluable supporters:

- Jimmy Trailer, for his unwavering support in providing trailers whenever we needed them.
- Talisman Strand, for their consistent sponsorship of the much-needed lights.
- Animal Welfare, especially Inspector Kyle, for their essential assistance throughout this initiative.
- HART, who generously covered the cost of the hall for us. Your contributions have made a significant impact on our efforts.

While kennel cough is generally manageable in healthy dogs, it's crucial to promptly inform your veterinarian about any coughing in your pet, as it might indicate a more severe underlying condition. The initial symptoms of the canine distemper virus and canine influenza virus closely resemble those of kennel cough. Additionally, coughing can be a sign of ailments such as asthma, bronchitis, and heart disease in dogs.
