𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 | 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗰𝘂𝗲 — 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽!

This year alone, SDF has evaluated shelter dogs from across 28 states and welcomed 44 recruits into our search dog program, but the need keeps growing for trained search and rescue dogs to pair with first responders. We know more canine heroes are waiting in our nation’s shelters, and with just weeks left to raise funds, The Rachael Ray Rescue Brigade is on the march to reach our goal.

𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 | 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗰𝘂𝗲 — 𝗚𝗲𝗺𝗺𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹!

Puppy Gemma was purchased from a breeder in Alabama by a couple who hoped the cute Australian Shepherd would make a nice family pet. But their inability to keep up with the breed’s energy level resulted in Gemma being surrendered at the Saraland Animal Shelter. Fortunately, Save a Stray Rescue stepped in, pulled Gemma from the shelter, and placed her in a foster home. Gemma’s good fortune continued as she was fostered by a handler with Alabama Task Force 1 (AL-TF1), who quickly identified her potential for search and rescue work. She reached out to her friend and fellow handler on AL-TF1, who also happened to be an SDF recruiter, and arrangements were made for Gemma to fly from Alabama to Santa Paula, CA.

Once at our National Training Center, Gemma passed her evaluation and showed tremendous potential for search and rescue, wagging her tiny tail as she searched for her toy. She excelled in her training and was paired with Fidel Gomez of Tijuana Rescue Squad and USAR Baja California FT-BC-3 (BC-TF3) in 2017. Since then, Gemma and Fidel have deployed numerous times and continue to train together to keep their skills sharp and communities safe!

Welcome to Happy Tails Adoption! My name is Mallory and I'm the CFO (Chief Feline Officer) around here. Our mission is to promote the adoption of pets everywhere that are in need of their forever home. I'm speaking from experience since I was rescued, along with my brother Irv, from a creek bed in Los Gatos, CA. We're currently enjoying eating the grass and watching the squirrels in Beaverton, OR with the best mom and dad that two kitties could ask for.
