Eight years ago, a close friend and mentor started a dog walking and petsitting business and I would accompany her on home visits. I gained insight into the responsibility of going into peoples' homes and caring for their animals while they work or go away on vacation. A huge component of what I do rests on communication with each family--offering personal updates and photos while they are away, a
nd giving them peace of mind that their four-legged family members are well cared for by someone they can trust. Growing up with dogs has given me a profound appreciation for their idiosyncrasies, and with each animal I care for I strive to better understand their needs on an individual level. If an animal has certain preferences in terms of exercise, I seek to tailor their exercise to what they most enjoy with their health and safety in mind. In addition, I try to maintain the routine each family has in an effort to decrease the anxiety level the animals have while their families are away.
