I started by making one of my own dogs a Calming Band and have since been asked to make some for friends. The band is made of elastic that goes over the nose and around the back of the ears and under the jaw, like a figure-8 headcollar. The Calming Band is more than a face wrap and less than a Halti. It is easier for the average person to put on a dog than the face wrap. How it Works
Calming Band
s are used to bring an animals awareness to their mouth. Within the system of Tellington TTouchTM, mouth-work is utilised to activate the limbic system – the part of the brain that looks after the emotions. The noseband gently creates that contact whilst also changing their awareness e.g. barking can be a habit - see dog (or postman), bark – during a barking episode the calming band gently brings their awareness to their muzzle and thus interrupts the barking by taking their attention away from the stimulus. By allowing them to be aware of habitual responses and behavioural patterns, they may change them and begin to observe the world around them and respond rather than react to stimuli. All Simple Calming Bands are made to measure and are now available in the following widths:
3/4inch available in black only - all sizes £5 plus postage;
1/2inch available in black only - all sizes £3.50 plus postage. Measurements are taken in a figure of eight around the muzzle and up around the neck behind the ears. The Simple Calming Bands are not designed for a lead to be clipped onto them. Preferred method of payment is Paypal. Cheque or cash is also acceptable.
