**********EXCITING NEWS! ******

James River Greyhounds is very fortunate to continue placing NGA Retired Racing Greyhounds because of our on-going relationships with the racing greyhound owners, kennel owners, kennel trainers/handlers and the many individuals who have been a part of the racer’s life.

As a PRO-Racing adoption group, we continue to support the industry and all the individuals who continue to make a positive impact upon these awesome athletes! We are forever GREYTFUL for being able to be a part of their next chapter of retirement!

The Board of JRG has been in contact with the respective Boards of selective adoption groups that are functioning primarily as a support group for any retired racing greyhounds within their area (some of these groups are receiving a limited number of NGA racers and racers from both Ireland and Australia).

Each Adoption Board is very excited to extend the invitation to previous adopters/families of the following adoption groups to apply with James River Greyhounds if they are interested in bringing another NGA retired racer into their lives.

Blue Ridge Greyhound Adoption
Greyhound Pets of America-Charleston
Greyhound Crossroads
Greyhound Friends Of North Carolina
Greyt Expectations Greyhound Rescue
Maine Greyhound Placement Service
Old Dominion Greyhound Adoption
Virginia Greyhound Adoption

To begin the process, complete an Adoption Application https://jamesrivergreyhounds.wufoo.com/forms/jrg-previous-adopter-application/ which will indicate your prior adoption group. The JRG adoption coordinator will then reach out to the corresponding group point of contact for confirmation and be in touch with next steps!

If you have any questions prior to applying, please email [email protected] and we are happy to help with the process!

Let's work together to match you with your next retired racer! We look forward to hearing from previous greyhound adopters of these groups!

Happy July 4th! We wanted to share some tips to help you keep your hounds safe and sound. Fireworks are frightening for many dogs, and a frightened dog can accomplish amazing feats, including jumping fences. If you are attending fireworks, please leave your dogs safely at home; create safe spaces for them in the house, be sure windows are closed, and consider playing some soothing music to mask outside noises. If at all possible, avoid taking your hounds outside during peak firework times. If you must take your dog out for a potty break, consider leash walking even inside your fenced yard, and be sure to use your slip knot hold! Finally, be sure your dog is wearing his/her tag collar with up to date contact information. We hope that everyone has a happy and safe holiday!

With July 4th approaching, we wanted to share some tips to help you prepare and keep your hounds safe and sound. The forecast for the coming weekend is hot and humid: please limit time your dog's time outside and watch for signs of overheating. Fireworks are extremely frightening for many dogs, and a frightened dog can accomplish amazing feats, including jumping fences. We hope that everyone has a cool, happy, and safe holiday weekend!

About GEGR

Greyt Expectations Greyhound Rescue(tm), Inc. is a non-profit, 501(c)(3), ALL VOLUNTEER greyhound adoption organization, specializing in personal adoption services that are rendered in a friendly, relaxed, and informative atmosphere. We do our best to create an inviting, people-friendly environment to educate people about greyhounds before, during, and after adoption. We are committed to making successful matches of personality and lifestyle between hounds and homes. If possible, we work with adopters' personal preferences for color and age. We personally answer phone calls and make every effort to answer all inquiries within a day or two. We do our best to keep adopters from wondering about their status and usually turn around applications within a week. We bring adopters into the process so they aren't intimidated or left waiting.

GEGR originally planned to adopt out about 12 dogs a year, but we've grown so much that we've been able to place an average of 100 dogs annually. We have met so many wonderful people along the way - as well as some very memorable and loving Greyhounds. We LOVE what we do and it shows!
