Mama Serama with her 7 Serama chicks and one regular size chick are doing great! Mama duck with her 8 ducklings love to swim. And our pet piggies keeps growing… now 6 but almost all getting along now.

Clover and Big Red surprised us with 5 piglets today. 4 boys , 1 girl. 3 are black and ginger, 2 are black and white. Also our African male goose was hiding in a pig hut and upon further investigation we found out he has a respiratory infection and so he is in the barn recuperating. Also, Peggy and Konnie brought a bag of cabbage leaves! The mini pigs enjoyed the most along with the poultry and the older pigs casually grazed.

Two piggies we sold last year were returned to us because the owner was downsizing their farm. They are fitting in and still need to be named. As for the rest of the pigs, the pastures were opened for all the pigs today and they were so happy!

Remember that acre field I planted? Well I did that 2 years ago with no results so we put pigs in the field all last summer to fertilize it. I couldn’t waste another year, so I also added some fertilizer just in case. Some of the pumpkins have sprouted, but most of my sunflowers have not as I think my guinea hens ate the seed. So I replanted again. Here’s hoping for some great crops!

I weeded the garden area and ended up with 7 full garbage bags of mostly dandelion greens. Very happy piggies!

I had some help planting the field today. Here’s hoping we get pumpkin and sunflower crops! Two years ago, we tried and nothing grew because the soil needed fertilizer so we put five pigs in the field last year and hoping that they fertilized it for us.

Big changes at the farm today. We moved Bacon in with the pet pigs. He is a barrow and was never sold and was slated for meat. However, he’s too sweet so we moved him in to the pet pig area. Callie left our pet pig area and moved in with some of our new breeders since she had her first litter with a guinea hog. Since Callie is a ginger pig we moved her in with other ginger pigs in hopes of having ginger piglets, which are very popular. Here’s hoping they all sleep well with the changes.

So the grocery store has big garbage bags full of corn husks and cabbage leaves that people throw away. Well our wonderful friends Peggy and Konnie grabbed those bags with the permission of the grocery store and those bags have fed our pigs for days and some of our Poultry! Thank you P & K!

Working with Chance on not reacting to noises. People/animals on TV makes him bark. He gets a click and treat for being quiet which reinforces good behaviors. His sidekicks watching get treats too if Chance is good. So far we are doing better!

We have very sad news. Samson, only 7 months old, was hit by a car last night and was found 10 feet from our driveway early this morning. Samson passed away from his head injury. It has taken me all day to figure out how to announce this. Samson was given a second chance after finding him on our porch after birth 8 hours later in the cold. He lost 3 toes and part of his tail. We nursed him back to life. He was fearless and thought he was a dog. He slept with the dogs and played with the dogs. He was smart! He watched the dogs use the dog doors. In February, he started to use the dog doors and go out to the dog play areas and play with them. The end of March and early April, he started to explore the fields near us. He made friends with all of our barn cats but always came in each night to sleep with the dogs. All we can think of is that God had a plan for him and asked us to rescue him until his time was ready to help somebody in heaven. We love you Samson, and raise some ruckus in heaven but be a good boy too! We miss you already.

Feeding piglets in the mud hole! 🤣 More piggies are leaving this week if everyone picks them up as planned. Only one kune kune gilt will be remaining looking for a new farm.

We’ve been busy and this post is late but lots of thanks to Peggy & Konnie for the delicious fruits and veggies and to my cousins Beth & Michael for all the canned goods, noodles and rice. All the animals love it even the piglets. Expired foods don’t throw out! The piggies will eat them as long as they aren’t moldy! You wouldn’t believe how happy expired foods make the piggies day!

So I’ve been resting and away from the farm animals for the last 10 days and my husband’s been taking care of everybody, but I was able to sneak out yesterday and give some treats! I miss them.

Happy Birthday Belated to our Saffron girl. She turned 2 on March 11th. She was born and two weeks later developed pneumonia but we suspect she may have some deformity as well but she made it! She is the sweetest girl to all people and loves scratches. Her favorite foods are raspberries, tomatoes and bananas. Happy Birthday girl!
