🐾 Happy Labor Day 🐾

Besides being “man’s best friend” our beloved pooches have long assisted humans in many tasks. As hunting, guarding and shepherding companions they have long been of great help to us. Though they get top marks as loving and caring friends to us, their keen sense of hearing and smell, loyalty and intelligence make many of them excel in many other professions as well. Yes, you heard that right. Dogs can have jobs too!

Remember that loud noises are stressful to animals. If your holiday festivities include loud music, fireworks, or other noisy activities, keep your pet inside where they can relax. They'll be much happier hanging out in a cool, dark room with some soft music than they would be amid the chaos of a party.

Here are a few simple things to keep your pets safe:

Watch the grill. The smell of food cooking can be hard for your dog to resist. Make sure your pet doesn’t get too close to the grill.

Avoid hot cars. If you are traveling in a car, for a picnic, BBQ, going to the park or visiting family, never, never, never leave a pet in a hot car, even with the windows partially open.

Cover the trash. Keep trash covered and away from pets to avoid leftovers and bones, corn cobs, etc. for pets.

No table scraps. Resist the temptation to give pets table scraps. Fatty foods can upset tummies, leading to vomiting or diarrhea. Keep dog and cat treats nearby. Never give pets cooked bones; they are a choking hazard, can splinter and result in intestinal problems.

Avoid overheating. Provide plenty of water and shade for your pets. If you have concrete or other hard surfaces in your backyard, test them with the palm of your hand. If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for your dog’s paws.

Take care with alcohol, other toxic substances. This applies to more than just beer and other alcoholic beverages. Other toxic substances like insect repellant, charcoal and lighter fluid may also attract curious pets, so keep them away.

Tag and chip your pet. Pets can easily slip out of the door or yard if you have a lot of people over. Make sure information on ID tags is current and that any contact information associated with your pet’s microchip is up to date.

Fresh water, no alcohol for pets. Alcohol can be deadly to pets. Make sure empty cans and bottles are in the covered trash. Provide clean fresh water for pets.

There many dogs and cats in need of their furever home. We need adopters and fosters but we also want you to be conscious that choosing the right dog for your family is important to ensure a good match. Consider your lifestyle and the type of dog that would fit within it, such as energy level and size. Dogs also require a certain amount of exercise and attention, so consider your availability to care for them.

They will hate to be returned to the shelter or worst abandoned in the streets.

Today while we were waking up our beautiful Margot was arriving at Newark airport making her way to her new furever home.

A few months ago during one of our adoption fairs hosted in old San Juan in collaboration with Compañía de Turismo de Puerto Rico, Margot met her prospect human mom Carmen

Carmen lives in Washington DC. We started her adoption application during the event and later continued processing it until it was fully approved.

This morning Margot took an early flight on Amerijet to Newark while her adopting mom traveled by car from DC to Newark to pick her up.

This are some of the stories that truly gives us hope. When complete strangers come in contact with our beautiful Satos and develop a bond leading to this process.

Margot arrived safe and Carmen was there ready to receive her.

We wish them the best life together . We know they will be making great memories for years to
come.
