**COURTESY POST**

Location: Pittsburgh, PA

Smokey, neutered male, 3yrs old, 30lbs

Smokey was a street dog ion California. He was going to be euthanized by Animal Control the day I had a rescue group pull him & his kennel mate. I paid for both dogs to be vetted & one was placed in a California home, while I had Smokey shipped to Pittsburgh to live at my house w my other cattle dog. Smokey is extremely dog-friendly. He loves dogs, but terrified of people.

I’ve fostered dozens of heelers & none have been as feral as Smokey. He can’t even be touched. He lunged at me & snapped “in the air” (never bit or touched) when I inadvertently blocked his pathway to his doghouse. He’s choosing to live outside on my fenced-in wooden deck in the cold winter (the cedar-doghouse is electrically heated) instead of using the 24/7 access to inside my house via doggie door. I’ve worked with him for five months & he’s not progressing. My intentions were to have him inside my house & taking him for walks outside on a leash, but he won’t allow anyone to pet him or touch him, so he’s choosing to live in isolation.

He’d be better off on a large piece of property where he could be on grass and be given flea\tick meds by food such as Bravecto (since he can’t be handled)

Smokey is not an ACDRA Foster Dog. If you are interested in Smokey or have questions, please email [email protected]

🐾 Meet Mina: A Loving Cattle Dog Mix in Need of a Foster! 🐾

Mina is a sweet 3-year-old cattle dog mix looking for a foster home from October 23, 2024, to August 1, 2025 while her owner is deployed. Located in Charlotte, NC, Mina can be transported within approximately 6 hours.

Mina is a 55-pound, medium-energy pup who loves people and enjoys being by your side. She’s house, crate, and semi-leash trained—Mina likes lounging in her crate but doesn't need to be confined. She loves running 1-2 miles with her owner and is eager to greet new people and larger dogs, but care should be taken around small animals due to her high prey drive.

Mina is a quiet girl with no destructive tendencies, but she’s a silly goofball who loves chewing on bones and playing with her Lamb Chop toy. She thrives in an active home that can keep her engaged and loved.

If you're looking for a loyal companion, apply to foster Mina today! https://pactforanimals.org/pets/mina-p/

9/26/24 - Great news!!!! Odie was rescued by Border Collies In Need today. One of BCIN's most loyal friends, and occassional volunteer, is fostering him with the possibility of Odie becoming a foster failure. Let's hope so. This boy will thrive with consistent and concise structure that will build confidence to overcome his anxiety. We say that the journey to greatness begins when a dog is rescued. Odie is no exception. We can't wait to see how he blossoms.

Name: Dobby
Animal ID: A848669
Age: 3 years
Weight: 42.2lbs

About: Dobby is a three-year-old red merle male Cattle Dog who came to PACC as an owner surrender. He lived in his previous home for three years.

Dobby exhibits strong protective instincts and can become territorial. He has a history of resource guarding and may chase cats and small animals. Additionally, he has an undocumented minor bite incident where he bit his previous owner's arm while being told to lay down.

Despite his challenges, Dobby is a loyal and playful dog. He knows basic commands like sit, up, down, off, leave-it, bedtime, and place. He also enjoys playing with squeaky toys and fetch.

Adoption Requirements:
No Cats or Small Animals: Due to his prey drive, Dobby should not be placed in a home with cats or small animals.
Older Children: Children should be older and able to respect Dobby's space and understand his protective nature.
Training: Dobby will require ongoing training to address his resource guarding behavior.
Quiet Environment: A home with minimal traffic is ideal to reduce potential triggers for his protective instincts.
Crating or Separation: Dobby may need to be crated or kept in a separate area when guests enter the home.

Adoption Process:

Interested parties:
Must visit PACC before the 5:00 PM Friday, September 27th deadline to meet with an adoption counselor who will go over Dobby’s notes and then introduce you to Dobby to ensure that it’s a good fit.
Are encouraged to reach out to a rescue group, to start their process. Have the rescue contact PACC at [email protected]. If you've connected with a rescue, please inform PACC for coordination.

Meet-and-Greets:
People: Dobby can meet potential adopters in a designated area at any time while he is in isolation.
Dogs: If Dobby will be living with other dogs, meet-and-greets will need to take place after his medication is completed, meet and greets with dogs can start on September 25th, 2024.

Collaboration with Rescue Groups:

PACC's Role:
If you haven't contacted a rescue, PACC will notify all partnered rescue groups about your interest and request their assistance.

Partnered Rescue Groups:
Dobby will require additional training and support that PACC is unable to provide.
Will be given any interested parties information to contact to start their adoption process.
Are encouraged to start their adoption process with any interested parties who have contacted them directly and email PACC at [email protected].

Dobby will need to find placement with a partnered rescue group by 5:00 PM on Friday, September 27th.

Please note that it is ultimately up to the rescue group's discretion to decide whether to proceed with Dobby adoption.

Dobby did not find placement and passed over the rainbow. Fly free and be at peace, Dobby.

FRESH NEWS: DOBBY HAS AN EXTENSION FOR TODAY 9/29. Passion 4 Paws-Southern Arizona has said they will pull him with an approved adopter, SO GET DOWN TO PACC ASAP! 🤞
