CORKYS STORY:
I met Corky on a Saturday morning in June,2016 while volunteering at the shelter. Another volunteer asked me to look in on him because he was growling at people and wouldn't eat.I sat with him for about 20 minutes and was finally able to harness and take him for a walk. The picture posted is from that walk. I came back Sunday and Monday and walked him. Tuesday there was a storm coming so we were grounded. I took him out to the back play area and grabbed a tennis ball.
I threw it, he retrieved it,made it back to me and played keep away from me not letting me have the ball. I knew then this dog has character.
Wednesday I walked him then asked the current Director about Corkys story.
She told me Corkys parents both went to a nursing home leaving Corky, another dog and a cat homeless.
Later that night I texted her and told her to put a hold on Corky.
Thursday I came in to adopt him and it was then I found out he was already 9 1/2 years old. My heart sunk knowing we didn't have many years together.
He was a great companion and even tolerated me bringing Winston home .
It wasn't until he was 16 and 2 months old that we had to part ways. He could no longer maintain his balance while standing so there was no point in prolonging the agony.
My house feels like a part of it is missing and I think Winston feels it too.
Corkys spirit will last forever and there's numerous pictures to remind me the joy he brought to everyone he met.
R.I.P. BUDDY!
