The last picture before it is finished...I promise. The background of spruce green (thread from ) makes the ornament a little larger, but all the colors in the angel just pop!
It is going to be a large ornament anyway, but I have filled in some of the nooks and crannies to make finishing easier.
More to stitch, but I could not wait to show you the background and how it changes the piece!
Can you see the double thread Kreinik Metallic Blending Fillament I am stitching on top of the needlepoint threads on the wing? It is blankety-blank-blank-blank!
Thank goodness "CJ" sent me super-skinney beading needles that make it possible to do these stitches!
I am determined to finish these wings before I start another pair of wings with the fun sparkly white threads "CJ" and sent me!
My fingers are healing from holes I poked in two of my fingers. See the royal blue finger protector in the picture. They are from Amazon.

So, I have made slow progress. Hopefully my progress will speed up! Reminder: my goal is to cover a tree with the needlepoint angel ornaments.
A SURPRISE gift from a fellow needlepointer...arrived today! Let's call her C.J.
She knew I was in a quandry about these angel wings. I want them to be irridescent...gossamer..but without a LNS, I do not know the threads available.
Not only did she send threads I will look forward to using on the 13 or 14 angels purchased and waiting on me to stitch, but she sent floss bags and threaders and beads and beading needles..and...and...and...
I am already using, from her package, a thin beading needle to give a second overlying stitch with my Kreinick iridescent blending filaments over the existing silk basketweave stitched on the wings. This is one method.
I will show you when I have enough to show the before and after...
Progress! I will be stitching the wings a second time with two strands of blending filaments from Kreinik...because that is the look I want for this canvas. (See one tip of the wings by the lion's tail.)
Different sparkly threads will be in before I stitch a second angel. Most of the threads have been Pepper Pots Silk from .

Cotton I, Cotton II and Cotton III. Actually there are six stages of Cotton production, but I have condensed them to three ornaments in my sculptures.
My favorite are the cotton bloom that starts as a strong pink and fades to a white...Then the white fluffy boll that makes a sea of "white gold".

This is Eight of Eight angel needlepoint designs by Joan Thomasson for my future Angel Needlepoint Tree. This kit was found on eBay, and it is my current favorite.
I will collect more angel canvases, but I wanted to share with you these first eight designs. Now to decide stitches and threads.
These may be mostly kits, but I want to think outside the box. Is that not what makes needlepoint so much fun?
Seven of Eight Angels (so far) for my Needlepoint Angel Christmas Tree. This is the 1996 Christmas Angel by Joan Thomasson. I found it on eBay.
Angel Six (of now eight angel canvas designs) for my dedicated Angel Needlepoint Christmas Tree. I have had this canvas for five or so years. It is an 18 mesh canvas, not a kit.

Last night, I received a picture of a Christmas Tree covered in these large angel needlepoint ornaments from a different stitcher. As soon as I get permission to share the photo, I will!
I recently acquired five kits of Joan Thomasson angels from WendyX (name withheld). This brings to seven my Joan Thomasson angels, all 18 mesh. I will be sharing these canvases one at a time.
My goal is a Christmas tree covered in needlepoint angels. It may take a while!
Easter Past: The dates on a few pictures are wrong. They were scanned into the computer years ago, at different times. I have no idea why the original picture is consistently fuzzy. Usually my mother was a great photographer!

The beginnings of an Angel collection. I just scored this Joan Thomasson angel needlepoint kit from eBay. I think it is 18 mesh! The canvas says "Horchow Angel" but the accompanying stitch guide says "Summertime Angel".
I already had this Joan Thomasson "Selina" canvas in my stash. Many happy stitching hours are ahead! (Plus the angel canvases I acquire along the way!)
