Proud of Maud's lad Gwilym who has passed his KC Silver Good Citizen test. Also, if you need an Elvis impersonator then his rates are very reasonable.

Absolutely brilliant weekend training with a lovely group of people and their spaniels (5 Clumbers, 1 Sussex and Maud). We are definitely still wearing our L plates, Maud and I, but we are learning all the time and we love it. Thanks to Jackpotstud Clumber Spaniels for inviting us to join the party; to Lizzie Kwint Photography for the awesome photos; and to Collydam Gundogs for giving us lots to think about.

Rather a good family day out at the SEWSSC working assessment test, with Maud taking 2nd, Eddie 3rd and Arthur 4th in Novice. And yes there were more than 4 runners. Admittedly not many more, but n>4. Still very much a work in progress, but we're learning all the time.

Back in 2004 when I realised that I was an adult and could perfectly reasonably get a dog if I wanted one, I turned to the Observer's Book of Dogs in order to decide what breed of dog might fit the bill. Criteria at the time were medium size, and likely to rub along with children. I had never even heard of Welsh Springers, but they caught my eye - and the rest as they say is history. But I owe a huge debt to Arlene Tester, who invited me into her living room to meet her dogs and whose training classes helped me to realise what might be possible, and who was at the end of the 'phone when our first litter arrived. Arlene very sadly died last month. True to form, the "in memoriam" request is for donations to the Canine Genetics Centre whose team focus on understanding the genetics of inherited disorders in dogs. I wanted to share the link for donations here, in case anyone else might be inclined to support an excellent cause with a donation in memory of a good human being.

Maud loves paddling, but she is not so sure about actual swimming - so this morning we went for a session in the pool together. One of the weirder activities to do with one's dog perhaps, but we enjoyed it.

Looking forward to this. Maud is a little miffed that dogs are not invited.

Happy 14th birthday to our Taffy (Hillpark Summer Dream of Caergrawnt). A little deaf and rather grey, but still with a spring in her step and a nose for sausages and mouses.

Bought all the treats. We can go home now. Look what Maud got as a thank you. It even has her name on it.
