Come see us this weekend at the Lone Star Convention Center in Conroe, TX this weekend! We’ll have yearling blood pythons, mossy and mini mossy frogs, day geckos, tons of plants and much more!
The first blood clutch is out of the egg! Eleven perfect babies from a Pollen x Batik pairing. Looks like it ended up being 5.6 and a good mix of morphs. There are 2 normals, 5 Pollens (only 4 pictured), and 4 that are at least Batik. It looks like the Pollen morph is subtle in combos just as it is in the single incomplete dominant phenotype. I do not know if there is a Pollen Batik here or not. First assumption is that they are all just Batik, but I will continue looking at them for subtleties hinting otherwise. Hopefully, comparing these with additional clutches of similar pairings hatching out will help with ID.
Texas people! We’re headed to Conroe this weekend for HERPS. We’re going to have our biggest assortment of geckos to-date, along with dart frogs, tricolor hognose, mossy frogs and hundreds of terrarium and house plants. Come check out the show if you’re in the area.
Our first blood clutch of the year is on the ground! While this one may not be a flashy morph combo, I’m pretty excited for the reds that may come from this. The parents are from the best of the best lines: Dam (pic 2) is a TBC Manic Panic and Sire (pic 3) is a Red Bull Lyly Marter from Selective Origins.
Last week, we were fortunate to be able to take a trip to San Francisco and visit Steinhart Aquarium at .
Not only is this a nice institution with well-planned exhibits, but this is also where one of my dart frog mentors and good friends, the late Ian Hiler, began his career. Their mossy frog exhibit seemed like an homage to Ian with the moss-covered floor space, reminiscent of so many of his dart frog terrariums.
Happy to say I crossed another species off the list this week when we hatched this duo of Borneo Cat Geckos - Aeluroscalabotes cf. dorsalis. Here’s to hopefully many more!
One of our F1 Oophaga vicentei resting on a verrucosum leaf.
I’ve been putting off working with Pachy. rugosus since I first saw them in person in 2018. Finally pulled the trigger and, so far, I’m happy I did. These are cool little geckos.
One of the F1 red vicentei
Part of a pair of redheads I produced, gave to a friend, and recently got back. These were the first large Oophaga I kept over 10 years ago, and they will always be a special frog to me.
Bloods are getting an early start this year.
007 x Ivory Batik
Can you spot the lizard? Swipe for a closeup!
Anotheca (Triprion) spinosa
2 out of 3 flowerback box turtle species/subspecies in one shot. Both are beautiful in their own right. It’s hard to pick a favorite.
A glass frog tadpole (Hyalinobatrachium valerioi) scraping algae growth off a submerged leaf.
Phelsuma standingi juveniles
Oophaga pumilio “Escudo de Veraguas” - Likely the smallest pumilio locality and from the furthest island out in the Bocas del Toro.
Uroplatus ebenaui pair doing their best impression of dead leaves.
The Phelsuma species that are still imported from Madagascar are often treated as “cheap imports”, but I find these animals no less stunning than any of the “rare” species in the hobby. As Madagascar continues to overexploit their natural resources, these “cheap” species are at risk both in the wild and in captivity due to low effort in people putting time into them.
I have admired Phelsuma quadriocellata for years but have never found a group of both sexes in decent shape. I was recently able to grab 1.3. These are a couple of them in acclimation/QT. Here’s to lots of CB babies over the coming years.
Happy World Snake Day! Here’s a freshly hatched tricolor hognose just in time for the occasion.
Set up another round of Leap habitats for some lizards. Planting and hardscape are minimalistic to ensure animals can be monitored while still providing cover and dark retreats.
I’m really liking these Leap setups I have now and think these will become an important tool for canopy species where the balance of humidity and air movement are critical.
Juvenile redhead histo produced right here. I think this one will be a hold back.
Mammillaria schumannii var. globosa - got to love when the flowers are bigger than the plant!
I’ve been waiting for a male Uroplatus ebenaui for over a year. Finally able to pick one up recently. Thanks !
Borneo cat gecko, Aeluroscalabotes “dorsalis”, sleeping in the pose of its namesake. These are a fun, underrated gecko that exhibit beautiful earth tones in their coloration.
Another picture from the jungle. This time featuring Philo brandtianum.
Out of the jungle that is the greenhouse creeps the dainty leaves of Philodendron tortum.
Mammillaria beneckei is starting to show off. I didn’t know what I was getting when I bought this species but so glad I gave it a try. Easy to grow with huge, bright flowers. It’s hard to ask for much else.
Tiny neonate Golfito granulifera. Our pair seems to have finally settled in!

Ever wonder why all of your succulents have volunteer Dorstenia seedlings popping up? This member of the fig family has projectile seeds to distribute them far away from the parent plant as you can see. #succulent #cactus #cactusandsucculents #dorstenia #dorsteniafoetida #coolplants #unusualplants
Just a small glimpse into one of our propagation areas. This will all be consolidated into a central greenhouse by the end of the year, but thankfully, most of these aroids love our summer conditions provided with some shade and supplemental water. #aroid #philodendron #anthurium #bromeliad #orchids #homenursery #backyardnursery #plantpropagation
