Kitten season is slowly beginning.
This little lady came in with an extremely low temperature. 94° 🥶
We were able to warm her up, get her started on some meds for her upper respiratory infection, and get some food in her*
She was also extremely underweight and dehydrated. Her first day was really touch and go. We weren’t sure if she was going to make it.
We’re taking good care of her and she’s made it through the first 48 hours with us!
Her name is JuJuBe and she’ll be going into a foster home until she’s healthy and adoptable. ❤️
* Never try to feed a cold kitten. This is crucial, if you find a cold kitten, wrap them in a towel or blanket and then a heating pad around that to slowly bring their body temp up before attempting to feed them. This is true for bottle babies too!
Help us find a foster home ❤️
This sweet mama and four puppies arrived late last night. This puts our count at 38 puppies so far this year! 😱
If you can open your home, even for a couple of weeks, please message [email protected] for more details.
Dogs in “C” pod
These guys arrived recently and some are still on their stray hold waiting for their families. 💔
Bubbles (61435) is a great example of how kennel presence is not indicative of a dog’s true personality.
Bubbles is wary of strangers and can appear almost scary in his kennel. But when he’s out with someone he knows, he’s a huge love bug!
Many staff members are doing trainings with the Shelter Playgroup Alliance. They’re learning more about how to observe and interpret dog behaviors. They’re also learning useful tools for working with shelter dogs.
Here is one of our senior shelter technicians, Kayla, working with Violet. Violet originally arrived at SCRAPS in September of 2022. She was adopted and returned earlier this year.
Kayla explains:
“This video is of Violet and we are learning the “Look at That” protocol. She has shown some reactivity towards other dogs, so the goal of this training protocol is to have her look at the other dog, remain calm, and then look back at me. We are working at a distance that is safe for her and where she can keep below her stress threshold.”

Karma is a long term resident but a very sweet girl. She loves her toys and is full of energy to chase down a tennis ball. Her dream home is with someone with a fenced yard and some extra time to play. She will need some time devoted to her to work off some of the stress of being in the kennels but is super sweet. Make an appointment to meet her today!
Meet Athena… she visited the Liberty Lake Police Officers last Tuesday. Apologies for the not-so-great video, but we can’t thank this crew enough for taking the time to spend with her and help her find her furr-ever home. ❤️
❣️ KITTENS NEED YOU ❣️
We are in urgent need of foster families to provide temporary housing to orphaned babies and displaced mamas!
Right now, we have 63 sweethearts 🐱 waiting at the shelter for you to snuggle them up! We provide all of the care supplies and veterinary care; you provide the love and support 💝 they need to thrive.

FROM OVER 40 TO 30! ❣️
Thanks to all of you, we have seen a big number of our deserving doggos 🐶 exit the shelter with tails wagging! Rather than having every single one of our 40 adoption kennels occupied, we find ourselves currently with closer to 30 adoption kennels occupied 🤩 -- this not only means that many happy pups have been welcomed into families 🏠, but it also means that we have space to keep incoming dogs comfortable.
If the current trend holds up, you may be hearing from us again soon as kennels re-fill 💥, but, in this moment, we just want to give thanks. 🙌
Heartfelt ❤️ thanks 🤜🤛 to every person or family who adopted; to every person who spread the word; to both KHQ Local News and KREM 2 News 🎥, which put a spotlight on Spokane County pups in need; and to both Spokane Humane Society and SpokAnimal C.A.R.E., which each welcomed in several dogs from our shelter to open up space for others.
We already know that it's always true, but times like these prove it once more: together, and only together 🤝, we save them. 🐾
For the animals,
The SCRAPS Team
❗️ SPACE CRISIS ❗️ PLEASE HELP ❗️
As of this evening, we have 40 dogs 🐶 in our 40 adoption kennels. 🥵 We need your help to do right by those who need us:
🙏 Please ADOPT if you can! Bring home your newest family member 👨👨👧👦 for the cost of a license ($28). We have so many wonderful pups waiting!
🙏 If you can't adopt, please FOSTER! Finding folks who are interested in providing temporary homes 🏡 to adult dogs can be challenging, but we know they are out there! If you're one of them, please email [email protected] (and thanks for being a rockstar!). 🤩
🙏 If you can't adopt or foster, please HELP GET STRAY DOGS HOME! Before bringing a found animal who is not sick or injured to the shelter, please ask around 🕵️♀️ the area and check online 💻 postings. Most wandering dogs are found less than one mile from their homes, but their odds of making it back to their families decrease significantly once they enter the shelter.
🙏 Please SPREAD THE WORD! 🗣 Spokane County's dogs need us 🤝 to advocate for them! Please help us help them. ❤️
RICO SUAVE 😎 - Needs out of the shelter!
He's the cutest. 😍 He sits on command. 🌟 He lives life with gusto and literally flies 🪂 with excitement. He's talented at catching treats 🦴 and makes any toy look fun. He has the best smile. And, he's been overlooked for over 7 months . . . that's over 200 days in a row . . .😲
Our awesome Rico Suave 🐶 is struggling with kennel stress 🥵, which means that you cannot tell how lovely he is when he's in his kennel AND you need to give him some time ⏳ out of his kennel before you see the real him. The real fun 🥳, playful, kind-hearted 🥰, eager-for-love youngster who is still trying to find his way in life AND out of the shelter.
Please 🙏 help us end his shelter stay by helping us find him the family he's meant to join! Someone out there is about to hit the BFF jackpot. ❤️
Email 📧 [email protected] to meet this darling!
