For those who have been with us since the early days, you may remember this silly poem. Today we let our sweet Ash go. It was time, he let us know...but our hearts are so heavy. He was a sanctuary dog with us only because his beloved sister Annie would have been, and remains, impossible to place. He was perfect. She...not so much. But he loved her so very much. We could not separate them. Our hearts break to lose him and we worry about Annie's fragile heart in the future. After 16 years, this work still drops you to your knees sometimes. Every time. Sleep peacefully sweet Ash. We, and Annie, will love you always. 🩷

Twas the night before Christmas and all throughout Mayday
Our hearts were aching for dogs deemed "not worth saving"
We rushed down to county and what did we find?
Two beautiful babies...frightened and blind
We scooped them up into loving arms
We took them home and learned their charms
The road ahead will be tough and long
But we, and they, are very strong
Born without eyes, we will ensure they see
The love and joy this world can be.

We apologize for the bad poetry. Love does strange things to people.

✔️ Did you exercise your pets early in the day?
✔️ Are your pets microchipped?
✔️ Are your pets wearing collars and tags with your contact info?
✔️ Do you have recent pictures of your pets?
✔️ Do you have a secure, INDOOR space for your pets?
✔️ Depending on your pets level of anxiety do you have tools available to help like ThunderWorks, Relax My Dog, iCalmPet, Sileo, BlackWing Farms etc.?
✔️ Do you have a list of nearby shelters and emergency vets just in case they are needed?
Prepare now to keep your pets safe this New Year's Eve!

Our hearts are so full to finally announce that our distinguished gentleman, Grommet, has been adopted by our very own Mayday volunteer, Stephanie. These two are such a perfect match. We couldn't have wished for a better fit for this sweet boy. Congrats, Stephanie and Grommet! May you have many adventures together! ❤️
