📣Dog Training Classes📣

The AKC’s Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Program is the first step in training for many dogs. The CGC is a 2-part program that teaches responsible dog ownership to owners and basic training and good manners to dogs.

During class you and your dog will learn the 10 test items on the CGC test. These are practical, functional behaviors that every dog should have to be welcomed in the community.

1. Accepting a friendly stranger
2. Sitting politely for petting
3. Appearance and grooming
4. Out for a walk
5. Walking through a crowd
6. Sit and down on cue/Staying in place
7. Coming when called
8. Reaction to another dog
9. Reaction to distractions
10. Supervised separation

Each session is six weeks with limited class size of three dogs, the cost is $150. Classes start in Grand Ledge on Thursday, January 16th at 7pm and Williamston on Tuesday, February 4th at 6:30pm.

📣 AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Classes📣

The AKC S.T.A.R Puppy is a 6-week, positive reinforcement-based training program open to all dogs up to one-year old. This fun activity teaches your puppy basic training skills and gives you a solid foundation on how to care for your dog. It also provides an opportunity for your puppy to socialize with other puppies and people during this important time of development.

Registration is $150 for the six week course and test.
Classes begin in Grand Ledge on Thursday, January 16th at 6pm and in Williamston on Tuesday, February 4th at 5:30pm. Space is limited to three puppies per session.

📅 January 9th is National Apricot Day 🍑!

There are a few dog 🐶 breeds that can be apricot 🍑 in color, including:

🐾Apricot Goldendoodle: A cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle, this breed is known for being intelligent, loyal, and affectionate. They have wavy fur that can be apricot in color, and are often described as looking like teddy bears.

🐾Apricot Poodle: A rare and sought-after color variation of the Poodle breed. The apricot color is recessive, which makes these dogs more expensive and harder to find.

🐾Apricot Maltipoo: A designer dog with a soft apricot coat and soulful eyes.

The standard for apricot-colored dogs is that their coat should resemble the inside of a ripe apricot, with a range of shades from rich dark gold to apricot. The nose pigment for apricot-colored dogs is black.

This day is a way to recognize the love and joy that Labrador Retrievers bring to people's lives.

Labrador Retrievers are one of the most popular dog breeds in the world. They are known for being affectionate, friendly, and loyal, and are often good family companions and assistance dogs. Labs were the most popular dog breed in the American Kennel Club's rankings for 31 years, but were overtaken by French Bulldogs in 2022.

Some interesting facts about Labrador Retrievers include:
• The rarest coat colors for Labrador Retrievers are white, red, and silver.
• Chocolate, yellow, and black labs are more common.
• Labrador Retrievers are large dogs with short, smooth coats that require weekly grooming.
• They need at least two hours of exercise per day.
• Their life expectancy is 10-12 years
• They typically don't start to "settle down" until they are between two and four years old.
