It’s FAQ Friday, and today we want to share about our intake process.
Q: What should I do if I see a doodle in need of a new home?
A: Send our rehome form to the owner. You can find the form at doodledandyrescue.org/surrender
We often get messages and tags when you see a dood that needs a new home, but it is MUCH more effective for you to send the rehome form to the owner. That form goes straight to our intake volunteers so they can determine if we have both the financial and human resources to help a dog. And it’s not just a foster home we’re looking for, our dogs are surrounded by a whole team of volunteers to help with everything from their medical and training needs to getting the word out on social media. We can’t take in a dog without that form, so save the link and share it whenever you want to help a doodle find a new home!
And if the dog is with a finder and not the original owner, they still need to fill out the form as best as they can to start the intake process with us. As we don't have a shelter or physical location, our intake process is not immediate. Emergency intakes would need to reach out to the local shelter for the area.
Darn, Hemi (black dog) really thought his playmate wouldn’t do it! Hemi is about ready for his own home without a heckin’ toy stealer like that dood. Watch our website on Mondays and Thursdays to apply to adopt dogs like Hemi. #ddrHemi
Where does Tanner get those golden locks? Why from his Great Pyrenees ancestors of course! They’re also where he gets his protective instincts. Tanner is looking for an adopter in the DFW area who can work with his trainer so his protective nature can be channelled productively in the home. He needs a child free home ready to give him a predictable daily routine. If you’d like to be the one brushing Tanner’s lovely fur and letting him love you in return, please apply at https://www.doodledandyrescue.org/all-adoptable-doodles/tanner
Juliet is 99% angel but that 1% naughty puppy sure keeps things interesting!
Juliet is a sheepadoodle puppy being fostered in Houston and is not available for adoption yet. #ddrJuliet
We are so thankful for the donors that made this moment possible - Darla can SEE! She had her cataracts removed and this young girl is now in recovery from that surgery. She will still need some dental work done, but she has come so far from the blind stray dog she was when she joined DDR.
If you’d like to donate to help us help doods like Darla, you can give one time or monthly at doodledandyrescue.org/donate.

Purdy loves a good stuffy chewing session. She’s in the crate rest phase of her heartworm treatment now, so low key activities only (this video is sped up). If there are no complications, Purdy should be looking for a new home close to Labor Day. She’d like to remind you that this is not a fun way for a dog to spend the summer, so please give your dogs their heartworm preventatives! #ddrPurdy
Update on Maui - look at him go! Maui is just over two weeks out from his amputation surgery and has adapted to his tri-pawd status very well. He got his stitches out and now he’s building strength and balance. But don’t tell him this is physical therapy - he’s just having fun with the ball! We’re so thankful for the donations, vets and vet techs, and patient foster pawrents that have gotten Maui to this point. #ddrMaui
Ronnie is ready! He’s loved the foster life, but is ready to say “peace out” and head to a home of his own. His wish list is pretty simple: love and affection, sticks and stuffies, and some yummy kibble. What more does a dood need?
You can read all about Ronnie and apply to adopt him on our website here: https://www.doodledandyrescue.org/all-adoptable-doodles/ronnie

Dislikes: Vacuum, hair dryer, and sudden loud noises like the toaster popping 🍞🚫

When it rains it pours 😭 we were just starting to recover from Murph’s medical emergency and now we have another. Maui had a freak accident - he slipped in the mud while playing outside. He dislocated his elbow and broke his leg in multiple places. After evaluation by the vet, it was decided that the most humane course of action in his case is amputation. So Maui is having that surgery today.
The good news is that dogs generally heal from amputation and adapt to having three legs very quickly. Often they are healed and mobile much more quickly than if the vet tries to repair a leg with multiple fractures.
The bad news is that just like any surgery, amputation is not cheap. Maui will be staying in the hospital at least overnight before he can return to his foster home. We’re estimating his care to cost us $5000, so any amount you can give to help Maui is appreciated. Covering the cost of his care means we don’t have to pause our intakes due to financial strain. Wonderful news - Murph is headed home today after his emergency surgery yesterday for GDV (bloat). Check out the tail wags when he saw his fosters 🥹 And our wonderful community has stepped up and half his bill is already covered, thank you! We could still use some help with the rest. You can donate with Paypal or Credit Card on our site https://www.doodledandyrescue.org/donate

GDV or bloat is a veterinary emergency. Gas causes the stomach to twist and can be fatal to a dog within hours. Luckily Murph’s foster recognized the signs (abdominal discomfort, tight and distended belly) and acted fast to get Murph to the hospital. He’s made it through surgery, but he’s not out of the woods yet. We need donations to pay for Murph’s surgery and prayers that he does well overnight and makes a full recovery. Shares of this post also help us reach more people to help Murph. Thank you for anything you can do! You can donate with Paypal or Credit Card on our site https://www.doodledandyrescue.org/donate
