Peggy The Service Dog This is the easiest and best way for everyone to keep up with the Continuing Adventures of Peggy the Service Dog. Thank you 3 Hearts 4 Paws Rescue for her!

Semiannual Vet Bisits are complete! Peggy is in excellent health for approaching ten. Her teeth are gorgeous and don’t need a cleaning. Two suspicious lumps were aspirated, results will be in by Monday at the latest.

Peggy is 58 lbs and should be slower to 48 lbs so we’ll get back into an exercise groove next week once she recovers from her shots.

Cap is 48 lbs and a lean, muscled, excellent example of a working BC. He’s very handsome and allowed all the testing and blood draws without too many complaints.

We go back in 3 weeks for Lyme and Lepro boosters. Then we don’t have to go back for 6 months, until their next wellness check!

The practice we went to is a “fear free” practice and allowed both dogs to opt out of things they didn’t like. Cookies and attention were applied and then they tried again to great success.

So, we have two happy and healthy dogs! Just what I love to hear. Once the results come back from the aspiration test we can celebrate Peggy entering the double digits club and the NO RULES era. 😂 Not that she’s in a different era to begin with, it’ll just be official!

Happy Gotcha Day, Peggy The Service Dog!!

Eight years ago this amazing chaos demon came into our lives, upended River’s orderly existance and made all of our lives so much better for it.

Love that wild and crazy puppy that settled into a polite and respectable member of society. My partner in shenanigans, my best friend, service dog and so much more.

Hope we have many more years of celebrating the Gotcha Day. Special cooked puppy dinner tonight to celebrate!

Peggy started the holiday weekend early with a dip in the baby pool. Either she’s learning to enjoy water or she’s hiding from Cap the Service Dog In Training.

Either way, she was enjoying it!

Peggy was in the room where it happened! Hamilton (Broadway) was incredible.

Peggy was a bit soggy but wore her mutt muffs as theaters can get very loud. She slept through the whole show, waking at intermission for some love and attention from her fellow the water goers.

She gave out a lot of kisses and accepted her due of being “the prettiest Peggy” of all. Our neighbors were a lovely pair of Aussies who needed some occasional translation from American to Australian. It was sweet.

And as they should, they adored Peggy. She returned the favor. ❤️

A very soggy (and pretty!) Peggy on our way to see Hamilton in NYC!

She has plenty of treats and I packed a small chamois to help dry her off. Poor baby. ❤️🐾

We’re seeing SIX today on Broadway. Just a mom n Pegs day. She’s so happy! Trotted through NYC like she owns it, tail high and face relaxed and happy.

Now she’s wearing her Mutt Muffs and settled next to me for the show, enjoying a polite snooze. What a good girl!

Curtain up at 3pm! ❤️🐾

Peggy and Cap the Service Dog In Training are really starting to get along! Play is really important and helps them bond. I’m so proud of how well she’s taken to the Invasion of The Border Collie!

They snuggle together in the bed, they’re starting to play together outside. There’s only been two or three times where Pegs told Cap to back off. The progress is fantastic. Another week or so and it’ll seem like Cap’s always been here.

Of course, she still gets to go upstairs with Andy at night while Cap stays with me. That gives her a much needed break from the puppy and gives her plenty of one on one attention. So far, so great.

Pretty Peggy posing with the posies on a gorgeous Spring day! No dogs allowed at the park - Service Dogs are exempt, of course!

Now we’re off for an afternoon on the Boardwalk where we’ll try to win more stuffies for Pegs to gleefully rip apart in the yard. 💛

Well, I guess it’s time to make the announcement!

I’d like to introduce my little brother, Cap, also called Stevie. He’ll be joining us on April 18th when we go get him from his home in VA.

Cap is a purebred Border Collie, bred by Dr. Karen Thompson of Thompson Border Collies! He’s going to take my place when I retire in a couple years. He’s already pretty smart. I can’t wait to meet him.

Once I retire I’ll become my Dadoo’s full time companion and partner in crime. We’ll go kayaking and for long walks, some bike rides and even swimming. He’ll spoil me even more than I am already and I can’t wait.

Welcome, Cap! And you can keep up with his training and progress like you keep up with me!

He’s on Facebook as Cap the Service Dog.

Peggy has been an incredible, amazing dog through the last three weeks. Not only has this vacation been her very first away from home overnight trip ever, it’s been her first trip to multiple theme parks, her longest time in the car ever, her first hotel stay and so, so many other firsts.

I’d be remiss if I did not thank her rescue, 3 Hearts 4 Paws Animal Rescue, a NJ Non-Profit Organization, for letting me adopt her almost 8 years ago.

On our very last day in the theme parks, we got a pet caricature done and I think they captured her sass, her humor and her joy *perfectly* as well as her Minnie harness and ears! I love this so much and it’s just the cherry on top of a perfect vacation sundae!

Peggy and I spent several hours at Adventure Aquarium in Camden, NJ on Friday. More videos are nested in the comments since they couldn’t all post at once, unlike on a personal FB page.

It’s incredibly enriching for Peggy to go to places like zoos and aquariums. Not only is she working for me at these times but she gets to see new sights, smell new scents and experience the much broader world. She had an absolute blast!

Penny the Hippo was fascinated by Peggy and kept bouncing by to see her. The video of poor Penny bumping into the glass was her trying to get a better look.

The sea turtle swam over and spent about thirty seconds looking at Peggy and she returned the favor.

The rays *fascinated* her and she had a great time staring at them.

The penguins and Peggy shared a mutual interest and one little dude kept coming over to check her out.

The docent who lectured about the animals took some time out of her day to chat with us and thanked me for bringing Peggy. We spoke about enrichment, how important it was and how Peggy didn’t just get some, she provided a large amount to the animals as well.

All in all a great day and we can’t wait to go back!

Peggy had a great time visiting Jenkinson's Aquarium last week! She was fascinated by the big fish and watched the penguins swim with rapt attention.

The penguins were as fascinated by her as she was by them! The handlers said her visit was incredibly enriching for the birds as they rarely see dogs. It was just an enriching for Peggy! She had a great time looking at everything.

I even had the chance to speak with one of the longtime seal handlers and discuss clicker training, swap funny stories and talk about some new advancements in the field!

A tired Peggy is a happy, well behaved Peggy and boy, did she sleep well that night!

Peggy looks too pretty against the bright background of flowers. Such a wonderful girl on a beautiful spring day!
