***Missing the Puppies?***
The Christmas Cookies were offline tonight so we thought we might share a vid from Sunday. Almost all the puppies are receiving supplemental feedings to ease the burden of feeding 11 puppies on their tiny mama, Misty.
As of today at 2 weeks and 2 days, all 11 are thriving and ALL are over 2lbs, doubling their birth weight. More eyes have opened.
On Sunday their little nails were trimmed - puppies get this weird little tip that can scratch mama so we had to tip those. Those that needed it got a quick wipe down since mama is exhausted cleaning 11 kids!
Exciting times are coming - on Saturday they will be introduced to puppy gruel as we begin the weaning process. Mom will help by cleaning them up after their meals and they will be allowed to wash it down at the milk bar but for more and more limited time as we help Misty start to dry up her milk.
These guys are beasts when they nurse and we don't know who is going to be more relieved when it's over, us or mama Misty!

***Intake Alert - Welcome Alex!***
This handsome boy made it to us on Sunday just in time to spend Christmas with us at the rescue and not in a pound. Alex's owner had to go to a facility and he had nowhere to go and no one who could take him.
He is 7 years old and a well-loved housedog.
He'll see the vet the day after Christmas and get updated on his shots. Luckily he's already neutered!
Then off to a placement foster and heading to a Forever home in the New Year!

Yesterday we introduced you to a senior we rescued on Friday (Daisy Dear @12 years) and a guy in his prime, Murphy (@5 years). Now here is the baby we rescued the same day.
This is May. Her 6 littermates joined us 2 months ago (March, April, June, July, August, October) and now here she is!
We are NOT accepting apps for her yet (watch her status on Petfinder).
May needs to see the vet, and learn important house stuff. We're guessing she could be ready in mid-January.

So Friday we received a very sad pic of a @12 year old yellow Lab turned in for euthanasia or rescue. The caring staff contacted us and in a matter of hours, we had two legs filled by LabUbers to get her to our brand new foster who signed up just to help her!
Rescuers hate this time of year, out with the old to make room for that new puppy. Then in a few months that very active, untrained, unsocialized puppy needs rescue. It's a never ending cycle of the absurd...
We are happy we could help at least one soul caught in this trap.

***Intake Alert - Welcome Murphy!***
Well did we ever have a Friday yesterday! 3 came in, a pup, this guy in the prime of his life and a senior (more on the first and last later.)
Murphy is @5 years old and might be a yellow Lab mix. He is big and sweet and gentle.
We were so happy we could help one of our rural rescue partners, Perry County OH by taking in this handsome boy.
He needs intake vetting, a neuter (of course!) and a placement foster all of which is being worked on.

We couldn't let another day go by without introducing you to this sweet girl who left the mill life behind to join the real world on 12/12.
Unfortunately a few days after arrival, she spiked a high temp and even after the vet and 2 days of antibiotics, she ended up in the ER Wednesday nite - we were so worried she had pyo...as it appeared she'd had puppies not too long ago.
She was released today and we think she had a touch of pneumonia. Her temp is almost normal, she's on 2 antibiotics and her appetite is good!
We're so glad she is with was - we don't even want to think about what the outcome might have been in a chilly barn or outbuilding somewhere...
***There's Nothing Better Than These Sounds..."
After a dicey first few days, Mama Misty is feeling much better, her fever is gone (after a uterine flush and heavy antibiotics at the ER!) and the pups are now being supplemented to help her.
Her milk is increasing and the pups are starting to put on more ounces which they need!
A HUGE THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS DONATED to cover unexpected costs, along with the normal support that is needed for a litter, especially one this LARGE!

It's been a weekend for sure!
Misty gained 16 pounds in the 3 weeks she was with us. Many thanks to her initial foster and her whelping fosters for making sure her every craving was satisfied!
And she sure needed the food!
