Our Story
Guppy Puppies is a family-run breeding program based out of Buford, GA. with an emphasis on providing healthy, gentle, lovable companions of the furry persuasion. Patty and Jeff Baxter are dedicated to careful attention to best practices in regards to genetics, pre- and post-natal environment, stimulation, and socialization to ensure happy, healthy pups and dogs. All dogs in their breeding program have passed extensive orthopedic and/or genetic testing to reduce the chance of heartache and discomfort down the road for both the dogs and their owners. Families are vetted to be sure the puppies are placed in appropriate, loving homes and the Baxters encourage the families to keep in touch and share photos and updates (which are often posted on FB with the families’ permission), as well as questions or concerns as they arise.
Why "Guppy Puppies"? The Baxters are water lovers, and so are their dogs! They've always owned dog breeds that traditionally love water and they've taken their dogs on boats, in rivers, lakes, ponds, and pools, and the dogs always loved the water. They even have a dog that regularly rode their jet ski in his younger years! Although they can't guarantee your new puppy will be a water lover, there's a good chance he/she will be if introduced early with calm affirmation and positive reinforcement. Guppy Puppies seemed a fun fitting tribute to their water lovers.
Guppy Puppies specializes in Golden Retrievers, Goldendoodles, and Sheepadoodles. Because they work out of their home and their dogs live with them and/or loving local families, they produce only a small number of litters each year. Usually there is a waiting list before the pups are conceived and most new families are referred by happy Guppy Puppy parents. Patty keeps a list of potential parents who want pregnancy updates and she’ll be happy to add you to the list . . . just reach out to her. Maybe you’ll be cuddling a Guppy Puppy soon!
