Drewbert the Corgi

New Year, new house, new member of the family. Long time, no see! We hope everyone is safe, healthy, and had a wonderful holiday break and Happy New Year! It’s been a hot minute since we last posted (ok it feels like it’s been YEARS). Drewbert and Mona are both doing well! We’ve been absolutely swamped with a bunch of pretty big life milestones lately, so didn’t have the time or mental bandwidth to stop by too much. A few updates in case anyone’s curious: 1. We moved! We bought the pups a new house with a fenced in yard for them to frap to their heart’s content. The universe has conspired to rain the entire time since we’ve moved in though, so today was the first time they got to play in the backyard - in the snow! 2. We had a baby! Like, an actual human one. In fact, we had her at the beginning of last year, so she’s almost one now! She’s also doing well, very cute, VERY sassy, and is best friends with Mona, to my everlasting surprise. Hope everyone is doing well and staying healthy and safe. We’re hanging in there with a lot of Animal Crossing and chilling with the pups! Here they are falling asleep during their weekly pedicure sessions. 😂 My hair may be a hot mess, but the pups are always looking great! (Drewbert’s clip was muted because we started watching tv and the volume was loud and annoying, haha. Sorry!)

We closed out 2019 on a high note by meeting up with Marcel Le Corgi during his US travels! It was really great to see Mona and Marcel playing together (leashes were required as this was not a dog park). Can confirm that he’s as much of a flirt in person! Also as an aside, people often ask us whether Mona is a Fluffy. “Fluffy” in this instance is an official term per the breed standard that describes a corgi coat ‘fault’ (their words, not mine) that describes “a coat of extreme length with exaggerated feathering on ears, chest, legs and feet, underpants and hindquarters.” This video provides a great comparison of a GORGEOUS fluffy (Marcel) versus Mona and Drewbert. 🔈 SOUND ON! The drama queen’s full voice is on display this morning. We started packing for a hike but aren’t planning to leave just yet. Both dogs are nagging us to go already! Mona was a tiny ball of destruction as a puppy and we were all just living in her world for those first few months. Here’s a video of her furiously dragging Drewbert’s bed off to god knows where. Drewbert, with all the patience in the world, just strolled in to save his poor bed by standing on it. She gave up once she realized the bed magically became too heavy to steal. #Drewbert #Savebert #ItsMonaTime #ToDrag

We took Mona to her first CAT (Coursing Ability Test) today! Lure coursing is a great activity for dogs with good drive and chase instinct. Mona did really well and passed/qualified! We didn’t bring Drewbert because he’s already tried lure coursing before and didn’t care for it. He didn’t chase the lure at all and instead hammed it up at the people watching instead. Every dog has different personalities and interests, and figuring out what activities bring joy to your dogs is one of the most fun parts of being a dog owner! #ItsMonaTime #ToChase

Yesterday, for the very first time, we got to see the first actual image captured of a black hole that is 52 million light years away (that’s 500 million trillion kilometers!). Instead of trying to take a blurry slo-mo of a corgi butt from a meter away, imagine the equivalent of placing said corgi butt on the moon and deciding you want to distinguish it from all the rocks/craters/debris with your NAKED EYE. We would need a telescope the size of the entire planet to be able to capture that. Some very smart people worked together to link radio telescopes across the planet, calibrated each one’s data, used innovative algorithms, and used the rotation of our own planet to form the equivalent of an Earth-sized telescope. Happy #NationalSiblingDay to all the sassy little siblings that only wants what the older one has! Mona’s life motto always has been “I see it, I want it, I like it, I got it”.
