The Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), with assistance from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the 5th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, is investigating the death of Paul Peavey, DOB 3/10/67. Mr. Peavey had last been heard from on the night of August 19 and was reported missing the evening of Wednesday, August 21. Just before noon on Saturday, August 24, a privately organized search party discovered the body of an adult male. Later that day, the Coroner’s Officer confirmed the identity of the decedent to be Mr. Peavey. The Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of Mr. Peavey’s death.

Mr. Peavey was a breeder of Doberman dogs. It was reported that many Doberman puppies were missing from Mr. Peavey’s property. The puppies’ whereabouts are part of the ongoing investigation. In addition, investigators have not yet determined a motive for Mr. Peavey’s death. The Sheriff’s Office is sharing this information to help dispel some rumors related to the investigation, and specifically to the areas of the investigation mentioned here.

The investigation is in its very early stages. Additional information that does not compromise the investigation or future court proceedings will be released as it is confirmed. Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office non-emergency number at 303-679-2393, or submit a tip via email at [email protected] or via the CCSO website at https://bit.ly/CCSOCrimeTips.

We lost our sweet Axel today. He was diagnosed with HCM at a year old which promptly ended his breeding career. Axel never showed any physical symptoms of his heart ailment and was an active, happy boy walking on his cat wheel every day. We kept him as a beloved pet and are incredibly lucky to have spent the last nine years with him. He passed away peacefully in his sleep. Until we meet again sweet boy... 🌈💔

Edited to add: A perfect example of why breeders should get their breeding cats scanned yearly. We would have never known he had HCM and continued to use him for breeding, possibly producing generations of cats with heart problems.

Not my story, but I have been there. 😔

Long post. Worth the read. The dark side of raising, breeding and loving Maine C**n kittens. It's taken me awhile to share this but I feel it's important for people to see. Whether you're a family searching for a kitten, a seasoned breeder or thinking about becoming a breeder. This is real. This happened to me. I thought I had an edge as a Nurse of 25 years and I could handle any emergency with newborn babies. Boy was I wrong. I did everything right. I did all of the testing on my cats, fed them the best food, cared for them 24/7, had a full kitten birthing kit ready to go. I was there for the births. I assisted the Mamas with removing the amniotic sacs, cutting little cords and keeping babies warm. I didn't sleep for days. If a baby didn't gain weight, I stayed up ALL night syringe feeding the tiny little 2 ounce kitten every hour so that he had a chance. The baby slept next to my bed in a bassinet of sorts with a kitten heating pad. I was the surrogate Mama and man was it exhausting. It wasn't enough. Feeling helpless and watching a kitten fade is gut wrenching. Taking the baby to urgent care begging for help only to pay $700 and leave without the kitten because he stopped breathing at the clinic. Waking up the next morning to another kitten fading out of no where and pledging to save this one. Wrapping that tiny baby up and flying to the closest hospital while doing CPR in your car while your husband drives. Watching the baby take its last breath before you get to the hospital. Wearing big sunglasses because you don't want your husband to see the tears streaming down your face. Your next Queen gives birth and 2 are stillborn with no chance. You perform CPR anyway because, hell I'm gonna try. They never took a breath. Having the Mama cat come to you and lay her sweet head next to her dead baby that I'm performing CPR on. She knew. My God was it awful to witness. Picture included. So in memory of all of these sweet, perfect babies that blessed my life for even a short time, I want to honor their tiny lives. Some lived for a few days, some only a few hours. I loved them all. I went through the pregnancy, seeing them on the ultrasound, watching them take their first breath(the lucky ones) and frantically checking on them every hour. They were like my babies too. Breeding is NOT easy. It's freaking HARD. The stress, the sleepless nights, the toll it has on your body, your mind, the financial aspect....it's all hard. Why do we do it? Who knows. We love these animals. We are nurturers at heart. We miss our kids who are now grown. So many reasons. So please, be kind to people who choose to raise these cats. Don't talk to me about kittens being too expensive, support fellow breeders and do your research and proper testing BEFORE you decide to mate two cats. The amount I spent in urgent care visits to try to save this failing litter was more than I charge for the kittens. I lost them, so I made nothing and lost everything. We don't do this for money. We don't make money. We spend so much more than you could imagine. Be kind to us. Be kind to each other. I miss these tiny babies every day and honestly wanted to quit after I went through all of this. I'm not a cryer. I'm a tough chic. I cried for these babies more than I can explain. This was tough. This is tough. I'm blessed that we saved one baby. I'm blessed that 4 more survived in a different litter. We have to take the small miracles and be thankful for them. Not all Queens are meant to be Mamas. Not all babies live. You have to make hard decisions and do what's best for your cats. That's the bottom line. Thank you for caring enough to read till the end. Feel free to share if it can help someone else get through what I went through 3 weeks ago. 🩵

Today is the birthday of the very first Cornish rex as Kallibunker was born 21st of July 1950. Short Breed HISTORY:
Cornish Rex cats originated in Cornwall, England, where one first appeared in a litter of barn cats in 1950. A cream-colored male, named Kallibunker, was covered in tight rows of tiny curls, giving him the appearance of a miniature lamb. As he grew, his differences from his litter-mates became more dramatic: a slender, fine-boned body standing on long legs, a narrow head, enormous “bat ears,” and a long, whippy tail. Kallibunker was a genuine mutation and was bred back to his mother to produce curly kittens. The curly coated cats were bred with Burmese, Siamese, and British domestic short hair cats, resulting in a broad genetic base for the Cornish Rex breed and the knowledge that the gene was recessive.
