Phoebe & Willow, our super lovable, deaf Great Danes, both are rescues and both have become awesome therapy pets�
Had to share this sweet memory that popped up yesterday, it was from 10 years ago, when we took Phoebe to visit our friend Patti’s husband, in a nursing home.
I don’t think there’s a single day that goes by that I don’t think about her, especially since a phoebe bird visits our porch every day to sing to me.🥰
To Phoebe’s loyal and dedicated followers, I will be closing down her page within the next month.
As you know, we lost our beloved Phoebe last summer, and somehow it just seems wrong posting about our other dogs on a page dedicated to her.

Willow accompanied momma to work today as she has an appointment at the vet this afternoon, for yet another UTI. 😕
I feel very blessed that for the past 20 years I’ve had a job that allowed me to bring my fur babies to work &/or leave early for their vet appointments.
Willow looks so much like Phoebe in this picture, made my heart skip a beat.

Momma stuck these silly things on our heads, made Willow and I look like a couple of jackasses with those big ears.

is settling in to her new surroundings. Hopefully by this time next week the yard will be fenced in and the dogs will be able to really stretch their legs and burn off some energy.
I put the cone of shame on Willow but darned if she can’t still lick her toes. Plus she is so restless with the cone on, I gave up on it, we’re using a sock on her right now, at least she’s leaving it on.
As for her UTI, she’s starting on some antibiotics this morning, although the vet said she may change them next week, and could possibly have to be on them for several weeks. She’s still trying to figure out just what is causing them to recur over and over.
Being sick has it’s advantages, gets to come to work with me so I can take her straight to the vet and I can keep an eye on her. Fingers crossed they can figure out why she keeps getting these UTIs.
Sorry (not sorry), doing a bit of a photo-dump today in what would have been Phoebe’s 12th birthday.
It was just a little over 2 months ago we had to say goodbye to our sweet girl.
I hate that she won’t get to live at the farm with us, but at least she got to visit a few times.
It is with much sadness that we tell everyone that loved Phoebe as much as we did, that she has passed on.
I’ll post a proper tribute to my sweet ol’girl in a few days. 😞

Somebody was feeling like a Miss Sassypants last night.
Phoebe was giving me her 2-cents worth because I had the audacity to eat broccoli in front of her, and that’s her favorite treat.

Ol’ girl still has her moments when she feels spry. Maybe not as spry as big-mouth Willow, but feeling’ good enough to sound off at strangers walking down the sidewalk and a wag of the tail just so they know she’s only having fun.
It’s often hard to know when it’s the right time to make “that decision”.
We’ve unfortunately had to make the decision numerous times over the years, and while it never gets any easier to do, it’s usually gets easier to tell when the time is right.
Our dogs tend to tell us when they are ready, and hopefully we’re listening to them and not prolonging their suffering for selfish reasons because we’re not ready to let go.
I’ve only 2nd guessed myself one time, and that was one time too many.
Last evening when we arrived home, Phoebe was unable to stand up, even with my assistance. Her hind legs couldn’t support her and her front legs kept folding underneath her. It was all I could do to get her outside, she was never able to stand. Poor girl defecated while lying on the ground. I got her cleaned up as best as I could and came to the decision it was time. The vet’s office was already closed, so with John & me carrying her, we got her back inside and settled on her cushion, where I brought her dinner and held the bowl while she ate and drank. I planned on calling the vet first thing this morning.
When my alarm went off this morning, I got all the other dogs out and taken care of then put in their crates so they’d be out of the way, and I decided to try and take her out to the front yard, I felt I could manage her on my own if I didn’t have the steps to the deck to contend with.
But with a little assistance standing, she was able to stand and walk to the back door and onto the deck on her own steam.
I helped her down the steps and she walked around the yard unassisted, and only needed minimal help getting back up the deck. I fixed her breakfast and she was able to stand and eat on her own.
Even though she’s been deaf all her life and couldn’t hear what I said, I guess she was “listening” to me when I told John it was time, and she made it a point of telling me this morning that she’s not ready.
I don’t know what I’ll find when I get home this evening, we’ll take each day as it comes, but I’m going to trust HER to tell ME when SHE is ready.
Phoebe is loving these pleasant temperatures. She likes to stand on the hill, under the cedar tree and wait for people (especially people walking dogs) to pass by so she can woo-woo-woo at them❣️
Phoebe and Puppet have been carrying on lately, Feebs was “talking to her yesterday, not sure if she was upset with Puppet or just “conversing”. I’m not sure what Puppet was doing walking on her, maybe just checking to make sure she was okay🤔😂.

Brisco, Willow, and our sweet ol’ girl, Phoebe. Every day that she’s still with us is a gift.
A year ago, I didn’t think we’d have her even another 6 months, but she proved me wrong. As I see her getting weaker and weaker, I keep thinking “any day now”, and still she keeps surprising me.
She struggles to stand and navigate the 2 steps on the deck, we frequently have to help her & I consider it an honor, but she’s still very alert and anxious to voice her opinion at anyone walking past the house with their dog, and her appetite is still great. So I hope she continues to surprise me for many months to come❣️
When there is food involved, especially her favorite, BROCCOLI, gets to her feet in a hurry and knows no shame, she’ll beg for broccoli all day long!
Well it’s not the red carpet, but Stacy was kind enough to get Phoebe a velvet blanket to lay on while we waited❣️. It’s rough for an old girl to stand for too long.
We hadn’t done a group photo in a while, I don’t think since we’ve lost Beezly, and since my cheese-puffs seemed to have them all so captivated, I had to take advantage of the situation 😹

Phoebe needed a helping hand from Santa to get to her feet.
Phoebe has her long lost “Tumor”, and she couldn’t be happier❣️. She actually wagged her tail when I handed it to her.
She won’t even let us have it now, she’s not giving it up. I’ve laughed at her so much over the past half hour.
While we are sad over the loss of our Beezly yesterday, today we celebrate and rejoice that Phoebe turned 11 years old today.
The 1st pic showed up on timehop this morning, the 2nd one I took a few days ago, almost exactly 5 years apart.
Both have changed so much, and yet are still very much the same. 💕

Phoebe even seemed to enjoy the snow a little bit, I didn’t catch it on video, but she played with Puppet for a moment.
Sometimes in life we need help, other times we just need some encouragement. (#Phoebe put herself in the crate because all the other big kids were hogging up the floor cushions, Puppet bumped the door shut chasing her ball, she wasn’t locked in.)

Phoebe isn’t quite willing to snuggle up to the new family member yet, but Willow seems to love Puppet.
Every once in a while I can get all of them to cooperate and sit pretty. Make it a Great Dane, uh, I mean great day!!
