Some times people look at us funny when we tell them that some pigs like music. They feel joy just like us, they also suffer depression when abandoned. You can see that his tail wags when the music is playing and stops when the music stops. He’s a happy boy.

Well pets n pals in the albany mall is at it again. Selling underage piglets, not even 4 weeks old, born August 30th. Piglets NEED to stay with the mother for at least 8 weeks for health and behavioral reasons. I approached this differently this time. Before I get into this I would like to say the store manager, didn’t get her name, young red headed girl, was very open to learning about them. As she told me “I’m only passing along info about them from what I’m told” so she is at no fault in the predictable demise of these piglets. She told me they sold the runt yesterday so hopefully it makes it. This is a horrible pet store! I get info passed on to me about them that is horrible. They are selling a pet that when born has a 90%+ chance of being rehomed. Almost always before reaching a year of age.

Careless greeders!

🆘🆘🆘 NOW! What I need is help from all of you, please share this post or at least the photos and what they are doing. Share share share and tag them, write on their page. For the local people of albany and surrounding area‼️ there’s something in this for you. The person that tags the most people that live in albany in a shared post (with Pets n Pals tagged), I’ll give you $50.00. The person who has the most shares from people who live in albany, I’ll give $50.00. If you are the most for both you get $100.00. Pets n Pals must be tagged. It’s cheaper to do this and stop the over breeding than it is to take one pig in, which costs hundreds more! And I can promise, out of the 42 we have, I know at least one come from a pet store. Possibly even this store. What’s more important tho is the health of these pigs. These breeders are not educating their employees or buyers, they are just making a dollar. Thank you!!!

Finally starting on one of the bigger houses. This is the only one we have that was a donation, and very thankful for it. It’s getting a new metal roof and will end up with two awnings on each side to help beat the summer heat. It’s gonna be a gem.

Stormy update, she’s two weeks and a day. Starting to get spunky, moms feeling refreshed also. Both were playing around yesterday. She’s becoming more sociable. This is a new experience for us so it’s exciting to see. We usually take in the older pigs which are just as amazing.

Where do I begin with this story? Well I guess 5 weeks ago when we picked up Loretta Lynn Forest. She was living in the woods by a very busy road. A few weeks before that Shanna Rainey contacted me about her and was very concerned for her safety. People were coming by to feed her every day but they couldn’t prevent something from happening to her. We all got together that Sunday with Nanci Rumfelt Kendall and Pamela Brown (the wonderful ladies responsible for saving Loretta) and managed to capture her. We got Loretta here, settled in and she picked herself out a spot in the corner of the pen. All was well until last Tuesday when I noticed her belly had grown tremendously over the weekend. I’ll go ahead and say it, Sherri was right! Loretta was pregnant. Well this was a first. I’m not gonna lie, it was a stressful week. Because I needed to get ready for some babies to be born. NOPE, she had them the next day. Two days after that a tropical storm followed by cold weather. Yea it was an experience for sure. She had 3 babies that afternoon. I’ll skip the details because it was emotionally rough but we lost two of them. Not to mention the spot she picked was probably the worse in the pen. With the cold weather on the way we got a house moved into place for her and Stormy. They are both living in a safe pen now with a fully insulated house that stays around 78 degrees in this freezing weather. Once Stormy is big enough they will move right into a much larger pen and she will be staying here.

Today was a beautiful day. It was a day that we knew had been coming for some time, and yet it was a day that we could never truly be ready for.

The sun was shining as Blue laid on the bank of his favorite pond, surrounded by people who loved him. Blue fell asleep with his head in my lap. Abbey held his hoof and Joseph rubbed his back as we helped Blue transition out of his broken body.

Blue spent his last earthly morning being told how loved he was by all of his favorite people. He had his favorite treats handfed to him and had a final swim in his favorite secret spot.

We told him how proud we were of him and how he will always be remembered. We told him he was important and that his life mattered. We told him how we will never look out at the pond without thinking of him or missing him.

We held Blue and spoke softly to him in his final moments, as our own hearts were breaking. We covered him in kisses and tears as he took his last breath.

That is what Blue deserved, what they all deserve.

Grief is for those left behind and we are honored to be so profoundly sad. Great loss only comes from great love, and Blue, you were one of the greatest loves of all.

Blue, my darling, you did it. You made it.
You are finally whole again. 💙

Update: he’s doing great! Poor fella had 3 rotten teeth that had to be pulled. Just a little back story. When we took him in a few years ago he was already grown. He was 6 years old and weighed 36 lbs. The young lady who had him was told by the breeder to feed him a diet that kept him malnourished, very unethical. It took about 6-8 months to safely get him to about 80 lbs which is a healthy size for him. He’s maintained that weight now for years. Most likely his problems with teeth and a tusk that had to be removed, stem from his many years (all the way thru his growth period) of being basically starved. He’s been a trooper today showing very little signs of pain thanks to his meloxicam. He is currently snoring like a lumberjack. A big thank you to Philema Animal Hospital and their wonderglful vets and staff.

Prayers for our Wrigley are appreciated this morning. He’s had some swelling in his face and it just won’t go away. He’s had this before which just seemed to be irritation. He’s had a tusk removed on the same side as the swelling so I always keep an eye on him. We always worry about unforeseen complications and the fact that we lost Popo weeks ago doesn’t make it any less worrisome. Sherri L Boley

Can’t wait to go visit Shelby and her wonderful mom when they get home. She lives right down the road from us. She was very blessed to be found by such a caring lady and just from the videos she sends me every day she seems to be settling in great. Let’s help her out.

The day has finally come. After years of work we were finally able to move the first pig from the old pen, to the new. The joy is unbearable! Popo was in one of the smallest pens but now his pen has more room than he will ever need. Hopefully by the end of the day Woody will be joining him next door.

It’s a slow go but we are getting there. This will be Popo and Woody’s house, my two old guys. I can’t wait to get those two moved! This house also contains the well tank and will be storage for tools and camera system. It’s insulated and will have a large heating pad and air conditioner. I may move in with them.

I had help doing the weekly fence check. I think they were more concerned if I had snacks, who cares if grizzly bears and panthers can get in.

We are trying to welcome our new girl Frieda to the gang. Lola and Peanut just aren’t having it tho, that’s how pigs are. Hopefully soon they will settle down and let her snuggle with them. We don’t normally take in young pigs because we focus on the older unwanted ones. This girl was local and running loose down a highway until she showed up in a fellow pig owners yard. Best estimate is she’s about a year old, the sad part is how the previous owner had her contained. She was first seen running down the highway with a leash attached, turns out she had a rope tied to her rear leg. Thankfully there was no damage to the leg. Humans can be really stupid and cruel. Assuming she was tied up she probably didn’t have a warm dry place to sleep. She does now.
