It will be as unique and individual as you are yourself. My beautiful little treasure bags are made by felting fine layers of wool such as Merino, Gotland and the fleece of Norwegian Spelsau sheep; Spelsau yarn once used to make the sails of Viking ships. The colour and texture of these wools reflect the elements and the natural world; to which I may add heather flowers, dried moss or hand dyed ya
rn. Each bag is then embellished in its own unique way. To some I add copper or pewter, either hand forged wire or individually worked repoussé. This work is inspired by the stunningly creative skills of the peoples who inhabited these lands in years gone by; the Picts, Celts, Vikings and Anglo Saxon peoples who left extraordinary works of art in stone, wood and metal. In honour of the animal world and the Ancestors, I add bone. Some bone beads are dyed and re-dyed, waxed or gilded, whatever conveys the spirit of the bag; others are left just as they are, to speak for themselves. One of the joys of making these little bags is sourcing beautiful beads that work in harmony with the other elements I use. I love re-cycled glass beads, quirky handmade clay beads and interesting metal. My paintings are also an eclectic mix; gesso and sand, string and paper, with layers of acrylic glazes to reflect the light. I use encaustic wax, handmade paper which I dye, print and stitch. Who knows what is going to happen when I begin a piece? My work space begins with some sense of order but gradually, as the process develops, a creative chaos builds and I just have to let go to and follow the muse...
Setting up my shop has been collaboration with my wonderful son, whose artistic talents and technical skills have made this a very special adventure. He designed the ‘Three White Ravens’ logo which I love, love, love! He also produced all the design work of the site and packaging. The packaging is very important to both of us and we want it to delightfully complement the special piece you choose. www.etsy.com/shop/ThreeWhiteRavens
