Witcher, aka XC’Cwynbleidd de Southernwind PSA1
These are my favorite pictures from last weekend at the JASD Heartbreaker trial. No dramatic catch or scary-looking K9…but these quiet, yet victorious, moments with my dog and the folks that have helped us along the way. I was still spooked between the last exercise and our critique; you can see it on my face. Dre Char is next to me complimenting my confidence and handling; invaluable praise to an otherwise fumbly bafoon. Its a moment long in the making yet still unbelievable. Witcher is not the strongest dog and I am not the most efficient trainer. But boy can we be tenacious.
We wouldn’t be (and wouldn’t want to be) here at all without Rachel Williams who had her own victory earning a PDC with Sicario the Original Comeback Canine. Talk about heart… this dog put ours through the ringer with his up and down journey through PSA. It has not been easy to keep the faith but these two marched through their first trial like they had nothing but. I’m so proud of you. You forgot the crowd, forgot the rain, forgot the nerves, and absolutely proved yourselves.
It would be creative to say that all you need is a little faith and a lot of tenacity, but that’s simply not true. It takes a lot of early mornings and hours in the car, bruises, blood, life savings…and a whole cult of supportive trainers, handlers, helpers, decoys and non-licensed therapists to get things done around here. To all of them, I thank you. Wouldn’t have it any other way.
