are usually very FEARful.

Three things to remember as you search for your :

1. They may not recognise you due to stress.
2. DO NOT CHASE. Speak calmly and try commands such as Stop, Sit, Stay, Drop.
3. Get down low, make yourself small and unthreatening. Refer to 2 above.

Fear is the easiest things to condition in dogs and the hardest to resolve. Fear can come from many places, many of which we don't control. This infographic is my most downloaded and shared resource. In fact, many vets and Veterinary Behaviorists use this handout with their own clients! Link in first comment to grab your own copy.

Today marks the beginning of International Assistance Dog Week. 2024’s theme: It Takes a Pack. 💙

Stay tuned this week for plenty of exciting events, announcements and of course doggie content.

Our theme aims to celebrate you, our wonderful ADA pack and encourage others to join. ADA wouldn’t be able to do what we do without our volunteers and supporters so thank you!

103 dogs are off the site with more to come next week.

We are working through the logistics of transporting, grooming, vet appointments and assessing foster carers.

So grateful for the support for all the support these gorgeous dogs have received.

This is a real community effort! ❤️

FIV sounds bad, but Marmalade's FIV+ and as you can see he's pawsome, it's not a big deal... Purrlease don't overlook FIV+ cats in shelters 🧡

Microchipping *IMPORTANT UPDATE*

All pets MUST be registered with council by 12 weeks of age. If the breeder still has the animal at 12 weeks of age, they are required to pay the registration fee.

Owners are only required to pay the standard Lifetime Registration Fee at this time. If your pet has not been desexed or had a delayed desexing recommendation noted on the Pet Registry by 6 months of age you will be charged the extra fee for an undesexed pet.
There are BRAND NEW forms for the pet registry system.

These can be downloaded from the website. https://www.petregistry.olg.nsw.gov.au/registration-and-permit-fees/forms

It is now mandatory for all litters to have Mum’s microchip number recorded on the permanent identification form.

All cats and dogs must be microchipped before being sold or given away, or by 12 weeks of age.

I once had a person say to me, "I don't know why anyone would come and pay $100 for a cat when I can go to my neighbors farm and he'll fill my car with them for free." Well, here's the full breakdown folks! (Not to mention sick visits)

For , we've put together a starter checklist for welcoming a new furry friend into your home!

Things to consider:
🐱 Check your home for any likely hiding places that your kitten could get stuck
🐱 Keep potential poisons such as anti-freeze safely stowed away
🐱 Make sure you have everything they need before their arrival

All pets deserve better. 💕

Why should you keep your cat safe and happy at home?

Reduces the risk of them getting sick or injured 🚑
Reduces the risk they will stray and become lost or impounded 👮
Minimises the risk of harming or killing wildlife 🦜
Prevents them from fighting or breeding with undesexed roaming cats 🐈
Helps to avoid cat related problems with neighbours 👦
Gives them a better chance to enjoy a longer, safer, life with you 🐱💙👩‍🦰

Attention NSW pet owners and breeders 🐾

The Companion Animals Registry has undergone essential upgrades to reflect the new fees and changes to registration.

All puppies and kittens must now be registered by 12 weeks of age to ensure they receive proper identification and care within our community.

Cats will require an annual permit if not desexed by four months of age, while dogs will incur a one-time additional fee if not desexed by six months of age.

Don't forget that late registrations will incur fines, so register your pet on time 🐾

🥺Shy July🥺 $31 adoptions😿

Shy, timid, reserved? There’s plenty of names to call these cats, but our favourite is ‘worthy’ worthy of a chance, a home and a life they deserve. These cats often blossom into beautiful companions once they find a person with patience to show them love and respect, they just need a bit more time to settle in.

A number of cats in the shelter are only 😿$31 to adopt and cats in foster are only $25 to adopt this July. 😿 Please give these cats a second chance.

Visit Cat Haven in July and meet our shy cats, they need a little more help to get adopted as they are overlooked by people for the cute kittens and more confident cats. Most cats don’t thrive in the shelter environment and tend to hide and regress when here in the shelter, for Shy July we will be featuring these cats on our social media for adoptions to help them find their furever home.

Adoptions are open weekly between 10am-5:45pm and 10am-4pm on weekends with no appointment needed.

Please bring a current form of ID with your residential address and your own carrier, if you have one or shop in our amazing retail store when you are here. All profits made in our store go directly back to the cats in our care.

We hope to see you this July. ❤️
