Chocolate Chip, my Mini Rex doe, is a great first-time mother. I noticed that two of the kits looked too light to be castors, but upon closer inspection, I was delighted to find that they are actually chinchilla! The remaining kits include a solid castor and three broken castors. Their sire is black (his sire is black and his dam is a broken black otter). I believe the chinchilla color snuck in through the black grandsire who was sired by a black silver marten. This is a breeding I will definitely repeat!

Kit update- Mini Rex doe Chocolate Chip had her first litter on April 10. She blessed us with six healthy kits. ❤️

Wasabi had 7 kits Thursday afternoon! 😍 Two broken, and 5 solid (blues, blacks, & otters). The sire is my blue buck Alaric. Very pleased with their first litter.
Update: The biggest of the kits is a blue otter. 🤞for a buck! The others include 2 blacks, 2 black otters, a broken black, and a broken blue. ❤️

Isn't Wasabi a pretty girl?

The rabbits are doing well. Time to breed a few does. :-)

Well, here is the temporary rabbit shelter. The heavier tarp is held up by a rope strung between two trees. We added extra supports to the roof pole, and a support pole in the middle. The mesh tarps allow airflow but deflect rain. My next step is to create some racks to get the cages off the ground.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers. It has meant a lot and helped me for the last few days. We managed to get the 2nd rabbit pen up and used some of the supports from the other one to help hold up the new & sturdier tarp. We are also in the process of creating a rope reinforcement to make sure it doesn't collapse again. This is a temporary shelter until we can get a barn built, but we're trying to make it as safe as possible.

Friends, I need some prayers. Last night we had such a hard downpour that it collapsed the top of the rabbit pen. So much rain collected on the tarp that it was too heavy. We managed to get the rabbits in the garage. Amazingly, all but one are okay. I'm pretty sure the chocolate otter doe broke her back. She's alive but can't move much. I don't know what to next.

Well, we've gotten moved and are now near Bluff Dale, TX. I have the rabbits in their temporary quarters & I'm working to get the rest of it finished so I can start breeding rabbits again. 😍🐇

I've figured out how to house my rabbits & where to put the facility at our new place. Once we've finally moved, I will share photos. Meanwhile, all the buns are doing fine, though neither they nor I are looking forward to the next couple of cold fronts!!

Lost my oldest Mini Rex doe overnight, most likely to cancer. Binky free little Skye. 🌈

Good info.

Good info.

This is a repost of a post that we had posted around a year ago but a local 4-H club asked me if I could post it again and share the information to them. So here it is, the 💩 post.

How well do you know 🐇 💩?

As I was cleaning the rabbitry today and dumping the manure in the potato 🥔 patch I thought that rabbit manure would be a good topic to talk about.

1- Fresh rabbit manure is approximately 2% Nitrogen, 1% Phosphorus, and 1% Potassium.

2- Here is how it stacks up in comparison to manure from other livestock.
Rabbit 🐇 = N- 2.4 P- 1.4 K- .80
Chicken 🐔 =N- 1.1 P-.80 K- .50
Sheep 🐑 =N- .70 P- .30 K-.60
Horse 🐎 =N- .70 P-.30 K- .60
Cattle 🐄 =N- .70 P-.30 K-.40

3. Those other manures are considered "hot" 🔥 manure and need to be composted before use, but rabbit manure is considered "cold" 🥶 and can go directly into use.

4. Rabbit manure is an organic matter then when worked into the soil will improve poor soil structure, drainage, as well as moisture retention 💧.

5. Worms 🪱 love rabbit manure, and the more worms in your garden and around your plants the better off your soil conditions will be.

6. It doesn't have the same aroma 🤢 as other fresh manures which if you live in town will make your neighbors happier. Plus as it's in round pellet 🟤 form it's easier to handle than other loose manures.

7. It contains beneficial trace elements such as Calcium, Magnesium, Boron, Zinc, Sulfur, and many others that all plants 🪴 need.

8. The extra Nitrogen in rabbit manure makes it a great kickstart 🦵 to get a new compost pile going.

9. It makes a great tea 🍵 to use to water plants with as well. Dump some manure in the bottom of a pail 🪣 add water 💧 and let it steep for a couple days. Pour the water off and use that to water 🚿 your plants.

10. Rabbits 🐇 are darn cute and easy to care for even in a small city 🏙 yard so you can have a year round source of fresh natural fertilizer.
