This sweet 10 month old pup, Luz, is looking for a good, friendly, peaceful home. Preferably one without other dogs. She was adopted as a rescue from Mexico. She's super sweet and gentle. Luz knows basic commands (come, sit, down), is good on a leash- and does her "business" outside. Luz is spayed and fully vaccinated. She weighs 45-50 lbs. (the only reason she is up for adoption is because the other dog in the home does not like her). If intersted please call Ruth at 831-419-1670.

While dogs are allowed in an ever-increasing number of human spaces — restaurants, offices, stores, hotels, as well as more parks with designated dog runs — their growing presence has not translated into greater independence. The confinement and isolation, in turn, have bred an increase in animal separation anxiety and aggression, Dr. Serpell said. Roughly 60 percent of cats and dogs are now overweight or obese. And due in part to the burden and expense of modern pet ownership — veterinary fees, pet sitters, boarding costs — more people are abandoning animals to animal shelters, leading to higher rates of euthanasia. In 2023, more than 359,000 dogs were euthanized at shelters, a five-year high.

Pet owners are treating their animal charges ever more like humans. But that isn’t good for pets, or for us, many experts argue.

What's on my mind? Lilly is on my mind because I received a FB memory. Ten years ago, I was staying with her for a couple of weeks. Her house was only a half mile up the road from my place. She was such a sweet dog, too. I love Standard Poodles!!

NEVER a dull moment as a pet sitter. Mochi (the kitten) SOMEHOW got out of the enclosed netted area on the second floor. She is very skittish, so I thought last night and this morning she was hiding...so I did not think much of it...but to still not show up for WET FOOD again? I looked in every closet, every corner and crevice I could find. I thought...let me check the netted area...I hear her! She somehow got out...I could not find where though. Then how to get her down...I went outside and found a ladder...but she would not jump on the ladder...even after bringing wet food outside! SO, I had to climb up and grab her...while she wriggled and writhed trying to get away from me...then down the ladder and running to the front door before she could jump out of my arms! WHEW! (actually it was pretty exciting). The first thing that Mochi did was use the litter box! THEN ate a whole (small) can of wet food. Lola seemed very affectionate with me after I brought Mochi in...very interesting. But Charlie just sat and stared at me. CATS.
